I was done with my work for the day. This week, I had lesser work to do, since we had no cosmetic event or show at hand. Though based on our calendar and schedule, the coming week will have lots of activities on ground. So, I can say that this week is just a warming up week.
Done with some of the tasks I made myself do earlier, I thought that it was wise to leave. I had to pick up the kids and there is dinner to prepare, even though Nancy will be around to help.
Dinner will be so boring without Alex, I thought sorrowfully. I still wished he didn't leave. I console myself with the fact that whatever he is doing is for the good of the family and the kids. I wondered why he hasn't placed a call across to me yet. I couldn't call either, since he left the country and definitely don't have the number I should contact if I wanted to.
"I guess he hasn't settled in then. If he has, he will definitely call me. God please, keep him safe for me." I prayed as I continued doing what I was doing.
Satisfied with how far I have gone and how stressed I was already, I made contacts to some of the executives and instructed that they should make sure that everything I will need for work the next day is kept on set, so I won't take a lot of time.
I was about leaving when Jessica barged into my office as usual. She had a light makeup on her face and I sure didn't see that when she came around in the morning. I figured she was going somewhere or something related to that, it can't be anything other than that anyway. I didn't bother asking, I knew she would reveal it herself.
"Hey Jess, I was about leaving before you came in. How was work today? I asked her, whilst checking for something in a document on my table and I was standing.
"Oh... Well, work was uhm not really stressful. I wish it'll be like that forever." She replied laughing at herself.
"You know that's not gonna happen." I answered, looking up at her.
"And what's not gonna happen? She asked like she had no idea what both of us were talking about.
"Your wishing to forever, that's never gonna happen, as far as Dina's Beauty still exist, well no matter who the manager is. Except you mean you will be fired or you resign on your own. Because that is when you won't be working again."
"Oh Sonia my dear, you take my talk so seriously. I was just kidding when I said that you know. But, come to think of it, who will ever think that one could ever be free in this place. The stress is quite much. It's the pay that keeps us going."
"Yeah, that's usually what keeps most of us. It's just few people that might have passion for it."
"Yeah, you are right. So, where are you headed now? Home or to the kids' school huh? Jessica asked as she pushed a chair aside and sat down on it.
"Girl, I am talking of leaving and here you are trying to be comfortable. Really? Come on aren't you ready to go home? I asked.
"You didn't answer my question. I hope you are not expecting me to answer yours either." She said, ignoring my question completely.
"Whatever. What was your question again? I asked.
"Where are you going to from here? Your husband's house or to your childrens' s school. That was my question."
"Oh that. I'm going to pick up my kids' from school then I will go home. Dinner tonight is settled, we will just have sauce with yam. That won't take so much time to prepare." I answered
"Will your husband like that anyway? I know he doesn't like just anyhow prepared food, atleast you mentioned that to me some time ago."
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. My husband travelled early this morning. By the way, I didn't tell you I was going to cook anyhow food, sauce is just one easy food to prepare." I explained, knowing fully well that she was just pulling my legs. The fact that I always fall into her traps when I'm so much aware of what she does still gets me thinking, though I choose not to think too much about it.
"Alex travelled? Really, you didn't tell me that. Was it an impromptu trip or something? Well, that aside, I have someone to pick the kids from school today, my husband is aware, I know you will ask."
"Who did you send? I asked, not really interested on whoever it was.
"The driver, I asked him to go pick the kids up."
"Hmmm, okay, if you say so then. As far as Eddy isn't against you, ha, then I'm not either. Please, come on, let's go, I'm tired already."
"Alright. But, I was expecting you to ask me where I was going to that I can't go pick up the kids myself or don't you care about my welfare anymore? I asked.
"Jessica" I called, stressing the Jessica so much so she could feel the intensity in the tone of my voice. "I do care about you, but I was thinking that if it was very important, you will tell me about it and I wouldn't need to stress about asking you. That doesn't mean I done care, I just respect giving you your privacy, alright?
We came out of the office and I had to lock the doors and windows before leaving.
"Okay, I understand now. Stop trying to make a scene out of nothing big woman."
"Seriously, you are the one that made me do that. I've always been so quiet and sweet." I said sharply, refusing to let her win this time.
"Is that what Alex uses to close your eyes from seeing the reality? Really, quiet as in, monkeys quietness? She asked sarcastically.
"You're being sarcastic now, seriously. Well, nevermind, I won't ever bother next time."
"Why are you acting like a child now Sonia? what is wrong with you? because I seem not to understand." Jessica said, looking at me like I was a ghost or something.
"Jessica, let me be please, I don't have time for your funny play." I left her there and started going downstairs. She ran infront of me and stopped.
"Wait, you, this silly woman. You are acting like a child because you miss him, you miss Alex already. It's not even twenty four hours yet. Seriously, I can't believe it." Jessica laughed at me after she had exposed me to no one in particular.
"Kudos to you who know me so much. I'm impressed. To be honest, I must confess I miss him a lot. A whole lot. But, I'm not acting as a child, take note."
"I knew you miss him, awwnn, that's so sweet. About you acting as a child, you know I was only joking. Okay, uhm I'm going out with some ladies and we will be having a little ladies hangout till about 8pm, maybe you should join us, with that we can cheer you up." Jessica suggested.
"Jess, you know I don't like parties at all, maybe that will be next time. Please, enjoy yourself, but don't do anything silly." I said to her finally.
"Okay, if you insist. See you tomorrow. I will share the gist with you by tomorrow."
"As usual, you never forget. Alright then, see you tomorrow. My regards to Eddy and the kids."
