Episode 17

★Tina's POV★
My mother offered to drop me off at school today, but I declined. I wanted to drive myself and my little brother, as we did yesterday. However, that wasn't the only reason why I refused her offer. She promised to come and pick us up as soon as school ended. But since I don't plan on going to school today, I must find a way to avoid her.
Aunt Benita's face looked unhappy this morning, and I don't know why. I have to stay hidden from her, so I'm driving to Zara's house to stay with her for the day. When school ends, I'll return home.
I'm currently driving down the highway, with my little brother sitting beside me, sipping on the milk I gave him. After he finished, I took the cup from him and threw it out the window. As we drove on, the high-speed caused the cup to spin and fly through the air, eventually broke into pieces on the bridge.

I arrived at Zara's house and parked my car in front of her compound. Before getting out of the car, I honked the horn loudly to get her attention. I was sure she recognized the sound of my car, so she didn't rush out.
I stepped out of the car and picked up my little brother, who was smiling at me and saying "Yeyeye!" I smiled back at him and asked if he wanted something. He grabbed my finger with his two hands, and I asked again if that was what he wanted. He replied with "Deyeye," and I laughed.
"I don't know what you're saying, little bro, but I'm sure I'll figure it out when you're serious," I said, smiling. I looked around and noticed that Zara hadn't come out of the house yet. I walked closer to her door and called out to her.
"Zara, what the hell are you still doing..." I stopped mid-sentence when I saw that her door was locked with chains and keys that she couldn't afford.
My mind raced as I realized that the CC Group of companies must have come to claim Zara's house. I became furious and ran into the middle of the compound, searching for any sign of her. I called out her name repeatedly but received no response. I knew they must have forced her out, and it was all my fault. I had discouraged her from being prepared for this.
I tried to call her, but her phone was switched off. I wondered where she could have gone. Perhaps she was scared of my mother and didn't want to come to my house. I realized that she might be roaming around the streets, so I decided to go and find her.
I started my car and drove out to search for her. I hoped that my mother wasn't behind this, as she also worked for the CC Group of companies.
But I would find Zara first and then figure out how to solve her problem.
As I was driving down the road, my eyes were constantly scanning for any sign of her. That's when I spotted a lone guy walking by himself. I pulled over gently and called out, "Excuse me, hi?" He stepped back, surprised by my sudden appearance.
"Hi," he replied cautiously.
"I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm looking for someone. Have you seen her?" I asked, hoping for a positive response.
He looked at me with confusion, and I realized that I had forgotten to give him any description of the person I was searching for. My nerves were getting the best of me.
"Sorry, I forgot to mention what she looks like or show you a picture. Do you mind if I show you?" I asked, feeling embarrassed.
He nodded, so I quickly pulled out my phone and showed him a picture of Zara. I felt relieved when he recognized her.
"Oh yes, I know her. I actually saw her recently," he said, and I couldn't help but smile.
"Really? That's great! Can you tell me where you saw her?" I asked eagerly.
He pointed down the street, but I was still confused. "What do you mean?"
"I think you passed her house. She lives just down the street," he explained, and my heart sank.
"Sorry, yes I know where she lives, but have you seen her since last night?" I asked, hoping for a different answer.
He shook his head, and I knew that my search wasn't over yet.
"I don't think so," he replied, and I thanked him with a smile. "Okay, thank you," I said as he nodded.
"Is everything okay?" he asked, and I shook my head. "No, there's no problem. I'm just trying to find her," I assured him.
"Okay, then. Good luck," he said, waving as he walked away. But I stopped him again before he could go too far.
"Excuse me, sir. I'm sorry for bothering you again, but I just wanted to apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused," I said, feeling guilty for taking up his time.
"It's no problem at all," he replied kindly.
"Thank you. Just one more thing, do you happen to know where she usually goes or where you've seen her before?" I asked, hoping for a lead.
"I'm sorry, I haven't seen her anywhere else besides when she's coming back from work. Maybe you should try looking for her at her work place" he suggested.
"Okay, thank you for your help," I said, feeling discouraged. He nodded and left, and I was left feeling lost. But I knew I couldn't give up yet. I had to keep asking around and searching until I found her.
I drove my car to a different location and spotted a group of men sitting. I stepped out of my car, carrying my younger brother, and walked towards them since they were far away.
"Hey, Bethel, there's no need to panic. We just need to keep a low profile while looking for someone else since she's no longer with us," one of them said to another man wearing white.
"Shut the hell up! It's all your fault she died because of your envy," he replied. But it seems I was lost so I didn't get that conversation and still approached them.
"Excuse me, good day," I greeted them. All of them turned to look at me, and I focused on the man in the white outfit who seemed innocent.
"Hi, have you seen her? I'm looking for my friend," I said, showing him picture of Zara on my phone. He glanced at the person next to him before taking my phone and looking at the picture again.
"I think I saw her. Is she your friend?" he asked, and I nodded.
"Yes!, she is. Where is she? I need to see her," I said eagerly. He stood up from his seat and introduced himself.
"Well, I'm Bethel. She told me she was homeless, so I took her in. Would you mind following me to my house so you can see her?" he offered, and I was overjoyed to hear that.
"Absolutely, I would love to go with you! I must see her, and thank you for taking her up n," I replied with gratitude as he shrugged his shoulders.
"It's no problem at all," he responded. "Shall we take my car?" I suggested, hurrying towards my vehicle.
"Of course, but my friends also need to come with us," he said, pointing to the others. I felt a sense of danger when I looked at them, but I trusted him since he already knew some aspects of Zara's story and said she was with him.
"Alright, that's not a problem. They can come along with us," I agreed, and they all joined me in the car as I drove.
Little did I know, I had unwittingly put myself and David in danger.
