"Arghh! My eyes sucks." I said in disappointment while looking at the mirror. It's already 5:30 am in the morning and I already finished preparing for school but I can't go out because of my eyes. Mom will stick her nose with this for sure.
"Ahhh! What should I do?" I asked myself.
I roamed around my table and saw my shades. I took it and I examined it's design. It's not too fashionable.
Maybe this will work?
I wore it and look at myself in the mirror. It doesn't seem over fashioned I think?
"Maybe this is enough." I said then I went out of my room.
I look around and saw nothing in the hallway so I went downstairs.
I look for mom and saw that she's reading a magazine while sipping in her coffee.
"Good morning, ma'am." Said Nani Lena's assistant who's cleaning the vase in the living room.
Mom heard the maid when she greeted me so she immediately look at me.
I watched how her reaction changed from smiling to frowning.
"Why are you---"I'm going, Mom. Theo and I will eat in the restaurant nearby for our breakfast and he will drive me to school." I lied, interrupting what she's about to say.
Mom's eyes sparkled after hearing what I've said.
"Really?!" She exclaimed.
"Good morning, Tita." My eyes widened in surprise when I suddenly heard Theodore's voice.
I slowly look behind to confirm that it's him and yes. It's him! He looked at me too with a confused look.
"Why are you wearing shades? Where's your eyeglasses?" He asked.
"I just tried this shades that I saw in my stuffs." I lied.
God. I'm in trouble.
"Theo, you're here. You didn't tell me you're having a breakfast with Miel in a restaurant." Mom said.
Oh My God!
"In a restaurant?" Asked Theo.
"Yeah. She told me that you two will eat breakfast in the restaurant nearby. You didn't know?" Mom asked.
"Of course he knows, mom." I said to Mom then I looked at Theo again.
"We're going to eat in a restaurant this morning right?" I asked theo with a trembling hand.
I secretly remove my shades to make him see why I'm wearing shades.
"Please go with the flow." I mouthed.
His brows furrowed when he saw my swollen eyes and at this moment, I already knew that he'll help me.
"Ah that! I'm sorry. I thought tita Mariella is talking about something else." Theo said then he went to Mom.
"By the way, tita. Mom asked me to bring this to you." He said then he gave Mom a Tupperware with a fruit salad.
"She made it last night." He added.
Mom's attention is completely in the fruit salad now. Thanks to Theo.
"Aw! This looks so delicious! Althea is really good with desserts." Mom complimented.
"Yes tita, she really is." Theo responded. "Ah, tita we're going now. Miel will be late if we'll stay here long." He said then he hugged Mom..
"Okay, take care of my daughter." Mom said then she pat Theo in his shoulder.
"Yes, tita." said Theo.
I went to Mom and kiss her in her cheek. She hugged me and kissed the back of my head.
"Bye, Mom. I love you." I said.
"I love you too, darling." Mom said then she let go of me. "You really look so weird today." Mom said with a frown and stared at me. Seconds later, she lift her hand as if reaching for something in me and that made me feel nervous.
I closed my eyes out of fear.
Please don't remove it, Mom.
"But yeah you said you wanna try it so go on but please remove that when you're in school already." Mom said so I opened my eyes.
She's tying her hair already. It turns out that she just get her clam in nani Lena's assistant who is standing in my back.
"Thank you, Jana." Mom said after tying her hair.
"We're going now, tita." Theo said im my back then he held me in my waist and pulled me lightly.
"Okay. Enjoy!" said Mom.
Theo assist me and we walk towards the front door. We walk till we get outside.
"Wait here. I'll go get my car." Theo said when we arrived outside our house.
"Okay.." I said and that's his signal to go to their house.
While waiting, I thought of calling Matthew with the hope that he will answer me and will listen to me now.
I took my phone in my bag and dialed his number.
"Yes?" I gasped when I heard his voice.
H-he answered my call.
I didn't utter any word out of shock. So he speak again.
"Miel?" He asked after few seconds of silence.
"M-Matthew." I called him.
"Hmm?" He asked.
"I'm sor---"It's okay. Stop saying sorry." Matthew interrupted.
"O-okay." I answered.
We became silent after that so I asked him.
"A-are you still mad?" I asked with fear running through my spine.
"I'm okay now. I'm sorry fornthe words that I said yesterday." Matthew said that made me sigh in relief.
It's a relief that we're okay now.
"It's okay. I understand." I said then I smiled.
"Thank you." he said.
"I love you." I replied but I didn't get any response. All I heard is a sound of people talking but I cannot understand what they are saying.
"Ah, Miel. I have to go. I'll hang up now. Take care. Bye." Matthew said like he's in a hurry.
It made me sad but it's okay. Atleast we're good now.
"Okay. Bye. I love y----" I didn't finish what I'm about to say because he hang up already.
It's kinda offending.
I removed my phone in my ear in disappointment. I look at my phone and saw how our call disappeared.
He said he's okay now. It seems like we're okay now but I can't feel it. All I can feel is that something's strange.
"Rein." Theo suddenly called that made me came back to my senses.
"Ah huh?" I said unaware of what's happening. I blinked twice then I look at Theo who is looking at me intently.
"Get inside now." He said then he opened the passenger's seat and help me sit there.
"Thank you." I said as I sat on the seat.
"I guess that Matthew is the reason why you're like this." Theo said when he sat in the driver's seat next to me.
I look at him in disbelief. He really knows me very well. By my actions, he can easily decode my problem. It's undeniable. He's my best friend afterall, we grew up together.
"Yeah." I whispered. I heaved a sigh and look at the window beside me.
"What happened?" Theo asked then he started the engine and drove the car towards the restaurant nearby.
I stopped for a moment. I didn't know if I should tell him or not.
I think telling him will make things worse. And besides, we're already okay. He told me that he's already okay. So I think it's better to not tell him about it.
"It's a long story---"I don't care." He interrupted that made me speechless.
"No matter how long your story is, I will still listen. Because it's you who's talking." Theo said with his serious voice.
He looked at me and I can see in his eyes that he's worried and he doesn't like what he's seeing.
It took him seconds to get his attention back in the road again.
"If you don't want to talk about it now, it's okay. But I'm expecting that you'll open up to me soon. I'll wait until you become comfortable to talk about it with me. I'm always here to listen, Rein." Theo said while still looking on the road with his furrowed eyebrows.
I bowed a little and heaved a sigh.
"Thank you." I whispered then I leaned my body in the seat where I am sitting then I closed my eyes.
"Don't sleep. We're here. I'll just park my car." He said so I resist myself from sleeping but my eyes are still closed. It's kinda relaxing.
"Okay." I responded.
Seconds later, I can feel his car moving back and forth. I think he's doing a reverse parking so we can easily go later.
"Let's go." Theo said when he already parked the car but I still didn't open my eyes.
"Rein, come on." Theo said but I stayed like this.
Seconds later and I didn't hear anything. I was about to open my eyes when Theo suddenly hit me in my forehead.
"Aw!" I exclaimed.
"Do you want to be late? It's already six in the morning." Theo complained then he went out of the car.
He opened the door of my seat then he held my hand to help me in getting out of the car.
"Let's go." He said. He locked the door of his car first then he started to walk so I followed him.
We are peacefully walking towards the entrance of the restaurant when a little boy blocked our way.
"Sir, can you buy these?" The boy said then he showed us two bracelet made from colorful beads. "This is the last two bracelet that I need to sell so I can now buy a breakfast for my sister." He said then he look at Theo, hoping that he's a good guy and he'll help him.
"Hi, kiddo." I said that made him look at me.
"Hello, ma'am." He said then he bowed at me.
"Just call me, Miel." I said then I look at the bracelets that he's holding.
"Can I hold that?" I asked while pointing my index finger to the bracelets.
He nod his head then he gave me the bracelets.
I took it with a smile in my face and look at him.
"These looks so beautiful. Did you make it yourself?" I asked and the boy nod again.
"You did a good job, little boy." I said then I returned it to him.. "Let me buy it." I said then I opened my bag and search for my wallet inside it.
"Hey, he's selling that to me." Theo complained.
I was about to argue with Theo when the little boy suddenly speak.
"Sir, I'm selling two bracelets and these are the only two identical bracelets that I made." Said the little boy so we both looked at him.
"This one is for you, sir" he said then he placed the bracelet in Theo's wrist. "And this one is for Miel." He added then he did the same to me.
Now we're wearing the bracelets.
"The bracelets is twenty pesos each. Can I have it now?" The little boy asked.
"Ah, yeah wait there little boy." Theo said then he took his wallet.
I did it too and get a one thousand bill.
"Here." Theo and I said in chorus and we both hand him a one thousand bill.
"These are too much." The little boy said. "I don't have coins here I can't give you your change---"keep the change, kiddo / keep the change little boy." Theo and I said in chorus again, interrupting what the boy was about to say.
"Really?" He exclaimed. His eyes are sparking and he looks so happy. "These can help me and my sister survive for a week. Thank you so much, sir and Miel." The boy said then he bowed many times at us.
"Go now, kiddo and buy something for your sister." I said.
"I will. Thank you so much. I hope those bracelets will make your relationship more strong." The boy said then he bowed again before leaving.
"You heard what he said? That two thousand pesos that he received from us can help him and her sister survive for a week. How can they do that?" I said to Theo.
"I don't know. It's hard for me to think of it too." He said.
"We're so lucky that we have a good life." I said.
"Yeah." Theo agreed.
"Good morning, ma'am and sir." The guard said when we entered the restaurant.
We both smile at him and talk to the staff who approached us.
"Table for one person, sir?" The girl asked that made me look at her.
"Table for two, miss. I am with her." said Theo then he pointed me using his hand. "I'm sure you're aware of that." Theo said.
"I'm sorry, sir. I thought this girl is a solicitor." The girl looked at me like she just saw something gross.
"She is with me." Theo said with a serious tone. "Now if you have nothing good to say, kindly leave us." Theo said then he called another waiter.
"Yes, sir?" The waiter asked.
"Table for two and please don't let this girl serve us." Theo said, pointing the waitress.
" She doesn't know the word respect. I can't stand people who shame others just to impress people around them.." He added then he held my wrist and pulled me closer to him.
"I'm sorry, sir for the behavior of my colleague. I'll work on it. Please follow me." The waiter politely said then he brought us to a table with two seats. We sat there and the waiter gave us the menu.
"Are you okay?" Theo asked after ordering our foods.
"Yup. I'm used to it. By the way, thank you." I said then I smiled at him.
"Hmmm but you know, you should stop being ugly everyday." Theo suddenly said that made my smile vanished.
"What?" I asked with a sad tone that made him chuckle.
"Kidding." He said then he ruined my hair like he always do.
"Today is the start of your examination, right?" Theo suddenly asked.
"Yup. Why?" I asked.
"I'll go to school starting next week." He answered.
"Ah yeah it's the start of second semester next week. " I said.
"Yeah and we'll go to school together everyday." He announced.
"Okay." I said.
"Here's your order, ma'am and sir." The waiter said then he placed our orders in the table.
"Thank you." Theo and I said in chorus.
"Let's eat." Theo said then we both started to eat.
We ate silently and just talked to each other after eating.
"This is my first time eating in this restaurant and it's so good." I said.
"Yeah me too." Theo said then he wiped his mouth using the table cloth.
"Waiter." He called.
The waiter immediately went towards our table.
"Are you done, ma'am and sir?" He asked.
"Yes." Theo answered.
"Okay then here's your bill, sir." The waiter said then he gave Theo the receipt. Theo took his wallet and paid the waiter.
"Thank you." The waiter said then he bowed at us.
I smiled at him then I stood up.
Theo and I walked towards the exit. When we arrived at the parking area, someone caught my attention.
I saw Ahliya entering a familiar car.
It's the same blue car that Matthew owns.
