The Visit
Kaya's POV
My fingers trembled a little, making me form a fist to keep my cool as I stood in the shadow of the large gate that towered over both Ally and me like the gates of hell themselves. I could feel Ally visibly shiver beside me causing me to side-glance her way, just to make sure she was at least braver than the way I was feeling at the moment, "this-this is where he lives?” she stuttered, sounding very unconvinced.
My shaky fingers took out the piece of paper from my pocket rechecking the address, "yep,” I replied with mocking enthusiasm, “according to this, he does.”
I handed the paper over to her upon her wordless request, her eyes gazing over the address once more, then glancing at the house number curved majestically on a plaque by the stones wall, sighing as she crumbled it in her fists, glancing at me momentarily, “I have a bad feeling about this."
She didn’t have to tell me twice. This whole thing screamed this is a bad idea in capital letters but I don’t know what was happening to me with my sudden love of mystery or the sudden ache that started within me when I thought of turning back. We had already come all this way, it would be useless to turn back without even trying.
I breathed out lowly knowing I had to be the brave one in this instance. Giving her a careless shrug I hoped looked confident enough for her I approached the gate, hands wrapping around the metal bars, peering into the large courtyard, “ any idea of how we can open this?” I grunted but before I could say anything else the gates started to open. I stepped back surprised, joining Ally once more as they opened widely in front of us giving us a bar-free view into the most luxurious castle courtyard I had ever seen. It had a lot of hedges, all luscious green but none of them seemed to have been trimmed in a while. Because e of this, coupled with the medieval-styled mansion that looked a lot like a castle, it gave off a haunting yet bewitching feeling.
Ally and I exchanged looks at this.
"Alright," she mumbled sucking in her breath as we peered in, taking a few brave steps forward, "not creepy at all" she jeered.
I followed after her, the large mansion that stood before us, reeling us in.
It was nothing short of magnificent despite being haunting. I marveled at how elegant it looked yet old. Strangely I hadn't expected anything less. Legion always seemed like a rich bad boy, everything about him spoke grace and sophistication though there was something wild about him, something I couldn't quite identify or pinpoint.
"Lycan,” Ally suddenly yelped, freezing in her footsteps.
"What?” I asked, eyebrows furrowing, turning to Ally who had stopped petrified.
My eyes followed hers to the center of the courtyard where stood a huge life-like statue of a vicious bipedal type wolf. Or in other words, a Lycan.
My feet felt drawn to it and changed direction to the center but Ally stopped me giving me a worried but daring look, "don't you even try,” she gritted out, before glancing back at the statue, “ let's just find homeboy and get the hell out of here, this place is creepy,” she huffed, “and I’m not dying here.”
For a girl who had posters of Greek monsters in her bedroom, she looked unbelievably scared. We approached the firm large oak doors and I did what I would normally do at any other house. Rang the doorbell. Yes, the castle had a doorbell. The only thing lacking to have made it homely and more modern was a welcome home matt.
After a few quiet moments, and a debate to knock again, the door opened revealing a face that made me take two steps back, almost falling on Ally.
The man that stood before us filled the large doorway easily, his muscles bulging out of his shirt, an uneasy feeling dripping from around him. But what made him a lot fiercer was the three scars on his face, running from his left eye all the way down to his neck. Upon second look I took to account his mismatched eye colors from a haunting green to a dull brown.
His face suddenly broke out into a creepy grin, after ten seconds of studying us, Ally immediately entwining our fingers together, allowing me to feel the shake in them and the waves of uncertainty coming off her. I knew that the moment she tugged on them that was the signal to bolt the hell out of here. None of us were stupid enough to think this guy could be anything but bad.
"H-hello" I managed to stutter, though my feet were one tug away from sprinting.
His eyes rested on me seeming to suck me in from head to toe, licking his lips, and showing his yellow teeth, "Are you girls lost?” he asked, not at all in a can I help you kind of way. His eyes searched around us as if checking if we had come alone, “two princesses at a castle?”
I gulped shaking my head slowly, “n-no we were j-just looking for a- A friend" I eased, taking another step back when he turned slightly, looking back to where he had come from. When he looked back at us the grin had disappeared replaced with a stern look, his sharp teeth grazing his bottom lip, “there are no friends here, I assure you."
I glanced at Ally, who was giving me the look to just turn away and take our sorry buts home while we could but a wave of determination hit me, and I pleaded with my eyes to which she was displeased to see, but however gulped, “this is the address we're given,” she spoke for the first time.
His eyes trailed back to her, holding it in the scariest manner, "leave" he grunted firmly. Taking a step towards us, by pure instinct, we took two steps back, "leave or I'll make you, no one is allowed on these grounds, especially your kind,”
"Our kind?” Ally echoed, her eyes trailing back to the statue in the garden, then to the man before us.
His face seemed to darken as Ally's eyes widened in fear, then he released a strange noise... One I swear only wolves could make and one I heard with Legion. He growled.
Legion. Yes, this was all for him. With one last act of bravery I rambled, "Look, I'm s-sorry sir, we were only looking for a friend and we thought Legion lived here. We will get of your property,” I quickly said grabbing onto Ally.
His mismatched eyes widened as he backed up, "Who?"
Ally gripped on to me whispering that we should leave immediately but the man before me looked half as scary as before, "Legion, our friend,” I repeated, courageously letting go of Ally.
His jaw ticked, as he held his breath, glancing at the two of us, before suddenly turning and stomping back into the house leaving the door open.
My eyebrows furrowed as I watched the barge of a man disappear inside, turning slightly to Ally though my eyes were focused on the door, "Should we-?”
"No,” she immediately fired back shaking her head profusely, “Definitely not Kaya! You can’t just follow a random guy into a house!” she hissed, “especially one that looks like the spawn of the mafia! Please,” she dragged breathing lowly, “For the love of the heavens, let’s go home,” Ally begged.
I turned to her, though my thoughts were far off, blankly whispering, "not yet,” I said walking into the house, ignoring her hushed warnings. I soon found myself in a large hall, the floors covered in what seemed like a velvet carpet. I felt like I had stepped into some sort of castle that had been modernized as the chandeliers lined up the hallways in a majestic array.
I marveled at all this as Ally breathlessly rushed in beside me cursing under her breath and my stupidity in her words before she froze, eyes following all that was before us, "Whoa," Ally gasped as I felt her presence beside me, "this is...” she trailed off glancing at me,
"Unnatural" I finished for her as we both took in the sight.
I wondered who Legion's parents were and how much money they possibly had in order to afford this place. It's either they were into bitcoin or had shares in Tesla is all I could come up with at the moment.
"Kaya?"
I turned sharply round to see Legion standing beside someone I had just met yesterday, Caleb and another smartly dressed fellow I had never seen before it who strangely very attractive despite his age. Legion's eyes trained on me in the most surprised manner, chest heaving up and down as he met my eyes. I saw the man I didn’t know the name of slightly turning to face him, raising an eyebrow, while Legion uncomfortably adjusted.
There was an unnatural silence that enveloped the five of us at that point. All of us seemed shocked to see each other. I could tell Caleb didn't not like being surprised, but so did i.
Was Caleb Legions' father? He looked old enough but then again they looked nothing alike. Why did Legion look taller? Why was he wearing a suit that looked like it could buy all my daddy's restaurants and clubs. I mean he was a mere student but right now he looked like he runs a multi-billion dollar company.
Legion turned to the man beside him, “you may take your leave no Julius, I believe everything is in order.” He plainly stated. The man named Julius nodded, “ yes,” he replied, his eyes trailing to where Ally and I stood, a faint grin playing across his lip, “of course, I shall inform him everything is in order.” He then turned to us giving us a polite nod, “ladies,” he poshly stated with a shirt bow to which I knew nothing returning before walking away.
I watched him leave curiously, amazed at his level of politeness, he seemed much like Legion, old English and posh. My eyes trailed back to Legion, taken aback by his hungry eyes on me which cleared the moment they came into contact with mine. He pursed his lips into a thin line that almost looked like he was scowling.
From the way he and Caleb were looking at us, they seemed to both have questions but nevertheless slowly approached us, "h-hey" I said slowly feeling a slight blush, waving a little. Oh, this was a stupid idea.
I just remembered what had happened between us the last time we met. Now the only question running through my mind was, what the hell am I doing here?
Legion's eyes seemed to bore into mine, looking as if he was deciding if he liked that I was here or not. I removed my eyes from his doubtful face turning to Caleb, "I-I didn't know you two knew each other, are you- his father?” I asked in a doubtful tone.
"Uhmm, ye-"
"No-"
" a little, "
"Sort of"
They both spoke at the same time making it more awkward. My gaze traveled between them confused. Ally and I also exchanged looks.
"What we mean is,” legion began clearing his throat, “Caleb, is like a father to me, but he is not my father,” Legion finally said, glaring down at Caleb. A little too harshly for a father figure in my opinion.
I nodded, smacking my licks as I looked for a way to relieve the dry awkwardness that had eloped around us.
“Uh…wow, your house is hmm...magnificent" Ally began switching the tones. I was thankful for her at that moment.
“Yes. It-It is.” Legion replied still looking very much uncomfortable, his eyes trailing dully around the short space above us before his eyes suddenly strained on my face, "how did you two-"
"From school, we got your address from school,” I quickly replied. By the looks of his stern gaze on me, I was starting to think Legion was the type that prized personal space, and I may have just a tiny wee bit overstepped. But hey, my heart was in the right place, he had to see that right?
His eyes seemed to get harder, his scowl growing, glancing momentarily behind me, “Venice gave you my address?” his tone was harsh and misplaced.
"You mean our principle?" Ally asked, “Miss Venice?” she corrected, and probably surprised at the lack of respect Legion was showing at this moment.
"I meant what I said,” he countered gravely, his tone dark.
"She didn't,” I replied, “We actually did, It’s a long story,” I explained shaking my head, “ but you didn't come to school all week so we thought we would just check up on you," I hummed, eyes on him. It was his move and I prayed he would play the right piece.
Caleb whispered something in Legions ear, before turning to us, ”I have to leave, Kaya it was nice seeing you," he announced in a very formal way, "and you uhm-"
"Ally,”
"Ally,” he finished with a slight nod, eyes narrowing on her, before excusing himself with a polite grin.
My eyes shyly trailed back to Legion who seemed to be staring at me, his eyebrows furrowed.
My eyes fell from his gaze, reading right through the look he was giving me, "Y-you don't seem to be happy we came,” I admitted, pushing a strand of my hair behind my ear.
He glanced at Ally then back at me, “I didn't expect it, " he replied coldly.
I suddenly felt a wave of regret flooding through me. A dark shiver dancing across my spine, "i- I just wanted to see if you're alright,” I tried to explain, though my breath seemed to shorten with every word, “I was worried about-about you,” I trailed off wondering if my words revealed a deeper meaning.
"You clearly don't listen,” he suddenly grunted causing me to snap my eyes back at him. My eyes widened. What?
"You shouldn't have come." He finally said. He glanced once again behind me, "both of you, as you can see I'm fine.”
"Rude much?" Ally replied folding her hands, her tone was bitter and her eyes were narrowed down on him.
He didn't pay any attention to her, "this is no place for you," he continued in his grey tone, eyes strained on me.
"For "our kind" " Ally retorted, her bravery seemed to have resurfaced while I seemed to have been left speechless and dumbfounded at the same time. Had the tables truly changed? Had I misread him all this time? Was I the stalker here? He clearly hated that I had come here.
Legion studied Ally’s face calmly, "exactly."
Her eyes widened and so did mine at his answer, "You should leave,” he plainly ordered.
"What?" I breathed out feeling like I had been hit by a train, unable to understand what the hell was going on. My mind did a double-take.
"K-kaya let's go,” Ally grunted, grinding her teeth at Legion but I pulled my hand away from her, eyes focused on the little thief, "Wait, you're throwing us out?” I asked knowing I must have miss-heard. That ungrateful little thief.
He didn't reply, but still had that stone-cold expression on his face.
"Drop it, Kaya, obviously he isn't worth it,” Ally responded in his stead.
"You kiss me, skip a week and now you're throwing me out?!!” I asked my eyes widening, his eyes widened a little at that but remained stoic. My aunt’s craziness must have been passed down to me. What was I? Boy repellant?
His stone-cold gaze didn't change and I'm sure whatever he had of her heart was colder.
"You know what? Fine!” I replied feeling the waves boiling off me, I turned to grab Ally's arm with me as I stomped off
"Kaya?" Legion called his voice held no mercy
I paused gritting my teeth before turning to face him, one chance. This stupid thief had one chance- "Don’t come back here.”
I scoffed at this, eyes narrowing on him, “it will do you well to stay away from me, that's all you had to do from the beginning," I hissed, before stomping away with Ally.
"Jerk!" Ally called after as we stomped out of the house.
All I could see was red, I didn't even care that I almost bumped into Julius from before or Caleb who was just out front, I was actually surprised he hadn’t left yet. He called for me but I didn't turn back I kept walking, out the gate and into Ally's car.
"What an asshole," Ally commented.
"Just drive, please," I said my voice skipping.
She nodded as we sped off.Download Novelah App
