Chapter Twelve

The next day, I woke up earlier than Aaron. He wasn't letting me go last night, so I stayed beside him. He was so clingy and snoring so loud. I couldn't sleep at all. He must be so tired. I heard that sad people usually sleep longer. I should make him a hangover soup. He was so wasted last night and was talking a lot of nonsense.
Thanks to Hellen for teaching me how to cook. I learned a lot from her. I realized that meat is better eaten cooked than raw. We werewolves don't mind the smell of blood and bland taste of meat. It's even better.
I know that Hellen found me strange the first time we met, but she still treated me like a daughter even though she knew nothing about my past. She was the kindest woman I've ever met. To repay her kindness, I should fulfill her last request.
I went to the kitchen and prepared the soup. There are enough ingredients in the fridge, so I used them. I also made coffee for myself. I fell in love with its relaxing smell, easing my aching head a little bit.
A few moments later, I heard approaching footsteps. I know it's Aaron. I could see that sleepy look on his face as he groped his way to the kitchen. He went to the sink and washed his face. "What's that pleasant smell?" he asked.
"Morning. I cooked something for you," I said.
"Really?" He turned off the tap and wiped his face with a towel. A bright smile appeared on his face.
"Yup." I scooped a ladle of soup from the pot and put it in a bowl. "Here. You can try this. It's still hot, so take it slowly."
"Thanks." He accepted the bowl. "You'd make a good wife," he murmured before going to the table and sitting there.
"Did you say something?" I asked, pretending not to hear him, though I find it difficult to hide the blushing of my face. I've never thought once in my life about becoming his wife. I'm just doing what I'm supposed to do, fulfilling my promise to Hellen.
"Nothing," he replied and continued eating his soup.
I sat down in the chair on the other end of the table and drank my coffee that had already turned cold. I don't really feel good, and I keep sneezing. It seems like I have a cold.
"You look tired. Didn't you sleep last night?" Aaron asked.
If only he knew he was the reason why I have these dark circles under my eyes, he wouldn't ask such a foolish question. But I don't want to blame him. It's my fault anyway. I already knew his bad habit of snoring and touching things when he's asleep, but I still stayed beside him. So this is what I got.
"Don't worry, I'm just fine. Besides, I have to wake up early since it's our first day of work," I said.
"That's right. I almost forgot we're working at the bar today. Yesterday, Miriam reminded us not to be late. I should take a shower now. By the way, your soup was delicious," he said, standing up and leaving the empty bowl on the table.
I don't really feel like going. My head is aching again, and my eyes feel heavy. I don't want to make a mistake on our first day of work. I wish I could rest for a while, but it seems like I have no other choice. I don't want to be a burden to Aaron. He's already carrying a lot of things. I shouldn't make it more difficult for him.
I stood up and stretched my arms and legs a little bit before washing the dishes. I feel like an old woman with arthritis. After washing the dishes, I waited for Aaron to finish using the bathroom. I don't know what he's doing there or what's taking him too long to come out.
Finally, he stepped out of the bathroom with nothing but a towel that hung around his waist. What caught my attention even more was his bulge. It's huge. I blushed as he caught me staring at it. But he just smiled flirtatiously, as if trying to seduce me, before entering our room.
"Foolish man," I sighed and entered the bathroom.
Then I started to imagine Aaron watching behind me as I took off my clothes. He's right there. I could feel his breath on my spine. I closed my eyes and felt his touch. But my head is throbbing again. Ah, shit! I should take a painkiller. The cold water only added to the pain.
"Are you alright there?" Aaron asked, knocking at the door.
"I'm fine," I replied, though my voice said otherwise.
"Are you sure?" he asked again. "You can stay here if you're not feeling good. I'll tell Miriam that you're sick and need to rest. I'm sure she'll understand."
I turned off the shower and used my hand as support. The bathroom's spinning wildly; I'm seeing stars swirling around my head before I suddenly black out. I didn't hear Aaron entering the bathroom, but when I woke up, I was already lying on a bed. Aaron's sitting beside me. There's a worried expression on his face.
"Where are we?" I asked.
"I brought you to a clinic nearby. You said you're fine, but you fainted in the bathroom," he replied.
I remembered what happened. If I fainted there and he brought me here, then that means he saw everything. It's not the first time, though, but I'm still feeling embarrassed.
"I'm sorry. I caused you so much trouble. You didn't go to work on your first day," I said, feeling so guilty.
"Don't worry about it. You're more important than work," he said. "I mean your health. Yeah, your health," he immediately corrected. "You should rest more. You have a slight fever. Miriam can just reduce our absence from our salary."
"She's probably expecting us to come today. You should go now. It's still early. I can take care of myself from here."
"Are you sure?" He asked, still worried.
"Yeah, I'll be fine. I'm just tired. I didn't sleep well last night, so I'll rest for a little bit," I said.
"Alright. You don't have to come to the bar today. Just take your time to rest. I'll be right back." He moved closer and kissed my forehead. I didn't expect him to do that. "Goodbye." He stood up and left without looking back.
Damn. Why am I so unlucky? I stood up and approached the nurse at her desk. She's wearing eyeglasses. "Do you have a painkiller?" I asked.
She reached for a little box above the cabinet, opened it, and took two tabs of aspirin. "Here." She handed them to me. "Is he your boyfriend?"
I tried not to blush at her question. "Nope. We're just friends and roommates," I said. "I think I should go home now. Thanks for this."
"You're welcome," she replied. "By the way, your friend is hot. You can come here if you don't feel fine or if you want to talk about anything."
"Sure," although I know she just wanted to see Aaron again. I'm not really in the position to be jealous since I'm not in a relationship with that man.
