Chapter 98 The Stalker

Nora's POV
Damon was on his way. I could barely sit still. Thanks to Jane who had finally visited and brought over some stuff I needed, I was able to look better than I had in days.
Not that I felt it mattered to Damon how I looked—after all, my looks hadn't stopped him from ravaging my lips the other day—but I wanted to look pretty for him.
I applied the lipstick and then some gloss, marvelling at how beautiful I looked in the mirror. I imagined Damon wiping it off later with his kisses and I giggled as a school girl, curling my toes in anticipation of what was to come during the day.
“Are you ready, Mrs. Bennett?” The nurse asked as she walked into the room.
I turned to her and nodded. I was ready as I could ever be.
If she had something to comment about my freshly made looks, she kept her opinions to herself. It would have been nice if she had a compliment for me though.
“Let's go,” she said and moved behind my wheelchair, wrapping her hands around the handles.
I was excited. I kept my smile in place as she wheeled me out of the room, glad to be finally out of it for the first time in days since I had been rushed to the hospital.
I smiled at the people I walked past, excited about seeing new faces other than Damon’s, Jane's, and that of the medical personnel.
“How do you feel?” The nurse asked, trying to make small conversation.
“I feel good.” I replied honestly, spreading my hands wide to show how happy I was.
If she was smiling behind me, I had no way of seeing that.
She wheeled into the garden and found a remote peaceful space for me where I could enjoy the outdoor and watch others have fun. Just what I needed.
Sitting in the garden made me miss the one back at home and I blinked back tears.
“Let me get you some snacks.” She said. “Or don't you want?”
“I do,” I nodded. “Thank you.”
I wanted to be alone anyway and savor the miracle of being able to enjoy nature again.
She walked away and I settled into watching the people leave and arrive while dealing with my thoughts. A delivery guy walked in with the biggest bouquet of flowers I had ever seen. The flowers were so beautiful that I wondered who they were for.
Whoever the flowers were for, they were the luckiest patient in the hospital.
I could see that I wasn't the only one who thought of that as many eyes trailed behind the delivery guy, curious to know who the receiver would be. It would be a shame though if the person wasn't outdoor as we wouldn't get to know who it was for.
My eyes widened as the delivery guy kept walking, headed toward the garden.
Ooh. I couldn't help being excited, eager to know who the lucky patient was.
My eyes narrowed as he headed toward me and I glanced back to see if someone was behind me. There was no one else there but me. Could it be that he had made a mistake with the direction or had no idea who he was supposed to give the flowers to?
What a pity.
He stood before me. I was about to call him out on his mistake when he spoke.
“Nora?”
My eyes widened, shocked that he hadn't made a mistake and thrilled that the flowers were really for me.
“Yes?”
He handed the flowers to me and turned, walking away without another word.
I breathed in the sweet scent of the flowers, my heart thumping in excitement. It didn't help that some of the people around looked at me with envy. I regretted sending my nurse away. If I hadn't, I could have told her to wheel me back to my room.
“Oh my!” I breathed, thinking of Damon and how sweet he was.
He didn't have to send me flowers. I appreciated the gift and gesture more than anything.
I couldn't wait to have him near so I could kiss and show him how grateful I was. I regretted not leaving my room with my phone, I could have dialed him immediately to scream to him how grateful I was.
I bet he would have liked that.
Hours later, I was still seated outside, enjoying the cool breeze and the snacks I had gotten when Damon walked up to me.
“I had no idea you were here.” He breathed as he settled beside me. “I already went to your room and got told that you were here.”
I smiled at him. “I needed a change of space.”
He nodded. “As needed. How do you feel?”
“I feel good.”
Better now that he was with me.
Before I could thank him about the flowers, he beat me to it. “I see you've made some new friends.” He commented.
I glanced at him, wondering what he was talking about. “I haven't made any friend yet. I've been here seated alone.”
“Oh!” He blushed at his mistake. “I thought it was a friend that you were seated with who forgot to pick their flowers when they left.” He explained, glancing at the flowers.
I frowned, wondering if he was pulling my legs. “Didn't you send these?”
He shook his head, glanced at the flowers once again and frowned as he stared at me. “These are for you?”
I nodded. “I got them hours ago and thought they were from you.”
He shook his head, his frown getting deeper. “I didn't send the flowers.”
My heart squeezed with pain as the warm bubble I had been wrapped in crashed right before my eyes.
If Damon didn't send the flowers, who could have done that?
And why?
