“The last time I checked, I was still the Beta of the Paragon pack,” Morgan responded with a laugh. I gazed intently at the man standing before me. Eunice’s father is the alpha of the Paragon pack by the way I understand it, so I expect that their beta is the same age as him. “Your too young to be a Beta?” I couldn’t bear to ask while not removing the line on my forehead. “Same with Bradley. My father is the previous Beta of our pack. Fortunately, he died a year ago, so I took over his position,” Morgan explained, while not taking away his eyes from me. “I’m sure the pressure is great, especially the previous Beta of the Paragon pack was famous for being strong,” I commented while finishing my drinks. We talked for a while, the sound of our laughter filling the room. Listening to his stories was a pleasure, and I could hear the emotion in his voice as he spoke. We had just stopped when my phone rang. It’s my mother, asking me to come to the mansion and bring Morgan with me. “My mother instructed me to bring you along with me. So, bring your luggage to your room first,” I said to Morgan after ending the call. Morgan and I set off on our journey toward the Manor, the wind whistling around us. While on the road, we continue to talk. So, when we arrived at the mansion, we got along pretty well, as if we had known each other for a long time. “Seems Bradley’s packs are intimidating like him,” Morgan murmured as we walked toward the back, where everyone was present. “Really? Is Bradley really scary?” I curiously asked. Everyone fears him, but I see nothing scary unless he’s angry. Between Bradley and me, his behavior is so drastically different that it's almost as if he is the one with the split personality, not me. Morgan gave me a meaningful smile. “Bradley arrived in our city when he was sixteen. Too young to be an alpha. That’s why his capabilities are underrated by all. But there was an event that changed their perspective towards him. An assemblage of villains enters the school where the fresh alphas learn. Almost everyone is injured. But Bradley ... He annihilates the ten scoundrels that invaded the training ground.” “That’s absurd! I don’t believe you,” I responded to Morgan, thinking his just teasing me. “Why do you think my alpha allowed his daughter to go with Bradley?” Morgan responds. I couldn’t answer because he was right. The alpha of the Paragon pack is frightening and ruthless. Trusting his only child to Bradley means he depends on him that much. And probably, he also wanted Bradley to be his son-in-law. ------- When we reached the back of the mansion, Morgan and I looked at each other. We didn’t expect that the ‘picnic’ my mother referred to would include almost the whole pack. “Leila, this way!” My mother screamed while waving her hand. She was at the table with Eunice and Bradley. The councilors were also present and obviously enjoyed talking to Eunice. “Hmm, this is fun,” Morgan commented, so I looked at him with astonishment. Then I followed his gaze. What could be the underlying issue between these two? I thought they were friends? I uttered, seeing the fury on Bradley’s face as while glaring at Morgan. “You said you are on good terms with Bradley, but why do I feel like his glare throwing a knife at you?” I commented while approaching them. Morgan looked at me and whispered, “That’s also what I wanted to know,” then jokingly pinched my cheek. “Mom, I noticed the gleeful energy radiating from the pack as they enjoyed themselves. What’s the occasion?” I asked as soon as we got closer to the group. “Well, the council saw Eunice last time and wanted to give her a proper greeting since our pack is very indebted to them for accepting our alpha in their city,” my mother explained while helping me to sit down. “That’s unnecessary. In fact, the Paragon pack is indebted to your alpha, Bradley,” Morgan replied and smirked at Bradley. “Hmm, really? We are clueless because our alpha is too secretive. In fact, he didn’t mention about Eunice,” the council said, surprised. “There is nothing to talk about. Eunice, visiting the city is not official,” Bradley unbothered remarks. “For now, it’s not official, but the next time I visit your city- “ Eunice didn’t finish her sentence; she just smiled meaningfully at everyone. Bradley ignores Eunice’s remarks because he focuses his attention on Morgan sitting next to me. “Looks like my little Leila found a new friend,” Bradley commented. His glare at me gave me a chill all over my core. “My little Leila?” Morgan responds, raising his eyebrow. “That’s his endearment to me.” I answered quickly, “My brother and mom sometimes call me that, too.” “Nice. Then can I call you my little Leila as well?” Morgan retorted jokingly. “You call her that and you will die,” Bradley remarks, which makes my eyes widen in shock. Even the others present who heard were stunned, not knowing whether to make a joke of Bradley’s declaration. Because they all knew that he wasn’t joking around. “Ha Ha Ha, Bradley, don’t bully the Beta of Paragon’s pack. If he admires your sister Leila, it’s going to be beneficial for both packs,” Eunice asserted with a broad smile. “Hmm, that’s an excellent suggestion, but of course it’s all depends on my little Leila,” Morgan responded, and ignored Bradley’s threat. I saw him wink, so I knew Morgan was quipping. “Hmm, let me think about it since my mother and Bradley are having trouble with whom I will marry,” I jokingly responded. “Yeah, the council mentioned that you’re having an offer with the alphas of different packs to be their Luna,” Eunice agreed with me, while nodding. “Hmm, with your beauty, I’m not surprised,” Morgan remarks as he raises his arm to rest on my shoulder. Morgan's arm was left strained as Bradley's grip was still firm, and then he dropped to the floor before it could touch my shoulder. The sudden event shocked everyone. The cheerful atmosphere earlier was enveloped by the strange coldness coming from Bradley. “And what makes you think you are qualified to’s husband?” Bradley’s voice thunders, leaving everyone speechless.
