Chapter 13 Prepare to leave

“What about your mother though?” Jonathan suddenly asks worriedly, remembering what happened.
They all fall silent as they consider his words. There is nothing they can do for his mother, nothing that won’t put them in danger too.
“I don’t know yet,” Dawson confesses worriedly again.
Iris nods firmly in understanding. “We will come up with something,” she promises softly.
Dawson nods too, knowing they would do whatever it takes to save his mother. “Good,” he repeats.
They sit there again, lost in thought as they try and come up with a plan.
Suddenly Dawson remembers something. “I have an idea,” he says suddenly.
They all look at him curiously. “What?” Iris asks suddenly.
“If we call the cops they will help us,” he explains quickly. They could arrest his mother for threatening his son.
Iris smiles suddenly in understanding. “That is perfect,” she greets happily.
Jonathan grins in agreement too. “Yeah, it is.”
Dawson laughs tiredly and then nods firmly again in relief. “I’ll call now.”
They watch as he gets up and calls the cops, hoping it will work.
When he gets off the phone, he sits down again. “They are coming,” he tells them happily.
Iris smiles in relief at his words. She is glad their plan is working.
“They should be here soon,” he continues softly. They don’t have much time to waste.
Iris nods firmly again. “Okay, let’s get ready then.”
They all get up and prepare to leave, knowing they have to be safe.
They sit there, waiting for the cops to arrive, hoping everything will work out.
“Here,” Dawson says suddenly. He pulls something out of his pocket and holds it out.
Iris looks at him in surprise and then takes what he is holding. “What is this?” she asks curiously. It was a small black box.
He opens it, revealing a diamond ring. “Will you marry me?” he blurts out in shock.
Iris’s eyes widen in surprise at his sudden proposal. “What?” she repeats softly in shock again.
He nods firmly in confirmation again. “Marry me,” he repeats again. “I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Iris gasps suddenly in realization and then grins happily. “Yes!” she shouts excitedly, realizing she wants to marry him too.
Dawson grins tiredly at her sudden acceptance in happiness and then slips the ring onto her finger. They hug happily, knowing they are engaged now.
The doorbell rings suddenly. “I’ll get it,” Dawson says.
He walks to the door and looks through the peephole, seeing two cops standing there. He smiles in relief and then opens the door, knowing everything will be okay now.
“Hello,” one of the cops greets. “Are you Dawson Graham?”
“Yes,” Dawson confirms instantly.
“We were told you would like to report your mother threatening your son,” the other cop explains.
Dawson nods instantly again. “Yes, I do.”
The first cop nods in understanding. “Please step aside so we can enter,” he requests firmly.
Dawson steps back, allowing them to enter. “Go ahead and sit down,” he greets politely, gesturing towards the couch.
The cops sit down on the chair across from them. “So, what happened?” the first cop asks again.
Dawson tells them everything that happened, not leaving anything out. Iris nods weakly along with his words.
“I see,” the second cop says after he is finished. “Do you have any idea where your mother is now?”
Dawson shakes his head tiredly in refusal. “No, I don’t,” he confesses sadly. “I haven’t heard from her since yesterday.” He hadn’t known where his mother was now.
The first cop nods firmly. “Don’t worry. We will find her.”
Dawson smiles gratefully at his assurance. “Thank you.”
They nod again and then stand up. “If you hear anything, call us right away,” the second cop requests firmly.
“Of course,” Dawson confirms stubbornly.
They nod again in understanding and then walk to the door. “Have a good evening,” the first cop greets in farewell.
“Thank you,” Dawson repeats again and then closes the door behind them.
Iris then stands up and walks over to Dawson. “What do we do now?” she asks softly.
“We wait,” Dawson answers simply. They couldn’t do anything else until they knew what happened.
“Okay,” she agrees softly.
They sit down again, waiting for any news.
After a few minutes, the cops call. “Hello,” Dawson greets again.
“We arrested your mother,” one of the cops informs happily.
Dawson smiles in relief at their news. “Good,” he greets happily. He is glad his mother can’t hurt anyone else.
“Do you want to see her?” the cop asks suddenly.
Dawson pauses at his question, thinking about it. He didn’t know if he could stand to look at her again. “No,” he decides finally. “I don’t want to.”
The cop nods again. “Okay. We will keep you updated on what happens to her.” He then hangs up.
Dawson sets down the phone and then looks at Iris and their son. “They caught her,” he tells them happily, smiling in relief.
“Oh!” Iris greets instantly in surprise.
Jonathan grins suddenly in happiness too. “Yay!” he cheers.
They all hug happily in relief, knowing they can relax now.
“We can go home now,” Iris realizes happily. They can go back to their normal lives.
Dawson grins weakly too at her words. “Yeah,” he agrees happily again.
They all get up and head out the door, happy to be going home.
Dawson follows them to their house and then watches as they drive inside. He grins tiredly again, knowing they are safe now. He turns to go to his car when suddenly he sees something out of the corner of his eye.
He turns quickly and sees his mother standing there, watching them in fury. “What are you doing here?” Dawson growls angrily.
