Chapter 48

~Rex’s POV~
I opened the door and entered my office. I closed the door without looking at it. Oh! What a day! Who would ever believe an hour meeting would eventually turn to three hours? I’m glad it’s over. I let out a sigh and walked towards the table across the room.
I turned over the glass and unscrewed the top of the bottle of Hennessy. I poured in some and partially screwed back the top. I walked away from the table, towards my desk. I was almost there when I caught a glimpse of the door opening.
I stopped and waited to see who it was. I took a sip of the Hennessy. Paula walked in, with her eyes at the file she was holding. I walked to my seat. I kept the glass on the table. I took off my jacket and hung it behind the chair. I sat down tiredly.
“Here is the file you had asked for earlier.” She said as she walked towards the desk.
Paula kept the file on the desk. She glanced the glass on the table and furrowed her brow.
“What’s with the glass?” She asked airily.
I had my eyes at the glass and flashed a glance at her. I sat down on the chair. I picked up the glass and took a sip of the content.
“Am I talking to myself now?” She scoffed.
I held the glass and swirled the liquid.
“I needed a break from—?” I said but paused for a sip.
“From me?” She asked eagerly.
I glanced at her and looked away. I held up the glass to the light. It reflected partially through the glass. I shook my head.
“I can’t be tired of you. It’s just, I’m worn out from everything. Work, racing,—“ I mentioned openly.
“Your marriage?” She pointed out.
I’m clearly drained because of that. Cupcake’s resilience and the child she is carrying, enough reasons to drive me nuts. I ignored her questions and just stayed mute. Paula walked round the desk to my chair. She sat down on my lap, collecting the glass from my hand.
“You do know this won’t do, right?” She said playfully as she shook the glass gently.
Paula kept the glass on the table. I looked at her keenly. Her hands went to the buttons of her shirt, slowly undoing each one. My lips curled up to the side as I saw through the slightly open shirt. She stopped halfway and smiled at me smugly. Damn! She read my mind.
I leant closer to kiss her neck but she move away a little. I furrowed my brow at her.
“Why did you do that?” I asked curiously.
“We can’t have each other here.” She declined, without making eye contact.
Though my eyes were looking at her, they were literally at her chest.
“Why not?” I asked her coldly.
Paula faced me, still wearing her smug smile. She had her arm round my neck while her other arm stroked my hair.
“Can’t you see that I need a free room to help relieve of your stress? The office isn’t doing you any good and my back often hurts because I’m not comfortable. Can’t we just go back go to the way it was before?” She said coaxingly, biting her lower lip.
“I’m sorry but I can’t take you with me to my house. Cupcake would get angry with me.” I blurted out, without giving it a thought.
“Wow! She gets a cute nickname but I don’t.” She replied ironically, rolling her eyes.
“Anyways, I wasn’t suggesting your house. I was thinking in a hotel, just tonight. No quick ones. Slow, at your pace until ecstasy, just the way you’ve always liked it.”
“You do remember I’m a married man, right?” I pointed out.
“Oh! Spare me that sermon. If you want to belong only to your beloved cupcake, you wouldn’t be needing to soothe your rage and desires.” She blurted out, being a bit curt.
Wow! Someone was jealous. Doesn’t she still remember that this was just based on pleasure and not actually emotions? Ugh! All I have to endure to just feel this.
“Paula, I—.” I said softly, trying to sweet talk her.
She got up from my lap and folded her arms. She narrowed her eyes as she stared at me coldly. My phone vibrated on the desk. I glanced at the screen and read the caller ID inwardly.
[Daisy]
“You have to make your choice now. It is either me or Cupcake.” She dared.
I looked at her. Her facial expression became stern. She really meant it. I looked at the ringing phone again and flashed a glance at Paula. Satisfaction or Urgency? Satisfaction or—?
“That was enough time. I hope you’re happy with your wife.” She said coolly as she quickly did her buttons.
“Paul—.”
Paula walked away from the desk to the door. The call ended. Oh! Which should I choose? My only way to ease this stress asides drinking is walking away while my—. Use your head, Rex.
“I choose you.” I said loudly, to her hearing.
Paula had pulled the door open and had walked out. She paused and turned her round. She took two steps forward. Her brows furrowed confusingly.
“What did you say?” She asked eagerly.
“I choose you.” I repeated sternly.
A smug smile appeared on her face. She quickly walked towards my chair. I’m seriously going to regret this but I have no choice.
“You really mean it?” She asked, though be a little desperate.
I heaved and tapped my lap. Her smile widened. She didn’t hesitate and sat down on my lap. She kissed my lips. Was she trying to put me in trouble again?
“You do know you left the door open?” I pointed out.
Paula glanced at the door and then me. She maintained her smile.
“Who cares if we are seen? Isn’t like people don’t know about us anyway? They can gossip about this too.” She said plainly.
“It’s just for tonight.” I said coldly, looking for her.
She groaned annoyingly and smiled at me. She stroked my hair.
“Fine. Just tonight. Tomorrow you can run off and continue being the perfect husband for your cupcake.” She scoffed.
Seemed more like sarcasm. I heaved tiredly. I stretched out my hand and got my phone. I had barely caught a glimpse of the phone screen when it was taken out of my hand. Paula activated the screen’s time-out.
“You belong to me now until sunrise tomorrow. I’ll give it back to you when you stick to your word.” She said as she got off my lap.
Paula stood in front of me and winked.
“Just don’t answer any of my calls. I’ll be watching you.” I said airily, picking up the glass on the desk.
“Trust me, I won’t. See you later.” She said cheerily as she walked through the open door. She flashed a smile at me and closed the door.
Glad that’s over. I picked up the telephone and dialled Daisy. It rang but no one answered. I kept back the telephone. I’ll probably call back later.
