Chapter 39 - People Who Choose to Change
CRACK...
The cracking sound echoed in the rain.
The ground beneath Sena's body began to collapse.
Small stones fell into the ravine.
Everyone immediately tensed up.
"This!"
Rio shouted.
But it was too late.
The ground supporting the man's body simply collapsed.
Sena lost her balance.
His body slipped towards the ravine.
In a split second...
Sena managed to grab a tree root that was sticking out from the cliff wall.
His body is now hanging.
Tens of meters above the bottom of the cliff.
The rain makes everything slippery.
The roots he was holding on to kept moving.
As if it could break at any time.
Samuel froze.
Dion paled.
Valerie covered her mouth.
No one dared to approach.
Because the ground around the ravine also started to crack.
One wrong step could send them down with it.
Sena looked up.
His gaze immediately found Raka.
And for the first time...
There was fear on his face.
A fear that has never been seen before.
Because death was now truly before his eyes.
Raka moves forward.
But at that time...
"Wait!"
Valerie shouted.
Everyone turned around.
Valerie was still very close to the edge of the cliff.
His hands were still tied.
The ground beneath his feet also began to slide.
"Unlucky!"
Samuel immediately ran.
But a big crack appeared between them.
Makes everyone stop.
Now the situation has changed.
Valerie is on the right side.
Sena hangs on the left side.
And Raka stood in the middle.
It's too far to save both of them at once.
The rain is getting heavier.
The wind is getting stronger.
The abyss seemed to swallow everything.
Sena laughed.
Plan.
Then it got louder.
A laugh that sounded desperate.
"Very funny."
he muttered.
Blood was still flowing from his face.
"We're finally here."
Raka did not answer.
His eyes continued to monitor the condition of the ground.
Calculating the possibilities.
Looking for a way out.
"There is no way."
said Sena.
As if he could read her mind.
"You can't save both of us."
Valerie swallowed hard.
His heart was beating so hard.
He knew Sena was right.
Anyone can see it.
There is not enough time.
The root that Sena was holding made a squeaking sound.
The ground beneath Valerie also continued to collapse little by little.
"Tell me one thing."
said Sena.
His gaze did not leave Raka.
"Before it all ends."
Lightning flashed across the sky.
A white flash illuminated the entire abyss.
"Tell me I'm right."
Sena's voice started to tremble.
"Tell me that monsters can't change."
The open room suddenly felt quiet.
Even the sound of the rain seemed to fade away.
Valerie didn't fully understand.
Neither did Samuel.
But Raka understood.
Totally understand.
Because for years that's what Sena believed.
That people like them can't get any better.
Can't leave the past.
Can't get out of the darkness.
"Just say it!"
Sena shouted.
"I've lost everything because I trusted you!"
His hands started to shake.
The tree roots are shifting more and more.
"You used to be the Vulture!"
he shouted.
"You are a monster!"
"I saw it myself!"
"You killed!"
"You lead!"
"You're ruining people's lives!"
Rainwater mixed with tears on her face.
For the first time during this entire game...
Sena's mask began to crumble.
"I spent my life trying to understand why you changed!"
he shouted again.
"I'm trying to find the answer!"
"I'm trying to prove that everything is a lie!"
Her voice broke.
"Because if you can change..."
He bowed.
"...then everything I've done so far is meaningless."
The sentence hit everyone who heard it.
Even Valerie froze.
Because for the first time...
He saw the true essence of Sena.
Not just a murderer.
Not just an imitator.
Not just enemies.
But someone who is so attached to their past that they can't live without it.
Raka stared at him for a long time.
Very long.
Then he said softly,
"I don't change in a day."
Sena was silent.
"I didn't wake up one morning and become a good person."
Raka continued.
"I still carry all those sins."
"I still remember all the victims."
"I still remember all the blood."
His gaze turned to the abyss.
A place that witnessed so many deaths.
"Every day I live with guilt."
he said.
"Every day."
Sena gritted his teeth.
"That's not an answer."
"That's the answer."
Raka looked at him again.
"Just because you've changed doesn't mean the past is gone."
Lightning struck again.
"Changing means choosing."
Raka.
"Repeatedly."
"Every day."
"Every time you have the chance to turn back into a monster."
Sena froze.
"I can still kill."
said Raka.
"I still know how."
"I'm still capable of doing it."
His gaze turned cold.
Very cold.
Samuel glimpsed a shadow of the old Vulture.
"But I chose not to."
Sena laughed bitterly.
"No."
he muttered.
"That's not enough."
The root he was holding shifted again.
Some are starting to come loose.
"You are lying."
he whispered.
"Monsters don't change."
At the same time, the ground beneath Valerie collapsed.
"CANCER!"
Valerie shouted.
His body lost balance.
Suddenly everything moved.
Samuel ran.
Dion followed suit.
Rio tries to find a safe route.
But they were too far away.
Raka only has one choice.
One second.
Maybe less.
He looked at Sena.
Then looked at Valerie.
Sena saw the decision appear in Raka's eyes.
And for the first time...
His face changed.
Because he knew what was going to happen.
"Did you see?"
he shouted.
"You have to choose!"
Valerie slipped further and further.
His hands tried to reach for something.
But failed.
Sena is still hanging.
Still alive.
Still can be saved.
But not both.
The rain was falling harder and harder.
The world seems to slow down.
Then Raka moved.
Not towards Sena.
But towards Valerie.
Sena froze.
Absolutely frozen.
Raka jumped.
Crashing through the collapsing ground.
Through the mud.
Passing the rock.
"CANCER!"
Samuel shouted.
In a split second...
Raka managed to catch Valerie's hand.
Valerie's body almost fell into the ravine.
But Raka's grip held him back.
"I got you!"
Raka shouted.
Valerie cried.
For the first time since the kidnappings began.
Meanwhile...
Sena just stared.
Staring at the man she had been chasing for years.
Staring at the person who should have chosen to kill his enemy.
Staring at the person who should be a monster.
But instead choose to save others.
The roots that supported it finally broke.
CRACK!
Sena's body immediately fell several meters.
But reflexively he managed to grab a rock outcropping on the cliff wall.
Still alive.
But barely survived.
He looked up.
His breath was ragged.
And up there...
Raka was still trying to pull Valerie out.
Not chasing him.
Not kill him.
Not revenge.
But rather save someone.
Sena laughed.
Plan.
Weak.
Almost inaudible.
"I lose..."
he muttered.
For the first time in his life...
He began to understand something he had never wanted to believe.
That maybe...
Change does exist.
It's not because someone forgets his sins.
It's not because someone becomes holy.
It's not that the past is gone.
But because someone chooses to be better...
When he still had reasons to get worse.
Above the abyss that is the beginning of all tragedies...
In the birthplace of Vulture...
Raka has made his choice.
Not as Adrian.
Not as Vulture.
Not as a monster.
But as someone who has fallen so deeply...
But still choose not to drag others down with him.
And that choice was one that Sena could never truly understand.Download Novelah App
