Chapter 40 - END

The wind howled between the cliffs.
The rain is still falling.
But not as heavy as before.
It was as if the sky itself was running out of tears.
At the edge of the cliff, everyone froze.
Because they had just witnessed something they would never forget.
Sena was hanging on the cliff wall.
His hands gripped the brittle protrusion of rock.
Meanwhile up there, Raka managed to pull Valerie away from the landslide.
Valerie fell onto the muddy ground.
Panting.
Crying.
Still alive.
Samuel immediately helped Valerie.
Dion helped him away from the edge.
Rio and Evan ran over.
But their attention was soon drawn back to the abyss.
Towards Sena.
The man still persisted.
But not for long.
His hands were already bleeding.
His fingers were shaking violently.
His body kept rubbing against sharp rocks.
And the worst...
The cliff wall he was standing on began to collapse little by little.
Raka stepped to the side.
His eyes met Sena's.
For a moment...
Nobody spoke.
Just the sound of rain.
Just the sound of the wind.
Only the sound of small stones continuing to fall into the darkness.
Then Sena chuckled.
A laugh that was very different from before.
There is no madness.
There is no hatred.
Just tired.
"Funny."
he muttered.
Blood flowed from the corner of his lips.
"I spent my life chasing you."
Raka was silent.
"I want to wake up the monster."
Sena continued.
"But it turns out..."
He raised his head.
His gaze was blank.
"...the monster is indeed gone."
Valerie stared at the man.
For the first time...
He didn't see the killer.
Didn't see the enemy.
But someone who has gone too far astray.
Someone who lives in the past to the point of being unable to see the future.
"This."
Raka said quietly.
The man smiled faintly.
"I hate it when you call my name like that."
A large rock fell from the wall of the ravine.
Sena's body shook.
His grip weakened.
Samuel held his breath.
Dion paled.
"You know what hurts the most?" Sena asked.
No one answered.
"Not a loss."
he said.
"Not death."
"It's not treason."
Her eyes began to well up with tears.
"The most painful thing is realizing that you were wrong all along."
Lightning flashes far behind the clouds.
The light illuminated Sena's face for a moment.
And for the first time...
There is no hatred there.
Just sadness.
"I hope you stay a monster."
he whispered.
"Because if you can change..."
Her voice was shaking.
"...that means I should be able to too."
The sentence hit everyone who heard it.
Even Raka froze.
But it was all too late.
Too late.
A large crack was heard from below.
KRAAAKKK...
The rock protrusion Sena was holding broke.
Time seemed to stop.
Sena's body lost its grip.
For a split second...
It is free falling.
Raka immediately extended his hand.
"THIS!"
But the distance is too far.
Too late.
Sena looked up.
Staring at Raka.
Looking up at the sky.
Staring at the world slowly moving away from him.
And strangely...
He smiled.
A calm smile.
Then his body disappeared into the thick fog that enveloped the abyss.
There was no screaming.
No last words.
Just silence.
Then...
A faint crashing sound was heard from the depths.
And it all ends.
Nobody spoke for several minutes.
The rain slowly stopped.
Leaving the sound of the wind blowing through the trees.
The abyss became silent again.
As if nothing ever happened.
It was as if for years the place had never witnessed death.
Never been a grave.
It was never the beginning of all the tragedies.
But everyone knows the truth.
The gap has taken another life.
And maybe...
The last life.
Two weeks later.
The city is starting to return to normal.
The media slowly stopped discussing Sena.
The serial murder case is officially closed.
The Vulture Organization was declared destroyed.
The remaining members were either arrested or disappeared.
But one case is still ongoing.
Raka's case.
This time there was no escape.
There are no lies.
No fake identities.
In the courtroom filled with journalists and the public, Raka stood alone.
Wearing prison clothes.
Without a lawyer.
Without defense.
The judge read out a long list of his past crimes.
Murder.
Conspiracy.
Organized crime.
Various actions that have destroyed the lives of many people.
Everyone listens.
And when the judge finally asked if there was anything he wanted to say...
Raka stood up slowly.
The room became silent.
"There is."
he answered.
He looked around the room.
Seeing the victim's family.
Seeing the reporter.
Seeing the police.
Seeing Samuel.
Dion.
Valerie.
Evan.
Rio.
Everyone who still survives until the end.
"I don't apologize to get forgiveness."
he said.
The room remained silent.
"I also did not ask for a lighter sentence."
His eyes slowly lowered.
"There are many people who can't come back because of me."
His voice was calm.
But it felt much heavier than any scream.
"And nothing can change that."
He raised his head again.
"But I will accept whatever decision today makes."
Because for the first time in his life...
He is not running away.
Three months later.
The iron prison door closed with a loud bang.
CLANG!
Raka sat on a simple bed in his cell.
The room was small.
Cold.
Empty.
There is no law firm.
There is no office.
There is no old life.
But strangely...
He felt lighter.
For the first time in years...
He doesn't pretend to be anyone.
Not being Adrian.
Not being a Vulture.
Don't be a monster.
Just being himself.
With all the sins.
All wounds.
And all the consequences.
Outside prison, life goes on.
Samuel began to rebuild the firm.
Dion helps him.
Valerie slowly recovers from the trauma.
Evan and Rio close the final file on the Vulture case.
Meanwhile...
Far from the city.
Far from humans.
Far from normal life.
The gap is still there.
The fog still shrouded the cliffs.
The wind still blew through the trees.
And the rain still falls occasionally, wetting the ground that holds so many secrets.
Several search teams have gone down.
They found the remains of an old victim.
Bones.
Personal items.
Buried pieces of the past.
But they never reached the full bottom of the ravine.
Too deep.
Too dangerous.
Too broad.
And sometimes...
When the fog falls too thick...
The abyss looked like a giant mouth that had not finished swallowing its secrets.
Because maybe...
There are still other victims who have not been found.
There are still other names that are not yet known.
There are still other stories buried under layers of soil and time.
Nobody knows.
And maybe...
Nobody will ever know.
But one thing is certain.
Vulture is over.
Sena has fallen.
And Raka finally accepted his punishment.
Not as a monster.
Not as a legend.
Not as a feared shadow.
But as a human being.
A man who realized his mistake too late.
But finally chose to take responsibility for everything.
Behind bars, Raka looked at the sunset sky from the small window of his cell.
The last rays of sunlight touched his face.
He closed his eyes slowly.
And for the first time in his life...
He feels like a human being.
END.
