Chapter 23 7 : RIVALS(PART 2)

I was lying in my bed, alone in the room, when I woke up. I carefully stood up and I can feel the heaviness of my body as well as my heart. The moment I stepped outside of my room, I can already hear the murmurs of people downstairs.
I heard some noises from broken glass or plates that made me flinch and I had to tighten my grip on the railings of the stairs to avoid stumbling and falling. But my grip got even tighter when I heard someone calling my name. It was from him, Henry, who just saved me a while ago.
My eyes teared up again as my breathing started to become heavy. When a sob escaped from my lips, he immediately came and hugged me. I can't help myself but think of him as my brother. I know I shouldn't but he reminds me of my brother. His smile, his comforting words, his hugs, and his... eyes that as if telling me I shouldn't worry because everything's gonna be just fine.
His warm embrace calmed me so I silently wiped my tears off as he freed me from his hug. He gazed at me that I had to look away 'cause I can't take it too much longer. Then he asked softly, "What do you want to eat?"
"A-Anything..."
He put his arms on my shoulder and carefully put me in place in the dining area. From sitting there, I can see some pieces of the broken glass. My eyes shifted to his arms and saw a small cut. It stopped bleeding but it's not something he should just ignore. "H-Henry..." I called him and he quickly looked back. "Your arms..." I pointed out his right arm where the cut is but instead of getting worried about himself, he just laughed it off.
"Come on, Dilly. I'm not going to die with that small cut. And you know, I'm already used to this, given the work I do."
Now that he opened the topic, I can't stop myself from being curious about their agendas. Why do they work like this? Why do they have to make their hands dirty to get what they want? Why do they have to involve me in this?
"Why do you have to put me in danger just to get what you want?" I was shocked myself when I asked it without stuttering as if I'm not scared at all right now. He didn't answer, he didn't even look back at me. "What can you get from using me? As if I'm being a great tool to use for you? I'm even being a burden."
Still, he didn't answer. He continued chopping the meat and started cooking it. I sighed in defeat, knowing that I will never get a clear answer from any of them. They just won't tell me and let me suffer. They never cared for me. They just go with the plan where they can use me as bait until I lose my mind and get hospitalized.
"Where is him?" I asked, referring to Val, and he already understood it.
"Dilly..." he pleaded but I ignored it and stood up, not having care anymore about my health. He tried to stop me by grabbing my elbow but even in a weak state, I took it away from him and pushed him to the corner of the doorway.
I clenched my fists to stop myself from tearing up again when I noticed the worried reaction in his eyes. Stop... Stop worrying about me...
I breathed aggressively and looked at him intently. "I don't need that... I don't need your concern because after all, you're still my enemy," I hissed before turning my back on him and leaving him there hanging.
I maneuvered my motorcycle into the route where I think he is. Lucky me, I always have the key in my pants. I gritted my teeth when I arrived there and quickly walked into the elevator. I aggressively clicked the button continuously as if it would take me to the floor where the office is faster.
"Valkyrie!" I shouted as soon as I walked inside. I caught him talking to someone on the phone but I didn't even feel guilty when he had to cut it to pay attention to me.
From a deadly serious expression, the side of his lips raised irritated me. I clenched my fists and breathed heavily to stop myself from punching him. I was about to say it when I heard a loud noise from the door. I turned around and saw Henry coming closer to us. His face was serious and I  looked away when his eyes immediately drifted from Val to me.
I silently cleared my throat and used all the courage I had built earlier to say everything. "I want to quit."
There was a long silence when Henry finally broke it. "What?" I already expected it to be his reaction. But it was more like as if telling me, So you're just going to leave like this?
He knew I was already going to quit. I knew it from his reaction earlier. He stopped me but I didn't let him control me. I was already controlled by my parents ever since I got in my right mind. I can't afford to let someone control me again even if I know that their decisions are wiser than mine. At least I did on my own. Finally... For the first time, I have decided for myself.
I waited for Val to react but I didn't hear anything from him. And when I looked up to him, he was fiercely gazing at me like a hawk. I... got scared. Chills are running through my spine. I gulped and clenched my fists to get a hold of myself.
"I want to quit..." I repeated but still, no answer I received from him. "I said I want to quit! Can't you hear me?!"
This time, his lips curved until he started laughing. It was getting scarier as it got louder and louder each time. His smile is wide and his teeth in the front were all visible.
"Do you think I can do that?" He stepped closer to me, still having the grin on his lips. "Should I?" He breathed heavily and sighed. "Don't you feel bad for your parents? You know what will happen if—"
"I know! I..." I bit the side of my cheeks to stop myself from crying. "I-I don't care..." It was a lie.
"What?" He started laughing out loud and it was the only thing that could hear in the whole office. It echoed as if he was some antagonist I often watch in movies. His eyes became sharp as ever and if glare could kill, I would be lying on the ground now, soaking in my own blood.
"You really are an arrogant brat as how I thought ever since I met you..." He turned his back and sat on his swivel chair. He intertwined his fingers and put them on his chin, amused while watching me. "It's so bold of you to say that, huh. Well, I already expected that. Who would even feel guilty if she already killed someone? It's no big deal." He looked at me curiously. "Isn't it, Dilly?"
I shivered how his eyes turned cold and intense at the same time. "I really wonder how does it feel to hear other people calling you by the nickname created by the one who you killed, a long time ago?"
