Chapter 46
~Jacqueline’s POV~
“Wow, Jackie! This is good news.”
I had leant the phone against the mirror on the dressing table. Bianca smiled cheerily as I told about the pregnancy. From the screen, I could tell she was at her flat.
“Thank you!” I said, faking the smile.
“Aw, Sugar! I can’t believe you are to be a mum soon. It’s worth pulling the roof in excitement. Oh, mehn! I am going to be an aunt. Wait? No, godmother.” She expressed happily.
“There is still much time to decide on that. It’s still a month and two weeks.” I explained.
“Oh! That’s a long time. But it’s worth the wait.” She said jovially,
“And I’m guessing your husband is excited about it as much as you do.”
Her words pulled me back to the nightmare I was trying to run from.
“Well, I’m sorry Cupcake. I had the urge to.”
His action became vivid in my mind. I could still here the picture rip in halves. I can’t still believe he would be that cruel towards his own child.
“…Jackie!”
“Hello!”
Bianca’s voice snapped me out of the trance. I blinked and looked at the screen. Bianca had furrowed her brow.
“Are you okay?” She asked me.
I simply nodded. I maintained the smile, even though it killed me inside.
“That’s the spirit, Sugar!” She cheered.
I hummed. The breeze blew in, causing me to have goose pimples. The jumper had worn was long sleeved. Though, one side was off the shoulder.
“Have you started attending ante-natal session?” She asked happily.
“Mhm!” I hummed.
“That’s good, Sugar. You just need rest and good loving. I’m sure you’re getting all that from your husband.” She said jovially.
Only if you knew the monster I live with.
“Mhm!” I hummed, faking the smile.
Each time my lips curl up, my heart bleeds within. Liam was right. Rex has me where he wanted. The call began to bluff. I could barely hear what she was saying.
“Bianca, are you—?”
Bleep!
The call dropped. I guess the reception from her end was bad. Or could it have been mine? That was lest of my problems. I dragged the chair noisily and stood on my feet. I walked towards the bed. I sat down with my cross-legged. I had my hand on my belly.
It’s been two days since I talked to Rex. I rubbed my belly. I couldn’t help but replay what I seen in his office. The moans, his lover in between his—. I clutched the end of the jumper as tears welled up in my eyes. I blinked and they ran down my cheeks. If there was anything I would want to forget, it was that.
“Ma’am,”
The knock got my attention. I quickly wiped off the tears and sniffed. I stayed calm.
“Yes.” I managed to say, partially letting voice to crack.
The door pulled open. Cameron and a maid entered the room. The maid had carried a tray. There was a glass of juice and a plate of biscuits. She placed the tray in front of me and flashed a smile at me.
“These are for you, Ma’am.” She said good-humouredly, wearing a smile.
I glanced at the items on the tray.
“I never asked for these.” I replied airily, looking at her blankly.
The maid’s smile slowly faded. She turned her round and looked at Cameron confusingly.
“Actually,” He spoke up,
“The boss rang me through and said you should eat. Knowing you might dislike food, he thought you should have snacks instead.”
Yeah, right. What a thoughtful husband I have! How pathetic! I rolled my eyes.
“I am not hungry.” I declined, without looking at either of them.
“I was instructed not to take it back, Ma’am.” The maid replied feebly.
I glanced at them and then the tray. I let out a sigh. I picked a biscuit and took a bite out of it.
“You can go.” I dismissed the maid.
She replied in a nod and left the room. Cameron glanced at the open door and had his eyes at me.
“You really shouldn’t be hard on him.” He said plainly.
I sniggered at him.
“You know, you should really quit this job as a bodyguard and probably, I don’t know, become a psychologist.” I said ironically.
“I might take that into consideration for the future. But right now, I’m employed to keep an eye on you while he is at work.” He said candidly.
Puff! I took another bite of the biscuit. I picked up the glass and took a sip of the juice. Mm! I’ve got it admit. This tastes good together. Yum!
“I’ll leave you to enjoy your meal.” He said.
Cameron headed for the door. I watched him as he pulled it open and left the room. I picked another biscuit and took a bite out of it. Hard him? Really? I shook my head disappointingly. I wish he knew the full story to my aggression to his boss. Maybe he might rephrase those words.
~Rex’s POV~
I leant my back against the chair, with my elbow on the arm of the chair. I had switched the surveillance from phone to the laptop for a better view. Cupcake had finished the biscuits and drank the juice halfway.
It has been two days and two nights since I had talked to her. I do regret the outburst but that child of hers is what she keeps thinking of. It hasn’t really been born yet but it’s already causing problems. Heaven knows I’m not already to be a father yet.
From the footage, Cupcake stood on her feet and kept the tray on the dressing table. She yawned, covering her mouth. She pulled the duvet and got in bed. She lay down and covered herself with it. She soon fell asleep. I tapped a key on the keyboard and made the computer to sleep.
I really should talk to her. Maybe I should buy her something. Ugh! Trying to be a decent gentleman feels like torture. I guess this was what Jasper meant about being tied to one woman. No matter how I try, I can’t simply get over her. Her body, her lips, those black eyes, that curly hair—that’s one reason I can’t let her go. I might be a viper but Cupcake is my anti-venom.
I glanced at the door as its handle turned. I narrowed my eyes as it pulled open. My mood changed when I saw who it was. Liam flashed a glance at me and slammed my door. Do I really need to teach him some manners before he knew his boundaries?
“There is a reason why you have to knock first.” I said coldly.
“Oh, sorry. I was only making sure your girlfriend wasn’t here. Her workstation was empty and I figured she might be here.” He replied ironically as he walked towards the desk. He had his hands in the pockets of his trousers.
“Quit beating about thr bush. I know you don’t like Paula.” I said steely.
“Definitely not Paula. I’m taking about Jackie.” He said coolly.
What does he want from her this time?
“I heard—no. I learnt that she is carrying your child. Congratulations! You beat me to it.” He said airily.
“You had your chance with her. But you decided to sleep with Samantha behind my back. She is gone and I have the woman you love. No. Used to. That sounds better, doesn’t it?” I taunted him, wearing a sly smile.
Liam pursed his lips and shook his head.
“You can brag all that you want. As long as I’m still breathing, I’ll make you won’t have her.” He said firmly.
“Oh, really?” I slung him off,
“You and what army?”
“I don’t need an army. I’ll get her back and you’ll be the reason I would achieve my aim. She doesn’t deserve to be with b*llend like you.” He said scornfully.
“Neither does she with you. Instead of trying to scare me and all that, just accept the fact that you lost and I won. It’s that simple. Don’t try to make the hate that complicated. Remember, my child is growing in her womb.” I boasted, wearing a sly smile.
Liam stayed mute and scowled at me. Seeing him pissed made me really happy. Victory never felt good especially rubbing in the enemy’s face.
“If you have nothing else to say, kindly use the door.” I said firmly.
“This isn’t the end yet. I know you’re going to fall through again. And when you’re out of reach, I’ll take back what’s mine.” He said boldly.
Liam scanned the office and glanced at me. He turned round and headed for the door. He pulled it open and slammed. He is gone.Download Novelah App
