She looked up. The room feels chilly even with the air conditioner off. She sighs. She wanted to sleep. Heck, she needed to sleep. She has to go to work tomorrow. It is already three in the morning and she is on the bed, trying not to shift her eyes to the corner of the room. She can see ghosts. Sometimes, they look decent. Sometimes, they look like hell just breaking loose. This one particular lady that has always been inside her house, she didn't look malicious. Just like a human being. Just like Aria. She didn't want much. Just a cup of coffee. …and a piece of cake. Tonight, she forgot. And now she can't sleep because the ghost is staring at her. She can feel the eyes fixated on her. If she ever moved slightly, the ghost would move too. She is a very clingy ghost. Aria wasn't born like this. She had an accident a few years ago, and when she wakes up from a coma–everything just changes. She was going insane when she saw so many disfigured shadows inside her room, even in the hospital hall. What's even worse is that…when they know Aria can see them, they just smile. Not the pretty one. But now, maybe she got a little bit used to it. She might have screamed, but only because she was startled. Not scared. Maybe. She sighs. The lady cried, sobbing like a kid. Wailing even. Aria had enough. She sits on the bed. “I’ll make one americano and I think I have some mochi puff in the fridge. Is that good enough, lady?” The lady smiles, already anticipating. Aria huffed. “My mom was right. I am crazy.” She walked to the kitchen, her head was already starting to hurt. She has a shift incoming at eight and now her lady ghost just wouldn't let her sleep. And now look who’s smiling? The lady ghost sat on the countertop sipping her cold americano at three in the morning. Another sigh came out. I never signed up for this. . . 7.15am. She is already at the hospital. Ironically, she is a nurse. She works at the place where ghosts stay almost permanently and daily. “Here, coffee.” Aria rolled her eyes. That– “Take that away from me.” Joan frowns. “You can function without this now?” Aria scoffed. Yeah, apparently I can't. If I just bought one for the lady, I wouldn't look like shit now. “Just don't feel like it. Maybe matcha…yup, matcha it is.” They walked inside the tall building, the ambulance sounded wilding at the bay, and it was already a busy day. She can tell. At the entrance, there was an uncle, probably in his 40s, holding onto a bouquet of red roses. The thing about ghosts is that–their feet don't touch the ground, and they kind of fade a little. Almost human like, but faded…like clouds. Aria used to be scared seeing them. But nowadays, they make her curious. What actually happened? But she doesn't want to be involved, because ghosts also like to spread rumors. Once they know someone can see them, it will be all over the place. Aria wants to avoid that. . . Aria had a busy day. The aunt in room three needed her diapers changed every half an hour. She was having a little bowel obstruction earlier, and then everything just let loose now. An uncle in the next room also needed a lot today, everything was painful to him. Suddenly everyone is hurting more than usual today. She is in line at the cafeteria for lunch, her body is no longer hers. She can already see the cafeteria aunty’s ghost wandering in the kitchen. Glaring at everyone like they ruined her recipes that she made from scratch. “Looking alive today, Aria?” Aria laughs. “Yes, couldn't be more alive than this.” Brett came behind her, also holding the tray. “I heard it's beef soup on the menu today.” Aria couldn't care much. She just wanted her tummy filled. “I guess. It smells like it.” “Joan?” Aria shrugged her shoulders. “Probably still in the OR.” “Did you hear? About the new director’s son?” Aria frowns. No? I am still thinking if I should buy buttercreme or crepe cake for the lady at home. “Why?” “Heard he is in general. Your floor.” Aria smiles, business smile. “Then he would come. When the time is right.” Brett smacked Aria’s shoulder slightly. “Come on, gossip with me.” Aria scoffed. “Maybe after a meal. I am famished.” Brett pout. “Everyone said he looks like some kind of movie actor, handsome, tall and buff.” Brett giggles. “Definitely my type.” Aria frowns. “Thought you are straight.” Brett nodded. “I am.” “You have a wife at home, Brett.” Brett smiles. “I don't date Kpop idols, that doesn't mean I can't like them.” Aria nodded. Weird logic, but…okay. “Logic.” Brett nodded, smiling almost proudly. Aria just sighs. Nobody is normal here. Be it human. Or ghosts.
