I and Cain reached the place full of old buildings like that in an apocalypse. A group of people wearing black clothes and holding daggers surrounded us.
"What are these people?" I asked.
"Ninjas," Cain replied. "There are five of them. I'm sure you can handle them by yourself, Lil."
"What? Are you out of your mind?" I asked. "How could I handle five people all at once? And they look strong. I don't even have any weapon I can use."
"Then use your mind," Cain replied. "That's the number one weapon you can use to fight the enemy."
Right! I remembered what happened yesterday. It might sound crazy, but perhaps I could use my mind to fight the enemy. Soon, the ninjas charged at me; I was shaking in fear. I didn't want to die yet.
I tried my best to think clearly. What should I do? Then a brilliant idea popped into my mind. I thought that their movements were slow, and it became real. I could see them moving very slowly, making me able to dodge all their attacks.
"That was close," I said. "Now it's time to counterattack." I grabbed one of the ninja's daggers and used it to kill them. I stabbed them again and again, one by one, until they all fell to the ground. Time came back to normal after they died.
"See?" Cain said. "You've defeated them all in just a blink. Now don't think that you're incapable. I gave you this task because I know you can."
"Thanks for reminding me of that, Cain," I said with a smile.
I looked like the killer in a movie I had watched before. Someone who used a dagger to kill people. I have covered my hands with blood again. But I have gotten used to it. It's like killing pigs.
Suddenly, I heard the sounds of police cars approaching. I knew I had been hunted by them. Perhaps they already knew I'm a killer. I didn't want to spend the rest of my life in prison.
"You have to be quick. The cops are coming," I said.
Cain immediately performed the rites to gather the soul of the ninjas. After that, he used invisibility magic to conceal my presence. The cops examined the surroundings and found the five dead people.
"This is bad; those killers have escaped again," one of the cops said. "They couldn't have gotten far yet. We have to stop them as soon as possible before they can kill more people."
"But how? We don't have a trace of their existence. I have a hunch that we're not fighting ordinary people," a female cop said. "The killer must be someone extraordinary."
"What do you mean?" The other cop asked.
"What I mean is, if the killer or killers are ordinary humans, then we could have found and caught them already. It's been so long since we started locating them, but still the killing only continued and many people had gone missing," the female cop explained.
"You're right. But that's not the reason to give up. We are given this task to find them because the government believes in our capability," the cop said.
"Who's there?" The female cop asked.
Cain suddenly cancelled the invisibility skill that concealed my presence. I didn't know why he did that. The cops pointed their guns at me. That old man put me in a tight situation again. I had no choice but to fight.
"Don't move or we'll shoot!" A male cop ordered. "Put your hands in the air and lower to the ground."
I didn't listen and moved. The cops shoot at me. But the bullets were moving so slow. I avoided them all, picked one of the guns, and used it to kill the cops. They all died, but I don't think they were included in my list.
"Why did you do that, Cain?" I asked in a mad tone.
"We can't let those cops live, Lil. They will keep hunting us, so it's better for them to die," Cain replied.
"You're so cruel. We should only kill those who are on my enemy list. Why are you including innocent people?" I asked.
"It's better to kill than to be killed, Lil," Cain said. "They died because they were weak. You're strong, so you survived."
"But we can't just treat lives like nothing. Those cops have family, children, lovers, dreams, passions, and everything that makes them human, just like me," I said.
"You didn't say that. I'll pretend I didn't hear you saying that," Cain distanced himself. "You've killed many people already. You can't just go back. You have to finish what you started no matter how difficult it gets."
"But sometimes giving up is the right thing, running away is the brave thing, and letting go is the one thing that will bring you the right thing," I argued.
"Stop arguing with me, Lil; you should rather be prepared, because zombies are coming," Cain said.
I looked at the distance and saw a large horde of zombies. I didn't know where they were coming from. "Aren't we supposed to escape now? You can use your teleportation magic, right?"
"I'm sorry, Lil. I have drained my mana by sealing those ninjas' souls. It'll take me a while to recover," Cain replied.
"Then what should we do?" I panicked. I don't want to die yet. "There are too many of them. And what are those things?" I pointed at the giant creatures approaching with the zombies. There were also skeletons coming.
"Those are golems. They can use magic and have very thick skin," Cain said.
"Why are you so calm? Aren't you afraid to die?" I asked.
"Why would I be afraid if I'm already dead? It's you, Lil; you should be scared now if you don't want to become a ghost just like me. You should think on how to survive in this monster's stampede."
"That's so unfair!" I exclaimed.
"Life has always been unfair, Lil. Some people get what they want easily, while others have to work their ass off. But I think that's the balance of the universe. Nobody's rich without poor, there's no sadness without happiness, no order without chaos," Cain said.
"Just like yin and yang, darkness and light coexist in almost everything," I replied. "Anyway, I can slow down the time until you recover your mana."
"That's impossible, Lil," he said.
