Chapter 37 - The Last Gap
The morning began with a deceptive calm.
The sky is clear.
The sun was shining warmly.
People carry out their activities as usual.
But for Valerie, that day felt different.
For some reason, since waking up, he felt an inexplicable anxiety.
The same feeling that often arises before something bad happens.
However, he tried to ignore it.
There has been too much chaos in the last few weeks.
The law firm collapsed.
Raka's secret is revealed.
The police are busy uncovering Vulture's past.
And now the whole city is like waiting for the next explosion.
Valerie just wanted it all to end.
He is tired.
Very tired.
Eleven o'clock in the morning.
Valerie leaves a cafe after meeting a former client of the firm.
The streets are quite crowded.
Cars passing by.
Pedestrians filled the sidewalks.
Normal atmosphere.
Safe.
At least it looks that way.
As he was about to open his car door, someone called from behind.
"Valerie."
He turned around.
And freeze.
A man was standing a few meters away from him.
A face he had never seen before.
Normal appearance.
Not conspicuous.
But there was something in his eyes that made Valerie immediately alert.
"Do we know each other?"
he asked.
The man smiled faintly.
"No."
Strange answer.
Too weird.
Valerie immediately grabbed her cell phone.
Her instincts told her something was wrong.
Very wrong.
But before I could do anything...
Someone appeared from behind.
A cloth covered his nose and mouth.
Valerie tried to fight back.
Trying to scream.
But his vision began to blur.
His body was weakening.
The world around him slowly disappeared.
And the last thing he saw before losing consciousness was the man's smile.
When Valerie opened her eyes again...
He is no longer in the city.
His head felt heavy.
Her wrists were tied.
The air that entered his lungs felt cold.
Very cold.
It took a few seconds before his vision focused.
And when it finally worked...
His heart immediately started beating fast.
It is in an old building.
Concrete floor.
Dull walls.
The window is broken.
And in front of the room...
Someone is sitting on a chair.
Pay attention to it.
The man slowly stood up.
His steps were calm.
Her face looks normal.
Too common.
But that's exactly what makes it scary.
Valerie didn't know him.
Or at least...
He felt like he didn't know her.
"Finally woke up."
said the man.
Valerie swallowed hard.
"Who are you?"
The man smiled.
"Not important."
"Then let me go."
"Not yet."
Valerie tries to untie the knot.
Free.
Too strong.
"What do you want?"
For the first time the man's smile disappeared.
Replaced by something much darker.
"I want to bring someone back."
At another place.
Samuel's phone vibrated.
Incoming messages.
Unknown number.
Just one photo.
Valerie's face.
Bound.
Afraid.
And below it there is one sentence.
Come if you want to see it live.
Samuel immediately stood up.
Her face was pale.
"What is it?"
asked Dion.
Samuel shows the screen.
Dion immediately froze.
"Unlucky..."
Less than fifteen minutes later.
Raka is already at the police station.
Evan and Rio received the same message.
The room suddenly filled with tension.
Rio hit the table.
"We'll track the number!"
"Already."
answered the officer.
"Can't."
Evan stared at the photo for a long time.
Then something caught his attention.
Photo background.
Concrete wall.
Karat.
And a small, barely visible symbol.
His eyes widened.
"No..."
he muttered.
Raka immediately turned around.
"What?"
Evan looked at him.
His facial expression changed.
As if I had just seen a ghost.
"I know this place."
A few minutes later.
They are in the briefing room.
The photo is enlarged on the screen.
All eyes were on it.
Evan pointed to a barely visible symbol.
"Look at this."
Rio frowned.
"So what?"
Evan swallowed hard.
Because he recognized the symbol.
Know him too well.
"Gap."
The room immediately fell silent.
Raka froze.
For the first time since entering the room.
Her face completely changed.
Because he also recognized the symbol.
Old symbol.
A symbol once used to mark the location of the victims' dumping.
A location no one should ever find.
The location that became the beginning of all nightmares.
That gap.
Meanwhile.
Valerie is still tied up.
Time seems to pass slowly.
The man was now standing near the window.
Looking out.
As if waiting for something.
Or someone.
"Do you know Raka?"
the man asked suddenly.
Valerie was silent.
"What is your relationship with him?"
No answer.
The man chuckled.
"Loyal."
Valerie started to feel scared.
Not an ordinary fear.
But rather the fear that arises when someone realizes that he is in the midst of something much bigger than he understands.
"Who are you really?"
Valerie asked.
The man turned his head.
Long.
Then answer slowly.
"Someone who was left behind."
The journey to the ravine took almost two hours.
The further they get from the city...
The atmosphere inside the vehicle was getting heavier.
Nobody spoke.
Because everyone understands the meaning of that place.
The place where dozens of bodies were found.
The place that became the symbol of Vulture.
A place that destroyed so many lives.
And now...
They went back there.
The sun was starting to set when the group arrived.
The wind is blowing hard.
A thin mist moved through the trees.
The chasm is still the same.
Dark.
Inside.
And horrible.
As if time never touched him.
Raka got out of the car.
His gaze immediately turned to the edge of the cliff.
Old memories invaded his mind.
Scream.
Blood.
Nights full of death.
It all came back to haunt him.
Then there was the sound of applause.
Plan.
Repeatedly.
Everyone immediately turned around.
From behind the ruins of an old building near a ravine...
A man walks out.
Calm.
Without fear.
Without haste.
It was as if he had been waiting for this moment for years.
This.
Valerie who was carried out of the building froze.
His eyes widened.
Her face was pale.
Her body was shaking.
Because for the first time...
He saw the kidnapper's face clearly.
And at that moment he recognized her.
Not because we've ever met.
But because of that name.
A name that has only appeared in snippets of stories from the past.
"This..."
he whispered.
He doesn't believe it.
I didn't expect it.
Never imagined.
All this time he thought they were hunting an unknown monster.
A shadow.
An anonymous psychopath.
But standing there was a real human being.
Humans who have a history with Raka.
Humans who have been controlling everything all this time.
And that realization terrified Valerie far more than the handcuffs on her hands.
Sena smiled.
Then he looked at Raka.
For a moment the world felt silent.
There is no sound.
There is no movement.
Just two people standing facing each other at the location where it all began.
The location where Vulture was born.
And the location where the Vulture was destroyed.
"Finally."
said Sena.
His voice was calm.
But it contains something far more dangerous.
Raka did not answer.
His gaze was cold.
"This."
The man's smile widened.
"I've waited years to hear you call my name again."
The wind blew again.
Make the trees sway.
The sky was starting to turn dark.
And everyone standing there felt the same way.
They had reached the end of their journey.
Because whatever happens after this...
It all started from that gap.
And most likely...
It will all end there too.Download Novelah App
