Chapter 19: The Victorious Kiss
Chapter 19: The Victorious Kiss
Dark clouds gathered overhead, swirling in a menacing dance as the winds howled through the skies. The storm rumbled in the distance, and flashes of lightning split the heavens with an ominous crackle. Prince Adar, seated atop a majestic griffon, felt his heart pounding in his chest as he gripped the reins tightly. Behind him, Allira held on, her arms wrapped around his waist. Her touch, even in the chaos of battle, sent a surge of energy through him.
The battle had already begun below. Their allies—the wizards, witches, and warriors from various villages—fought valiantly against King Cole’s forces. The villagers of Yellowstone, determined to protect their homes, had joined in the fight, armed with little more than makeshift weapons and their courage. But now, the true terror came from the skies.
"The Thunder Mage!" Adar shouted over the roar of the wind. He pointed towards a figure hovering high above the battlefield, surrounded by crackling energy. The Thunder Mage, one of King Cole’s most feared commanders, raised his staff toward the storm clouds, summoning lightning with a wave of his hand.
"We have to stop him!" Allira yelled back. Her voice was strained, but her resolve was unwavering.
Before Adar could respond, a bolt of lightning shot down from the sky, striking the ground near their allies. The explosion sent debris flying, and the ground shook from the impact.
"We’re not going to make it!" Allira’s grip tightened around his waist as the griffon soared higher, trying to avoid another bolt of lightning. But the Thunder Mage wasn’t done. He raised his staff once more, the sky answering his call as a blinding flash of light erupted from the clouds.
Adar pulled the reins sharply to the left, and the griffon banked hard, narrowly avoiding the strike. The air sizzled with electricity, and the hairs on the back of Adar’s neck stood on end.
"Hang on!" he shouted, pushing the griffon to climb even higher. Below them, aerial knights mounted on wyverns closed in, their weapons charged with electrical energy. One by one, they dove toward Adar and Allira, their lances crackling with power.
Allira drew her sword, her face set in fierce determination.
"I’ll handle the knights! Focus on getting us closer to the Thunder Mage!"
With a battle cry, she swung her sword as one of the knights dove toward them, his lance aimed directly at Adar’s chest. Allira’s blade met the lance with a shower of sparks, deflecting the attack just in time. The force of the blow sent the knight spiraling away, but more were closing in.
"They’re all over us!" Adar cursed under his breath. The storm had grown fiercer, the winds buffeting them from all sides. The griffon struggled to maintain its course, its wings straining against the gale.
"Keep us steady!" Allira shouted, her sword flashing as she fended off another knight. The clash of metal rang out as she parried blow after blow, her movements swift and precise.
Adar gritted his teeth, urging the griffon forward. They needed to reach the Thunder Mage, or the battle would be lost. Another bolt of lightning shot down from the clouds, striking dangerously close. The griffon let out a screech, its feathers singed by the heat.
But they were getting closer. The Thunder Mage hovered above them, his eyes glowing with the power of the storm. Lightning crackled around him as he prepared to unleash another devastating strike.
Adar steeled himself. "Now!" he shouted, and the griffon dove toward the mage.
Allira, gripping the saddle with one hand, reached into her satchel and pulled out a glowing orb—a relic they had retrieved during one of their many perilous missions. The orb hummed with energy, capable of absorbing and neutralizing magical attacks.
"Here goes nothing!" Allira hurled the orb toward the Thunder Mage just as he raised his staff. The relic struck the mage’s shield of energy, and for a moment, the air was still. Then, with a deafening crack, the lightning dissipated, and the storm lost its fury.
The Thunder Mage’s eyes widened in shock as his power waned.
"No!" he roared, his voice filled with rage.
Adar didn’t hesitate. He urged the griffon forward, closing the distance between them. With a powerful leap, he vaulted from the griffon’s back and landed on the floating platform where the mage stood. Drawing his sword, he slashed at the mage’s staff, shattering it in two.
The Thunder Mage let out a scream of agony as his connection to the storm was severed. Lightning flickered around him one last time before the storm finally cleared, leaving the sky eerily silent.
From below, the battlefield erupted in cheers. The villagers and their allies, inspired by the victory in the skies, surged forward, driving back King Cole’s forces. The tide of battle had turned.
Adar, breathing heavily, sheathed his sword and turned to look at Allira. She sat astride the griffon, her chest rising and falling as she caught her breath, her hair tousled from the wind and battle.
For a moment, time seemed to stand still. The adrenaline from the fight still coursed through Adar’s veins, but something else stirred within him—a feeling that had been growing ever since he had regained his memories. He had tried to push it aside, to focus on the battle, on the mission. But now, with the storm passed and the battle won, he couldn’t hold it back any longer.
He jumped down from the platform and landed beside Allira, reaching up to help her down from the griffon. As she dismounted, their eyes met, and in that moment, the world around them faded away. Allira opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. The tension between them, the unspoken feelings that had simmered beneath the surface for so long, finally reached a boiling point.
Without thinking, Adar pulled her close. His hands gripped her shoulders as he searched her eyes, his heart pounding in his chest.
"Adar, what—" Allira began, but she didn’t have time to finish.
In one swift motion, Adar leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. The kiss was sudden, fierce, and filled with the weight of everything they had been through—the danger, the battles, the shared moments of vulnerability. Allira’s eyes widened in surprise, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she melted into the kiss, her hands finding their way to his chest, gripping the fabric of his tunic.
The world around them seemed to blur. The distant sounds of battle, the cheers of victory, the wind—none of it mattered. In that moment, it was just the two of them, locked in a kiss that had been a long time coming.
When they finally pulled apart, both were breathless, their faces inches apart. Allira stared up at him, her cheeks flushed, her eyes wide with a mixture of shock and something else—something deeper.
"Well," she said after a moment, her voice slightly hoarse,
"that was... unexpected."
Adar laughed, a sound filled with relief and something akin to joy.
"I’ve wanted to do that for a long time," he admitted, his voice soft.
Allira raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile tugging at her lips.
"Took you long enough, Your Highness."
They both laughed, the tension between them easing, replaced by a warmth that felt right. The battle had been won, but they knew there were more challenges ahead. Yet in that moment, with the storm gone and their hearts laid bare, they allowed themselves to savor the victory—and the spark that had finally ignited between them.
Adar pulled her close again, resting his forehead against hers. "Whatever happens next, we face it together," he whispered.
Allira nodded, her smile softening. "Together."
With their bond stronger than ever, they turned toward the battlefield, ready to face whatever challenges awaited them. But for now, they had won—and in more ways than one.Download Novelah App
