Chapter Forty-three

After work, Cindy and I went back to the boarding house. We were both exhausted serving those demanding customers who even caused troubles when drunk. But it was worth it, and we had earned a lot from tips.
"Such a tiring day," Cindy said, already lying on her bed.
"Do you want to take a shower?" I asked, putting my purse on my bed.
"Later. You can go first. I'll just rest for a while," she replied.
"Okay." I went inside the bathroom, turned the lights on, closed the door, and had a shower. The water was a bit cold, but just perfect. Taking a bath before going to bed helps me fall asleep easily.
After taking a bath, I dried my hair using the hair dryer I've bought last time. When my hair was dry, I lay down on my bed. Cindy was already asleep. She must be exhausted to get up and have a shower. I didn't bother her. It's be rude to wake up a sleeping person.
As I closed my eyes, I started thinking about what Ethan said earlier. I've been thinking about it from work to the cab until now. To be honest, after what Aaron did, I no longer felt the same and I started to see him differently. I can't give him all my love anymore, in fear that he might cheat and break my heart again.
Ethan, on the other hand, was always there for me during those trying times. Just talking with him calms me down. Although I knew he wasn't perfect and have his own quirks and flaws. But the time we spent together was wonderful. Unfortunately, I don't have the courage to tell him how I feel, especially that he had just broken up with his fiancee and is still moving on.
As what they said, misery loves company. I don't want Ethan to only use me to fill the empty space in his heart. I don't really know what to do anymore. The only things that makes me cling to Aaron is this child in my womb. I have thought of abortion, but I realized that this baby is innocent. I can't lose it just because of one mistake.
After tossing and turning on my bed for a while, I've finally fallen asleep. In my dreams, I met my parents. They reminded me of the sacrifices they did to give me this life. I'm not allowed to waste it.
The next day, I woke up to the sound of my alarm. I forgot to turn it off before sleeping. I still feel tired. I'm thankful I don't have work during the day, which gives me space to do things I want to do. I stretched my body on my bed before getting up. I turned off my phone, rubbed my eyelids, went to the sink, washed my face, and wiped it dry with a towel. Cindy's bed was empty. She might have gone out. She's an early riser, often already gone before I even wake up.
My stomach rumbled. I picked up my purse and went out to get something to eat. I went to the pizzeria and ordered my favorite pizza and waffles. Then, I went to the cafe down the street. I bought a cup of latte before going back to the boardinghouse. Cindy's already back when I arrived. She seemed to be in a good mood.
"Morning, Cindy," I greeted her, putting the pizza and latte on the table. "You look happy. Did something happen? Mind sharing with me?"
"Nothing important. Theo and I had just gone to have breakfast," she replied, making me feel jealous.
"Oh, I see. You two are perfect for each other. Did he confess?" I asked, pulling the chair and sitting down on it.
"He did. Now we're dating," Cindy replied, smiling.
"Wow. Congratulations," I said.
"Why do you seem sad? Aren't you happy for me?"
"I'm happy for you. You're lucky to have Theo as your boyfriend. We both know how kind and thoughtful he is. I'm just thinking about myself and my current situation," I said.
"Are you not satisfied about it?" Cindy asked.
"It's not that I'm dissatisfied. I'm just feeling guilty. You know, Aaron's giving me all his love, but here I am, doubting him. In myself, it feels like I'm cheating on him," I said.
Cindy sat down in the chair on the other end of the table. "You shouldn't say that. Your boyfriend, I mean, your fiancé, he cheated on you first, right? That left a mark in you, so it's normal if you can't fully trust him again. Also, it's your right to love someone else. He's not the only man in the world; you might find someone better, like Ethan."
"You really didn't restrain yourself from saying that, did you?" I took a slice of pizza and ate it; Cindy did the same. "You said you already have breakfast with Theo. Why are you eating my pizza?"
"Ummm... It's delicious," she said, ignoring me.
Later at noon, I felt bored. Cindy's here but she's not willing to talk to me. She had buried her face in the novel again. I take my phone and send Aaron a message, but he's not responding. It's my third message. Maybe he's just busy working, but I also felt a little bit worried. He's not like this before. He always responds to my message immediately. Maybe he hates me and doesn't want to talk to me. I should go to his apartment to check on him.
"Hey, where are you going?" Cindy asked, watching me changing my clothes. I tied my hair and picked my purse.
"I'm so bored here, so I'm going to my fiance's place. Bye."
"Wait. Don't you do something crazy with him. You're already pregnant," Cindy reminded.
"I won't. Thanks for reminding me. Now I'm off." I turned the doorknob, opened the door, and stepped out.
It was a little bit warm outside. Even the wind was warm. It was the peak of summer. I stopped a cab by the street and told the driver to bring me to Aaron's address. As the traffic light turned green, the driver began driving.
For about 20-30 minutes, I arrived at Aaron's apartment. The place was strange. There was no one around, not even a dog. Luckily, the door wasn't locked, so I entered. It was so silent. It seemed like Aaron wasn't home. I saw a note on the glass table in the living room. I picked and read it.
"Dear Tricia, I'm sorry if I didn't tell you my plans. Someone came and told me they knew something about my dad, so I went with them. We're going to the world of werewolves. You don't have to worry about me. This is a personal journey. I need to find out more about myself and my father. Love you, Aaron."
Aaron went with them? I read that line again. Who could these people be? Don't tell me they are sent by Alpha William. Even though Aaron tells me not to worry, I'm still worried about him. What if they are sent by Alpha William to kill him?
I thought he finally let us go, but now he came back and took Aaron for revenge. I can't let this happen. My father already went back and was probably killed. I can't let Alpha William take everything from me. But I also know how dangerous it is to go back. I need help. Then I remember Ethan. We might not be in a good relationship right now, but he's the only one who can help me.
