Clueless, she stood up and left the man who breathed out thankfully after hearing it wasn’t him that has to do whatever task it is. “The Captain is looking serious today. Good luck!” he mouthed before the door closed. Eve is walking in a larger and faster pace that she almost run in able to catch up with her. “What’s the matter? Are we in trouble?” she uttered after getting meters away from the guards. “We aren’t, but we will be if you failed me on this one.” She smiled, thinking that the woman is just joking around. But, she remained expressionless. “So, what is it?” They stopped in front of the room that once belong to their Heads. It will be their first time to get in there and if she gave an unreasonable reason to Lux they will be questioned for doing so. “What are we going to do here, Eve?” Eula asked hesitantly and stayed by the entrance. “Come in.” “I hate this feeling, Eve. Are we doing something illegal?” “Rule number one, the Captain is always right. Rule number two, refer to number one,” Eve recited to the rules given to them upon pledging for the positions assigned to them. Eula got in knowing that she can’t just say no without knowing what she is going to say no for. “What I have to do here, Captain?” “Get the former Captain’s and Heads’ personal belongings; and take it to my office.” “I-I can’t do that, Eve! We can’t just get their things without asking permission from the organization!” “Who said that we’ll let them know?” Eula shook her head. “This isn’t right, Eve.” “Trust me, they will never know about this.” She went to the door and opened it. “Deliver it right away. I need those today.” Eula stood still for minutes, just looking at the closed door. Thinking whether to do the order or disobey her Captain’s words. “Anne?” she called and faced the tables. ‘Yes?’ “Do something. I need to get things done here.” ‘Go ahead!’ “Thank you.” She doesn’t understand why Eve had to do it secretly, but whatever it is, she is sure it has something to do with the things that have been bothering her since they got back from the mission. “What are we going to do with these, Anne?” ‘You better ask the Captain, Eula.’ She nodded and calmed down. “She might be thinking to take these to their homes, too,” she convinced to herself as she nervously continued piling up their belongings. — Eula turned around in front of Eve, showing how her hair looks good with her hair clip, while handing out the documents asked for her to take to the Captain. “What are you doing?” the woman query. “Didn’t you noticed?!” The other one scanned her. “Is there something I have to know today?” Eve eyed the files with itching hands, wanting to check it right away. “Well, I am just showing off this little gift from my little Lili. Can’t wait to see her!” Eula flipped her shoulder-length hair. The Captain laugh as she realized what the woman was actually trying to tell her. “You’re creeping me out!” She paused and examined the woman from head to toe and vice versa. “You still looking like a man wearing those outfits. But nevertheless, no doubt, you’re still as gorgeous as you have ever been. So, it was Lili who gave you that.” She then smiled and rest her chin on her intertwined palms, still eyeing the person in front of her. “Yes. It was her. Though she did it unconsciously. She was just a baby back then,” Eula dreamingly replied, obviously happy to remember about that moment. She took a long deep breath and get the pack of cigarettes she’s hiding inside her packet. “I was given this by Epharil. But unlike you, never did I tried to use even one of this.” She showed to the sticks. “Because you don’t smoke. That’s okay. She’ll understand that. At least you’re keeping it.” “Nope. Not that I am not into it. Well, partly yes. If I wanted to, I can. But you know, once I used it, I think I’d lost her forever, too.” “Ashes can be stored, and so are memories.” “Speaking of memories, is this all you have found?” she asked, referring to the things she got for her. “Yes, Captain. What are you going to do with those by the way? This is kind of invading their privacy. Knowing them, they will be furiously mad to know that the new Captain is peeking on their private matters.” “I need this. We need this,” she responded and started flipping the pages. “Was it Epharil’s?” “Yes.” She’s just thankful that they didn’t lose Anne. Without her, they have no other way to open their vaults. “What was written on it?” The Head inquired and went beside her. “Her last will and testament. So, this is what she had wanted to do.” She nodded as she read the entirety of the papers. “We’ll fulfill it, Eve.” Eula tapped her shoulder. “We will.” She smiled and read Eulejius’ diary next. “We’re sorry, Sir.” She uttered before opening the journal. “Eula—” She closed it the moment they have read the first lines. They looked at each other, thinking the same thing. “It is something I think we’ll be having a hard time to fulfill, Eula.” “Are we allowed to get meddled with his work?” “I don’t know, but I think we have to inform them at least.” She referred to his buddies. “Should we keep it just between the two of us or—” “What do you think our Heads would do if they’re the ones in our place?” She cut her off. “They’ll keep it themselves.” “Indeed, Eula. Promise me you won’t tell anyone about this.” “Not even to Euno?” “We’ll inform him about it, but not yet today.” The next minutes of their conversation went completely serene. They’re just staring at each other, both are thinking what is the best thing to do. “We still have thirteen days to stay here. If these men knows about Eulejius’ date of release, then, they’ll be expecting him to report a day or few days after his mission.” She looked at the journal. “And they’ll be expecting a crucial report. Do you think Eulejius have found one?” Eula gulped as she is hoping that the man did. “We will never know unless he stated it here.” “Then read it—or better yet, I think it would be best if we would just let them read it themselves.” “Why it seems like we have to know its contents, too?” “It is not for us to know, Eve. Don’t get indulge in knowing more about it.” Eula stood up and crossed her arms to express her opposition. She raised her hands. “Okay, okay. I won’t. Let’s proceed to Captain Eulysis’ things, then.” She gave up. She was taken back to see that the man has the same design of journal like Eulejius’ while Eula get stunned and interchangeably glanced at her and to the journal. “Please tell me I am just imagining things, Captain,” the woman uttered. “I should be the one saying that, Eula,” she replied as she tremblingly unfolds the first page. It took no minute for her to remember how their heads used to be so close, those meetings that they have conducted secretly. “Now, tell me, Eula. Are we still not going to do something after seeing these? They were sent here, not because they wanted to. They are supposed to go home. Yet, we don’t have even just their ashes to send back to their loved ones.” The woman smiled and sat down on the seat in front of her. “Never mind what we have talked about previously. I know exactly what you want to do now. Go ahead, I will be your aid.” That made her feel comfortable. All they have to do is to be extra careful with gathering informations. “Let’s make our remaining days here to be even more worthwhile, then.”
