I didn't listen to Cain. I wanted to know who that person sitting on the moon was. I wanted to go to the moon, and so I used my imagination to get there.
"Hello?" I shouted. My voice echoed.
"Who are you?" It was a girl. She stood up, let go of her fishing line, and faced me. She looked like a fairy. Her black hair was tied like an ice cream, and she had pretty colorful wings. "How did you get here?"
"I'm Lil. How about you? What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I'm Luna, the moon goddess. This place is my home. I've been living here since I was born eons ago. You're not supposed to be here, Lil, or Maura will be mad. She'll kill you like what she did to my family," she said.
"Who is she?" I asked.
"She's an evil goddess. She killed my parents and siblings. Now I'm the only one left. If I die, the moon will disappear. You have to go now. She's coming here."
"How about you? Will you be okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, I can deal with her. Save yourself, Lil."
"It's nice to meet you, Luna. Please don't die, or the night skies will be so dark," I exclaimed before jumping down to the sea.
"Thank you for reminding me of my worth, Lil," she said. "I thought I didn't matter, that the world will exist even without me. I might not be as bright as the stars, but you've reminded me that I can do a lot."
I didn't expect that a simple word could make a difference; it could either destroy someone's confidence or encourage them to do better.
I was falling from the moon to the sea. I remembered that I didn't know how to swim, so I made a lifebuoy. I spotted several dorsal fins approaching. "Sharks!"
I immediately moved myself away before I could get bitten by their sharp, pointed teeth. They chased after me. I didn't want to die, so I used water magic to drive them back. The sea became stormy.
"Lil! Where have you been?" Cain asked. He was standing on the shore with a worried expression on his face. "Are you alright? What happened to the sea?"
"I don't know," I said".
"Better go back inside and have a rest," Cain said.
We went inside the bungalow and had a rest. It rained, and I remembered Luna. I hope she was fine, that she won against the evil goddess. I didn't know what would happen to Earth without the moon.
The next day, the sea had seemed to calm down. The water was clear blue. I lay down under a coconut tree that protected me from the sunlight. I saw boats and ships in the distance.
"You alright?" Cain asked, handing me a coconut shell with a straw. "You should eat something."
I took the coconut from him and sipped it. "So delicious! How did you get these?" I asked.
"Stolen," he said, which made me spit out.
"You really like to steal, don't you?"
"They haven't seen me anyway, so it can't be called stealing. No one had ever caught me even if they saw the things being taken away," he said.
"Hilarious." I chuckled.
"What's funny?"
"I can imagine these coconut shells walking on their own in the air. You must have scared the tourists. They might think this island is cursed."
"That's none of my business anymore," he said. "Just eat your coconut already. We still have a lot of things to do."
"Why won't we stay here for a while?" I asked. "I'm enjoying this view."
"You can't stay here, Lil, or you'll die. Don't let this temporary happiness ruin your long-term goal. First, you have to finish your mission, and then after that you can do whatever you want. You won't see me again."
"Well, I like being with you, though. I've learned a lot. I've traveled to different places and seen many horrible things an ordinary human couldn't do," I said.
"Just like what?" he asked. "A walking skeleton?"
"Yeah, a chilling skeleton, something that sits under the shades of a coconut tree with eyeglasses, wearing a Hawaiian t-shirt and sipping juice. That's one of those things I'd never forget."
"You have gotten crazy, Lil. Don't worry, I'll give you some medication, I mean, some time to stay here, but not to enjoy it, but to look for your enemy." He stood up.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"Just do your task, Lil. You'll know it when someone is destined to become your enemy. They will be attracted to you and will start a fight even if you don't want it," he said before walking away.
I finished eating my coconut. I stood up and threw the coconut shells into the trash can. Suddenly, someone touched my shoulder. When I looked back, I saw an unfamiliar girl. She has long, curly, black hair, a pointed nose, deep brown eyes, and fair skin.
"W—who are you?" I asked, stepping backwards.
"It's me, Lil. Don't you recognize me? I'm Ana Villamor," she said.
She was wearing tattered jeans and a white sleeveless shirt covered with a denim jacket, perfectly outlining the curves of her body. She has big boobs and a golden-chain necklace with a heart pendant hanging from her neck.
"Ana Villamor?" I asked, confused. "I don't know you."
"You probably forgot already because it's been so long since the last time we talked. I was your neighbor, but my parents decided to move here a long time ago," she said.
I couldn't understand why, but this girl sounds suspicious. No matter how much I thought about it, I couldn't remember her. Perhaps she's a swindler who's trying to fool me. I have to be wary of her even though she couldn't get anything from me because I don't have anything.
"So, what are you doing here?" She took a red lollipop from her pocket, opened it, put it to her mouth, and sucked it. "Are you with your parents?"
"Nope. I'm alone. I mean, I'm with my grandpa," I said. I'm referring to Cain since he looked like my grandfather.
"You're here for a summer vacation?"
"Not really," I replied. "We're here for our mission."
"What mission?" she asked.
"You wouldn't like to know it. Let's just talk about something else, like how you recognized me even though we've been separated for too long," I said.
She smiled an evil smile and said, "How would I not know you, Lil? You're here to kill me, right?"
