Chapter 13 Jirah Lost Her Job

Before heading to his assistant, Terrence said his goodbyes to the interlocutors. He noticed that Jirah's eyes had tears falling down her cheeks as he neared her. The woman's eyes looked puffy, and her nose was reddened as well.

"Jirah, why? Did you see me catching a glimpse conversing with another person? Didn't I say that you wait fo—"
"No need. I just want your permission. I want to go back to New York."

The actor sighed and hated what the assistant said. Why would Jirah leave at that time when the actor needed him? Well, the man couldn't understand why the woman's decision was like that, so he had no choice but to ask her."
"Why are you leaving? No, Jirah, I need you here. I really need you here," the actor insisted.
"But—"

"Stop it! Remember this: if you insist on leaving at this moment, I have no choice but to fire you."

Tears welled up in Jirah's eyes again. She wanted to tell him the reason, but her mind tried to keep her mouth shut.

"Boss, please, I need to go home," she pleaded again to the actor.

Terrence ignored her and returned to his position. He just turned to the woman and gestured one more time, "I need you here."

Jirah had nothing to do but sit on the bench and cry. How come she had to choose between her boss and her dad? If Mangxie had just been there, maybe her boss would have allowed her to go home.

She just lowered her head, and closed her eyes at the same time, calling, "God, please watch over my decision right now. I hope my boss doesn't make it true by dismissing me if I choose my father before him."

She burst into tears before deciding to leave  her obligation to the actor.
At the hospital where Jirah’s father was admitted, bewildered paramedics quickly treated the patient. Gwen, and Jirah's mother just peeked out of the emergency room. It was obvious from the glass window what was being done inside.

After thirty minutes, the doctor came out to inform the family of the result of the operation.

"Are you the patient's wife?" the doctor asked Jirah's mother.

"Yes," the wife replied.
Jirah's mother's face appeared to be worried and she was eager to hear from the doctor's mouth the result of the operation.

"Madam, the operation was successful, but your husband lost a lot of blood. Prepare the blood needed for transfusion. "

"Yes doc. I'm willing to be tested for my husband's blood transfusion. My daughter isn't here yet. She is still going. And Doc, if the blood transfusion is done, does that mean he's safe? "

"I'm not sure yet, but we'll do everything. Right now, I'm still waiting for the results of his laboratory."

"All right doc."

Jirah's mother simply nodded, as if she was still hopeful. She was still crying, as she stood outside the room, gazing at her husband. Gwen rubbed her shoulder to soothe her.

Jirah's mother was afterwards summoned to the blood testing facility to have her blood tested. It took five minutes for them to receive the results of the blood tests. Unfortunately, she was unable to donate due to some medical issue involving her blood. She couldn't give because she had an appendix operation last year.

These words disheartened Jirah's mother. Gwen, on the other hand, was not a match for the patient's blood type. That patient's genetic makeup is AB negative, which is really an uncommon blood type, and the hospital's supply was nearly depleted.

They approached the hospital's blood station, wondering if they would be given the type of blood that the patient needed.

"I'm sorry, the last bag of AB negative blood type was transfused recently. You must find a donor if you eagerly need it," said the in-charge at the blood station.

Gwen remained standing, contacting someone on her phone, and Jirah's mother sat on the bench, depressed. Later, a doctor arrived and advised them that they needed to act quickly so that the patient might have blood transfused. The man's life would be at risk if they couldn't find an AB negative blood donor right away.

Gwen called all of the blood banks at the various hospitals, but there was still no AB negative blood type available. Jirah's mother was becoming increasingly concerned about the situation. The out-of-breath lady came soon after. Jirah, from Texas, arrived on time and inquired about her father's condition.

"Mom," she said while hugging her mother.

"How's dad?" Jirah added.

"Dear, he needs AB negative blood. We don't have a blood match for him."

Jirah glanced down at her and dashed into the blood testing room. Her mother was astonished by the woman's abrupt decision. She also had no idea that her daughter had an AB negative genetic makeup.

The blood testing was over and the findings came out as well. Her blood was capable of being transfused to her father. The blood transfusion was performed immediately and was successful afterwards.

After several hours, the doctor came out with the findings of the laboratory as well as the condition of the head of the family.

"His whole body is normal now. No internal organs were damaged except for the CT scan in his head. There were nerves in his head that malfunctioned due to severe shock from that accident. So far, his reaction is still being observed. There are only two possibilities we have to wait for. Either he may be paralyzed or he may have amnesia. It means you are his only hope for whatever happens in the future," explained the doctor.

Upon hearing such possibilities, Jirah's mother's entire body collapsed. Due to the obvious severe suffering she and her mother were in, she cried and embraced each other. It hurts, but they accept it rather than lose their loved ones for good. Fortunately, her father was not hurt in the said tragedy.
After two weeks...

Jirah was feeling better, and she was able to leave her father, who was disabled, behind. She intended to return to work in the hope that her boss might accept her again. She swallowed her shyness in front of the actor because they were short of cash. Her savings, as well as her father's, were completely depleted by her father's hospital bill and maintenance drugs.

It was also been two weeks since she had no income because she took care of her father. She could not find the money for her father's reward from the writing contest, because all of her father's belongings had been burned in the accident. Everything her dad had worked for just disappeared in an instant. That accident ruined her dad’s dreams.

Jirah had already gone to work. When she arrived, she immediately knocked on the door of the actor’s office.

"Tok, tok, tok," the sound of her knock.

She was immediately opened by a woman familiar with her sight.

"Aaliyah? W-why are you here?" Jirah stammered to the actress.

The actress just smiled and let Jirah enter the office. When the woman entered, she was shocked to see that her boss had a new assistant.

"What’s wrong with you, Jirah? Are you surprised?" Aaliyah said.

"What’s the meaning of this? Will Terrence easily replace me?" Jirah said.

Jirah couldn't help herself but to cry with tears in her eyes. The actress in front of her just stood with a smile while teasing the lady. At the same time, a man approached them.

"Aaliyah, what's happening here?" the man asked.

Jirah pulled her head back, tears running down her cheeks. The man had no idea what was going on. He had just arrived from the conference as part of his busy schedule as an actor. Since he saw the lady who had just cried, he didn't even appear to be affected by what had happened the previous days until that time. He expected the lady to be upset about losing her job because the actor had threatened to fire her if she disobeyed his rules.

"Boss, I'm sorry but... you don't have to do this to me."

"Jirah, I couldn't understand you. And wait, why are you guys here? Aaliyah, are you supposed to prepare yourself in your room?
