Chapter 55 The Resigned Mother
Nora's POV
I had been forgotten.
It was like I didn't exist anymore to the people in the room. I thought it would be good to be left alone but the feeling left a bitter taste in my mouth.
James had his hand on his chin and obviously lost in thought.
Cara had her hands all over Sasha, fussing over her like a stressed mother hen.
Without wasting further time standing there in the living room and feeling like the odd one out in the family that I truly was, I wrapped my hand around the luggage I had with me and turned, heading back to the bedroom.
I sighed against the door as I stepped in, sliding to the floor with my hand pressed against my forehead as I tried to keep my tears in.
Damon didn't want to live with two women but he was barely home. With all his complaints about sharing the house with us, he wouldn't even have to live with us if he didn't want to. All he had to do was to stay late at work as much as he could, wait till we were all asleep and run out of the house before we all stirred up from sleep.
The one who was going to deal with problems was me. I was the one who would have to stay at home all day with Sasha, except she went out and didn't stay home.
I doubted that though. If the looks she kept giving me was anything to judge with, she was going to give me hell for every breath I take in the house.
Regardless of the devil I was about to start living with though and the hell she was about to give me, I was glad that I wasn't going to end up on the streets.
I smiled as I thought of the bump growing in my belly. My smile grew wider as I rubbed my hand gently on my belly, wondering if it was a boy or a girl.
My heart sang with joy as I imagined having a boy that looked exactly like Damon. It would be a delight to have his green eyes shining with love at me unlike the icy annoyance always present in his father's gaze.
I would love him as the gift that he was to me. His presence saved me.
Even if the treasure in my belly was a girl, I wouldn't mind. I would be delighted either way to have someone else to look at in the house.
I allowed myself to daydream for a while and imagined a girl looking like me and still having Damon's features. I imagined a future with Damon and our child. I thought of the three of us on a picnic and smiled at the image of a relaxed Damon carrying his child and playing with her.
The image felt so vivid and beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes.
If only reality was as beautiful as imagination. I sighed as I snapped myself back to reality.
I thought of Damon and my heart sank, dipping low in my stomach as I remembered the horror and rage in his eyes. I wondered what he thought of being a father apart from his parents guilt-tripping him into being concerned for the unborn child.
I hoped Damon wanted this child and I couldn't stop myself from imagining that the child could be the glue I needed to get closer to him.
I remembered Sasha and scowled, realizing that wasn't going to be as easy as it seemed. She would do her best to get Damon's attention, now that there was evidence he had the capability of sleeping with a woman.
The thoughts of Damon sleeping with Sasha sent darts of pain running through my heart. I felt as if someone actually shot arrows at me and unconsciously clutched my chest.
I gathered myself from the ground and pushed myself to the bed. I opened my bag and unpacked my clothes, arranging each of them back in the wardrobe.
I was done within minutes and wondered what I was going to do next. I sighed as I realized that I didn't have much people in my life to reach out.
Earlier during the day, I had thought that I had at least a friend in Gabriella but I had lost the friendship even before it started.
It was certain that Sasha would reach out to everyone I had gotten close to and continue her friendship with them. I didn't have anyone to relate with, both as Nora and as Sasha, and I felt heavy dumbbells of sorrow pressing over my heart.
I wished I had at least one person today to vent to. I wished I had somewhere to go. Sasha would be the one going with Damon to outings and I would be nothing but a well-kept secret. I didn't think I could stay indoors, hidden for as long as the future would be.
If only I had something to keep myself busy with but I doubted that the Bennetts were ever going to let me work, even if I didn't have the risk of getting mistaken as Sasha by their circle hanging over my head.
I accepted that I was all alone once again, as I had always been since childhood and forced back the tears threatening to spill out.
That was enough. I had cried enough to wash away the past if only it was that easy.
I placed my hand on my belly as I laid on the bed, vowing to do everything I could to protect my child.
The baby was going to be the first family I would ever have. Tingles ran through my veins as excitement skyrocketed in my body at the thought of having someone who would love me unconditionally and I could also shower my love on without fear or restraints. I wasn't ever going to let the child feel abandoned and unwanted as I had while growing up, even if the father didn't want it.
I couldn't wait to have my child born and kept my smile in place as I shifted on the bed and drifted off to sleep.
For the first time in a long time, I had something to look forward to and my heart started kicking in fear even as the excitement kept running in my veins.
I hoped life didn't treat me as cruelly as it always did whenever I was about to get happy.Download Novelah App
