Chapter 75 Taking the Bullet for Her

♫ Drew ♫
Myco was nowhere in sight the next day. I’m feeling uneasy since he said he’s going to talk to Leslie, but he didn’t show up.
After school, everyone headed home but since Leslie lives near the studio, she went ahead of us. I followed her as she went straight to the studio.
I suddenly thought that maybe Myco did send her a message. That she’s going there to talk to him. So I decided to go to the convenience store in front of the studio to not disturb them.
No less than ten minutes, a familiar car stopped by the gate and I wasn’t wrong, it was indeed Ysmael. He went straight inside so I quickly followed. I stayed right outside the gate, leaning on a post close to it.
The three of them started talking, shouting. First was Ysmael then Leslie. She doesn't back down. She’s brave enough to face his anger.
After a while, I can hear Myco shouting too. Not long after, I heard a gunshot. I was frozen for seconds and when I get in, Ysmael was pointing a gun at Leslie.
I wanted to jump at him but I’m afraid of the consequence. I’m not sure if Leslie noticed me while Ysmael continues to shout at her.
When he pointed the gun back to her and he was about ready to pull the trigger, I ran towards her. No, I can’t let him hurt her. Not on my watch.
Yet again, I was right. He did pull the trigger, and since I’m right, I was the one who got shot.
I was about to fall but I tried my best to not fall over Leslie but I wasn't able to do it. In the end, I still fall on her.
I can hear her scream my name. I closed my eyes for a moment and when I opened them again, she was already crying. I was asking her to stop crying, but she won't listen.
“I love you, Leslie, I love you so much,” I even said in hopes that it would stop her from tearing up, but she still didn’t stop until I felt something painful in my back then I blacked out.
I woke up to the ear-piercing sound but I’m not sure where it’s coming from. Looking around, I can see people in white suits. I wanted to struggle but my body feels numb all over.
I closed my eyes to calm myself down and when I opened them again, I looked around to see where I am. “Patient's conscious,” someone said.
After that, they all started talking again so I just closed my eyes to try and recall what happened. Then an image of Leslie flashed before me. I felt a tinge of pain in my heart.
‘Did I make her cry again?’
Not sure when I fell asleep, but when I woke up, I felt something heavy on my arm. I tried to move it but I can’t so I was forced to open my eyes and saw someone bowed down next to me.
I felt irritated but when I tried to pull my arm again, the person next to me moved. It was none other than Leslie.
I suddenly wanted to play dead out of shame because I woke her up. I also feel embarrassed as I’m sure I don’t look like a human right now.
“Drew?” she almost squealed. “Drew! Hang on… I’ll just call the doctor,” then she run out even before I was able to stop her.
When the doctor left, my parents excused themselves as well. They said they need to eat so I was left with Leslie in the room.
“How are you feeling?” she asked and she starts to cry.
I reached out for her cheek and she held my hand. “Why are you crying?” and she shook her head at me.
“I got scared Drew,” she whispered. “I thought we’ll lose you,” then her soft cries turn into sobbing.
I gently pulled her up and she followed. I hugged her but not for long, as I feel pain in my back. Gladly, she returned it before I laid down again.
“Stop moving, you might hurt yourself.”
I stopped her from returning to her seat and she sat on the edge of my bed instead. I still didn’t let go of her hand as I stare at her face.
“Did I make you worry?” she nodded as she smile lazily. “Sorry…”
Her smile widen then she caressed my cheek. “There’s nothing for you to be sorry about,” and again, she starts to cry.
“Sshh… I really don’t like seeing you crying, Les. I don’t like seeing you sad.”
“I’m not sad Drew, I'm super happy because finally, you’re awake,” she then kissed the back of my hand and that alone sent me into euphoria. “Thank you, thank you for waking up,” she added.
I can see the nonstop flowing of her tears even if she tries to stop them. And even if she’s crying, her eyes are smiling.
But then again, it can’t always be this good for both of us. Someone needs to interrupt of course. If it weren’t for the pain in my back, I would’ve punched this bother.
“Drew!” and that voice alone sent me to fury. Leslie stood up after hearing Minnie who went straight to me and hug me. “How are you? Are you ok? Thank God you're alive!”
“What are you doing here?” I asked while hiding the irritation in my voice.
“What kind of question is that?! Isn't it natural for a girlfriend to visit his boyfriend?!”
“You’re not my girlfriend!” I spat as I brush her hands off my arm.
When I looked behind her, I saw no one. It seems like Leslie already left the room, but when? I just hope she heard what I told Minnie. That she’s not my girlfriend.
I really don’t want Leslie to think that something is going on between the two of us. When I come out of here, I can already try to win her back and that’s the first thing I’ll do.
I can’t let go of her again. Never.
