“Hello, hello. How are you, Fari?” Someone beamed happily.
She opened the door and gestured the visitor to take a seat.
The greeting, it came from her friend Carys.
She just suddenly appeared at their doorstep bringing her things and a plastic bag containing all of her “goods”. It is what the term she used to call all of the snacks she bought.
It made Fari thought that her friend must've put it into her grocery basket without even thinking. These is a variety. Too much are put in here. And it doesn't even match her friend's taste.
Well she haven't seen her friends for a while. Maybe she went to a sudden realization that she wanted these. She can't help but to frown at what she saw inside of it. A bunch of snacks which are definitely not the kind of food a normal person will eat.
“Are you sure these are the ones you wanted to eat today, Carys?” She can't help but to blurt it out. There's no way she'll eat these. But of course, she held her tongue to prevent herself from saying it.
“Of course. You can pick what you want to have in there.” Carys responded while she's busy rummaging into her bag searching for something.
Fari felt weirded out by the way her friend is behaving. One second she's smiling and now she's staring at the insides of her bag having the eyes that screamed murder as she looked for something.
“Oh. Here it is.” This time she raised her voice and said it in a joyful way. The kind where one got a light bulb moment. That's the kind of looked that is displayed on Carys face right now.
Fariah's eyes narrowed at what Carys is holding. She moved closer, squinting her eyes to observe the thing she is holding. Her eyeballs went big. She looked shock and put her hand on her mouth to cover it.
“Is that what I think it is, Carys?” She said after recovering from her moment of astonishment.
Her friend is still engrossed too. Carys happily staring at the thing and waved it. She's swirling the thing in the air and she looked proud as she stared at Fari.
“Yes.” She muttered breaking the barrier. “This is the reason I came here. I wanted to test this today and I want my best friend to be the witness for the hunch I've been wanting to have a confirmation.”
Fari felt happy for her friend too. She went to reached for her arms. “Come. It's time for you to test it out.”
“I cannot wait to confirm whether it's true, Fari.”
“That you might be pregnant? Well, you have to get inside the bathroom to see it yourself Carys.” She's smiling as she replied to her friend.
She waited outside the door. Until she heard a squeal from the inside. That made a knitting feeling inside her chest. Worry strike her face.
“Carys. Are you okay?”
She heard the click of the door knob. An open space was made enough for her to go take a look. She peaked inside. And saw her friend with tears on her face. But those were happy tears.
“It's positive. I'm pregnant, Fari.”
Happy squeals from the both of them are the noises that filled the bathroom. They head outside and went to the kitchen as Carys requested to open the Stuffs she bought because her stomach started growling after it.
She leaned, fingers crossed as she put it under her chin. “But how do you know that you're having your little one?” She said because she was curious on how someone can sense that there's a baby growing inside her.
Carys snatch a banana and started peeling it. “Well-someone told me in a dream that I was pregnant. I didn't mind it at first because I thought it's absurd. But then,my body started acting weird. I suddenly felt nauseous.”
She took a mouthful bite of the banana. “I started puking, you know daily early vomit. Then I remember what Mom told me back then about pregnancy stuffs. And... ” She paused for the second time before chewing the fruit. Her hands seize the ketchup that was placed on the kitchen table.
Fari's eyes went wider this time when she captures the sight of her friend putting a ketchup, drizzling it on top of the banana.
Horrified Fari cannot believe what she is seeing. She just openly stared at her friend using her wide eyes. Her ability to speak somehow vanish for a while.
Carys stared at her friend and put the fruit away from her mouth. Pausing another bite she's about to take. “Oh my. Have I traumatized you, Fari? You looked completely terrified.”
Fari admitted to herself it scared her for a few seconds. She still cannot believe that her friend have a knack of eating bananas with ketchup poured over it. It's shocking.
She cleared her throat before speaking to her. “My gosh, Carys. Like... How?”
Carys finally took a bite of the banana before tossing the peel on the bin. “It's called pregnancy cravings, Fari. You'll get to know the feeling too someday. When you're pregnant with Wyn's child.”
Crimson tinted her cheeks after hearing her friend's sudden admition. “It's too early for us to reach that kind of level, Carys.” She answered. She haven't even ask Wyn if he's ready to have one.
"Have you told Ray about that?” She asked Carys. Who shook her head as her way of replying to what she asked. Her friend was busy eating. And she's chewing a bunch of gummies this time. Putting a mouthful of bears inside her mouth.
“That fast? You devoured the whole pack in just one go?”
Carys hummed in response before opening another packet. Her hand extended offering the snack to her. “You want some?”
“No thanks.” Those are not bears. The one she opened contained a bunch of worms this time. Fari stared at it before staring at her friend. Shaking her head she went to the fridge.
Her hands reach for the apples. She got two of it. She closed the fridge before walking towards the kitchen sink to wash them off. Peeling the apples she shove a piece inside her mouth.
"That's a crunch.” She uttered and place a plate in front of Carys.
Carys munch a piece of the apple too. “You're right. It has that crunch.”
“Back to my question again. Does Ray knows about it? Your pregnancy hunches?” It's funny how it's easy for her to mimicked her friend's most used word of the day. Pregnancy.
"Nope. I didn't tell him anything. Although he's worried for my health. Told me that we should book a doctor's appointment because he was worried.”
Fari nodded her head. “So it's a surprise?”
“Yes. I'm planning to surprise him.” Her gaze suddenly went searching. “Do you have hummus?”
She stood off from being seated on the chair and went searching for it in one of the cabinets. She handed it to her friend who suddenly grinned at her cheekily.
“I'm being supportive in here.” She said after seeing the look on her friend's face.
“You're the best.” Carys drizzled it on the the piece of apple she's holding. "Here. Try this. This is the combination I like these past few days.”
Fari loved a good challenge. She took a bite and her expression suddenly lights up."This is good.”
“Yap.”
A sound of the door being shut made them both stop they're pregnancy snacking session.
“Love. I'm home.”
Relief came inside her heart. He's finally home. “We're here.” She said in a voice enough for Wyn to hear her.
Wyn smiled at his girl. Carys is here too. His eyes went to Fari's hands. She's holding an apple and... His pupils grew big. HUMMUS.
He went to give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Not minding what he just saw. Carys' smile went big as she stared at them.
“Aww. You guys are so sweet.”
Wyn excused himself and head upstairs to change his clothes. He went down and head to the bathroom downstairs. He wants to check if he left his razor that he used this morning. As he closed the door. His eyes stared down at the sink.
“A pregnancy test?” He asked himself. A certain kick nudged his chest. “Fari.” He whispered to himself. He hurriedly went towards the kitchen. Went to Fari and pulled her closer to his chest. Planting soft kisses on her cheeks he was happy to mouth his “thank you” to her.
Fari giggled while Wyn is still giving her soft kisses. “Wyn.”
“Are you hiding something from me?” He said before pulling her again in a hug.
It took a while before Fari can processed what Wyn told her. “No love.”
“You're pregnant.” He said it whole his hands are on her cheeks. He hold her hand and carried her in his arms. Lifted her body in the air to spin her around before putting her feet right back on the floor. Wyn is happy.
Fari made a few blinks. A kindled expression of a new look from Wyn made her confuse. Where does he get his idea that she's pregnant?
“Sorry, sweethums. I think you're holding my pregnancy test that I took a while ago.” Carys said from behind.
Wyn withdrew his embrace and stared at Carys. Before his gaze settled back on Fari once again. “Ohhhh. I thought it's my girl who's pregnant.”
My girl. That made her heart leap. She's waiting for it to do some somersaults. She's bombarded with feelings of love. “Wyn's is just. Just an amazing human being.” She said silently, said it in her head.
She finally has an clear answer in her head now. It's plainly obvious in sight from the way she saw how happy Wyn was when he thought she was pregnant. It's the only thing she's waiting to see from him before she can conclude that they're both are on the same page in terms of having to make a decision of wanting a child in the future.
“That's why you thought that it was her? Haven't it occurred to your mind that it might be me who is pregnant?” Carys retorted after hearing Wyn's explanation.
“Why are you still eating the banana again? Carys please, stop it.” Fari begged. “I think you have enough potassium intake already.”
Carys just gave out a laugh in return. Stared at her friend, looking at her as if she said something funny. “Oh, honey. Don't worry about me. I am fine.”
Wyn gaze at the two of them. Silently wanting to try what Carys is eating. She made it looked like it somewhat taste delicious. Ignoring the warning hazard his mind told him, his hand reached for the banana and started to follow what Carys did to her food.
They both stopped fussing around. Carys and Fari both gave Wyn a look. Carys looked proud. Fari just gaped at him, unable to try to come up with something to say to him. None of the girls say anything not until they heard a ding from outside.
“I'll get it.” Carys chirped before she head out leaving the two of them in a staring competition.
“It's good.” Wyn stated.
She stared at him right after he added another compliment on how a banana with a ketchup on it taste good. Wyn's comment made her think that she'll give it a try for herself to check whether Carys and him are telling the truth about it.
"Want to try this?” Wyn asked.
Fari nodded her head. Wyn moved his hands and extended the banana in front of her mouth. He was trying to feed it to her. She contemplated for a bit before taking a bite.
"I kinda like how it tastes.”
Wyn smiled. “So you want your own banana with a ketchup drizzle?”
She smiled at him, after nodding her head. Wyn handed her one and she happily ate it.
"Are you pregnant?”
They both stilled from enjoying their moment when they heard a familiar voice that isn't from Carys.
