Suddenly, everything went mute after I heard the gun fall out of my hands as it trembles. Unknowingly where it came from, darkness embraced me as if it was telling me that that was where I belong.
I feel nothing but emptiness not until I started hearing voices I don't know where it was coming from and don't have any idea who was talking to me.
"Why did you kill him?"
It was a man's voice. I looked around but I couldn't see anything but darkness.
When I tried to talk back to defend myself, my mouth was unknowingly frozen. My head automatically spoke and explained on my own behalf instead even when the uncertainty that he could hear me. But surprisingly, he did.
I didn't kill him! I actually saved him—his soul! Even if it means being the antagonist on my actual story. And he deserves it, anyway! He almost raped my mother if it weren't for her sister, aunt Heather, who saw them two! And I will hate him for the rest of my life for what he did! I will never ever forgive him for that! I just gave him the right punishment he deserve, what was wrong with that?!
"How dare you do those things as if you have the power to control anyone's fate?!"
My heart almost leaped from my heart when I heard his thundering voice and I would be lying if I said that I wasn't scared of him for a moment.
I don't care! He deserved to die!
"You are no different with the people who killed your brother."
Yes, I am! They killed my brother who's innocent and couldn't even kill a rat!
"How sure are you?"
I... I am certainly sure! I... I knew—I knew my brother!
"How sure are you that you knew your brother so much? Well enough that even the people whom he trust besides you, knew how much you knew him? He couldn't even tell you his little dirty secrets..." He let out a mischievous chuckle that sent me chills down to my spine.
No... No! No... That's not true! I—
"How long will you pretend, Dilly? How long will you make yourself believe every lies that you made for your own satisfaction to avoid disappointments? How long?"
I was too stunned that I could barely move an inch. Tears started to fall into my cheeks and before I knew it, I already lost my consciousness.
I was awakened by the strange noises coming from nowhere. When I tried to stand up, my head suddenly throbbed that I almost stumble if I didn't hold onto the board of the bed.
But as stubborn as I was, I forced myself to move and run towards the door. I opened it as quickly as I could to escape from this place—wherever I was.
But the moment I opened the door, I immediately figured out where I was.
On the route.
I ran off as fast as I can as if I was being chased by someone but before I could even reach the gate, Shirley already blocked her body on my way while crossing her arms and raising her eyebrow.
"Where do you think you're going?" she asked with her usual blank expression and her don't-you-dare-lie-to-me tone.
"I... I—"
"DILLY!"
My gaze immediately went to Henry who called me behind and my eyes teared up for an unknown reason when he hugged me so tightly.
He could've been scolded me... He could've been hurt me... He could've been even killed me. But what is he doing right now?
Don't be a fool, Dilly. He's just trying to win your trust. An enemy will never be an ally. He maybe an ally right now, you shouldn't make yourself forget that he's still an enemy. You were just forced to become their ally. Always remember that.
I don't wanna always make myself forget that either but I know at the back of my mind, I couldn't. And even though I hate to admit it, I was already attached with them.
When he loosened his hug to me, he looked at me piercedly and after a second, he wiped all the tears on my eyes and cheeks. This comfort... This comfort that I haven't felt in a while. The comfort that I have been longing for and have been wishing that I could possibly make myself feel that on my own. But being alone isn't enough. Not in my case who was already used to being dependent on her brother ever since.
I formed a small smile but it immediately faded when I heard Shirley scoff that Rother seconded with a teasing laugh who suddenly appeared beside her. Was I that too preoccupied to not notice him? Gosh! I clenched my fists and kept a distance at least a meter away from Henry as I feel my face getting heated because of the embarrassment.
"You two, go away and just do your jobs," Henry suddenly announced.
I heard Shirley scoff again but it was way louder than earlier. Rother was about to say something to her but she quickly turned her back, irritated, and he was left hanging. He then glared at Henry. "Look what you did to me Shirley babes! And, excuse me, you are the one who should do your job! See, you're here, flirting!" Then he turned around and started walking away. My eyes widened at his claim and I just couldn't look at Henry straight in his eyes even when I felt that he was staring at me.
"And by the way, I ship you two but if you keep on irritating my Shirley babes, I swear I will make you both pay for it all! If I had to beg the heavens or use a black magic if it didn't work, I would!" Rother quickly added and my heart almost leaped out of shock.
"Stop with your nonsense threathenings and just get the fuck out in front of me. Do whatever you want, I don't care," Henry lazily talked back.
Oh... He don't care...
"Can you, uh, give me a ride to my house?" I asked him emotionless when Rother finally vanished from our sights, swallowing whatever's been stucked on my throat earlier.
"Yeah, sure. I'll just finish what I was doing earlier and I will drive you home quickly. Wait a minute. Stay right here, I'll be back soon."
I just raised my eyebrows once and crossed my arms while waiting. I was just standing there for quite a while when my phone vibrated in the pocket of my jeans that I didn't even know it was there all this time. My eyes widened and my heart started beating so fast when I saw my boss' name on the screen. He definitely heard the news about me, escaping, that was why he was calling. But how did he know that I have my phone on me? I don't even have an idea that I have it all along if he hadn't call me.
