Chapter 89 Brewing Feelings

Nora's POV
I smiled as I awoke first, my smile spreading wider as the sun trickled into the hospital room and landed on Damon’s face, illuminating his facial features and making him the most beautiful sight I had ever set my eyes on.
I watched him, sleeping soundly and curled up with me on the hospital bed. I couldn't believe he was right there with me. Till I fell asleep, I was on the clouds and kept wondering if I was dreaming.
If I had imagined everything that happened.
Alas, I hadn't and it sent my heart into another round of excited rollercoaster.
I knew that it wasn't going to be easy being in love with Damon as openly as I wanted to but I was ready to dare the consequences. I didn't give a damn about what Cara, James and Sasha had to say or what they felt. As long as Damon was with him, I was fine.
I lifted my hand, intending to trace his face when his eyes popped open. I gasped in surprise, dropping my hand hastily. He stared at me sleepily and a slow smile curled on his face as he got aware of his surroundings.
“Hey, beautiful.” He mumbled, his voice husky from sleep.
“Hi,” I replied shyly, my body going through all shades of emotions that I couldn't put to words.
He noticed my hand lying flatly by my side and realized what it was that I wanted to do. My heart knocked against my ribcage as he picked my hand up and traced it softly on his cheeks. My breath hitched in my throat at his action, my heart thudding fast as my skin moved on his.
He seemed to know what he was doing to me as a a slow seductive smile popped on his face. He sat up right, leaned in to close the distance between us.
I felt suddenly self-conscious. “Isn't it too early?” I leaned away, not wanting to directly remind him that I hadn't brushed.
He seemed disappointed that I moved away but quickly shrugged it off.
His eyes twinkled at me. “You want us to take it slow? Have you forgotten that we have moved beyond that?”
I blushed as images of our lovemaking flashed in my mind. “Don't be naughty, Damon.” I swatted at his arms.
He chuckled.
I cleared my throat. “I have a confession to make.”
If we were sharing secrets and bonding, we needed to do it right.
“Is there another murder that you want to confess to?” He smirked.
I shook my head, amusement shining in my eyes despite the fear lodged deeply in my heart at what I was about to share.
He sensed my trepidation and took my hand in his, rubbing my fingers gently. “You can tell me whatever the problem is, Nora.”
I knew he would be mad but I forced the words out regardless.
“I read your diary the other day.” I confessed, closing my eyes and wincing as I waited for his explosive reaction.
I squeezed open one eye when all I got was silence and saw him staring at me. His expression was blank, making my heart thud more with fear. Was this the calm before the storm?
I sighed, my heart kicking furiously as I waited for his reaction. As it was at the moment, I feared that I might suffer a heart attack if I had to wonder for long what he wanted to do.
“Damon,” I called softly when I couldn't endure the suspense anymore.
We should get this over with quickly.
He sighed. “I suspected that you did actually.”
“Why didn't you do anything then?”
“Because you said you didn't and I wanted to trust you.”
“Are you mad at me now?”
He shook his head. “Why did you tell me? You could have made it your secret.”
“I remembered you used to draw when you were touching your face with my finger and I wanted to ask about your art. There is no way I can ask about it without confessing that I read about it in your diary.”
He chuckled. “May your curiosity not land you in trouble.”
I shrugged. “Moreover, I wanted to come clean. I want there to be no secret between us.”
“Okay.”
“Is there anything you are keeping from me?”
He shook his head. I smiled and threw myself at him, hugging him tightly in relief.
We were going to be fine.
“When are you going to start drawing again?”
He sighed and shifted uncomfortably on the bed. “Nora,”
“I will like to see you draw you again.” I encouraged him. “Maybe you can start by drawing me.” I smiled and batted my eyelashes at him.
“Maybe,” he agreed.
Reluctance was evident in his voice but I would take the agreement like that.
The door swung open and the doctor walked in. I felt self-conscious about being in his arms in the presence of another person and wanted to move away but he held me down, forcing me to stay glued to him.
The doctor briefly glanced at us before looking away, a smile on his face.
“Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Bennett.” He greeted.
We replied.
“How do you feel today, Mrs. Bennett?” He asked, moving closer.
“Never been better.” I replied, gasping as I realized what I said.
He had a knowing smile on his lips but thankfully didn't comment on my slip up. He checked my vitals and nodded to himself.
“You have gotten better than you were yesterday, however, we need to monitor you for two more weeks for the broken bones to heal.”
It was odd that I hadn't felt any pain at all.
“Okay,” I nodded.
“Are you staying with her all through?” He turned to Damon.
I knew before he responded what Damon's response would be. He might have confessed his love to me but he wasn't someone who would let his heart influence his brain and affect his business, not when he was trying to fix it.
And I loved him for that as well.
“I will have to go to work but I will be here everyday. Don't be shocked when you see us sharing the bed at night.”
The doctor grinned. “I will tell the nurse to wheel another bed into the room so you can be comfortable when you both sleep at night.”
“No, a bed is okay.”
“She needs rest for her bones to properly and quickly heal.” The doctor objected.
“My bones aren't complaining.” I said.
The doctor smiled. “I'm sure they aren't, Mrs. Bennett. Let me leave you two alone then since I've seen that you are fine. I've got rounds to make.”
I felt so full with happiness that I could burst. The doctor’s tease wasn't even enough to dampen it. I curled into Damon’s arms, content to stay forever in his arms.
Life couldn't have been any better.
If only I knew, I should have been prepared for the worst.
