The trio were in Mira's room chatting after Sir Roberts left.
" I must say, Sir Roberts is indeed very handsome. I can't help but wonder if he has a son who's around my age. " Evie said dreamily.
" Girl, don't be silly! " Mira said throwing a cushion at Evie.
" Hey, I am not silly. I was just appreciating the work of God in his life, okay? " She said defensively as she wanted to throw back the pillow at Mira. But one glare from Joseph stopped her.
' How frightening! ' she cringed.
" Still, you shouldn't be thinking like that. What if he has a son who is a Playboy? "
" Then, I will just give up okay? You don't have to be so serious alright? "
" Guys, don't you think you are thinking too far? Sir Roberts has never gotten married and so of course doesn't have a child. " Joseph said.
" Oh... But how do you know about that? " Evie questioned.
" I just did a simple background check. "
" Geez! You are so overprotective! "
" Better to be safe than sorry. "
" Ah! "
Just then, Mira's phone dinged.
She checked it and then saw the news. Her countenance changed almost immediately.
" What's wrong, Mira? " Joseph who noticed the slight change in her mood inquired.
" Queen Bee had just been sentenced to three years confinement for attempt murder. " Mira said in a melancholic voice.
She didn't know why but she wasn't feeling happy about the news, though Queen Bee had tried to hurt her, still she didn't want this to happen to her.
Three years of confinement? That's a very long time.
What will happen to her education? Her status? Her pride?
Will Anne be able to take that? Mira couldn't help but wonder.
" Oh... She deserves what she got. But I don't understand why you are feeling sad about it. " Evie said.
" I feel pity for her. "
" You shouldn't! She tried to hurt you! What if you had drowned in the water? "
" But I didn't. "
" What are you saying, Mira? Have you gone nuts? Someone tried to kill you, yet you have still pity for them? If this is not insanity then what Is it? " Evie raised her voice.
" I don't get you, Evie! Just because she tried to hurt doesn't mean I should also feel happy at her misery? If I do that then there would be no difference between me and her! " Stated Mira!
" Still, you shouldn't be feeling this way! "
" Hey, relax girls... " Joseph interrupted them. " You guys really don't have to argue because of this, it's not worth it! If it's about feeling pity for someone who did bad to one. It's normal! That's what's called brokenness! And as a true born again Christain we must all posses this characteristic! We must be willing to love those who hurt us and pray for those who which us bad. " He took a deep breath before continuing..
" Even our Lord Jesus Christ, when he was nailed to the cross by those who hated them. He didn't grumble, he didn't curse them. He did what no one would have ever dared to do! He prayed for them! He asked God to forgive them as he claimed that they weren't aware of what they were doing. Indeed, they didn't know what they were doing... They were too blinded to see the truth! "
" So girls... We shouldn't be happy over other people's misery, it's not Godly. Others might love doing that but we must not engage in that, we must be different! Because, we might be in this world but not of the world! We must always be willing to draw the line when we have to! We mustn't compromise! We can either be cold of hot. We can't be lukewarm! "
" I hope this clears it all... " He sighed.
The room was silent for some minutes before Evie spoke up apologetically. " I am really sorry, guys... I was clouded by my emotions. "
" It's alright... "
" Just try to be more Christ like. " Joseph said..
" So we are settled right? "
" Of course. "
" Just don't scream at Mira about little stuffs again. "
" Alright, Daddy Joseph. "
" Whatever. "
" So we are still going to the orphanage tommorow right? " Evie inquired.
" Yeah... Be right on time. "
" I'll. I have to go home now... "
" Alright... I'll accompany you to the car. " Mira offered.
" No. "
" You should rest. "
Hearing them saying this simultaneously, Mira couldn't help but face palm herself.
" I'll accompany her instead. You should rest Mira. "
" It's okay, Joseph. You Should accompany Mira instead. " Evie said as she exited the room to give the duo some privacy.
" How bossy! " Mira glared at Joseph.
" It's time to sleep. " Joseph said instead completely ignoring her.
" But I don't want to! " Mira protested.
" So what do you want to do? " Joseph's voice softened.
" Um... Why don't you read me a story instead. "
" I don't have stories in mind. "
" Sing instead. "
" Okay... First you have to lie down and cover yourself with blanket. " Joseph said.
" Alright... " Mira nodded as she did as she was told.
Joseph then, sat on a seat by her bedside as he sang her a christain music.
He sang, Oceans in a slow motion, emphasizing every word.
By the time he was half way done with the song, Mira was already asleep.
He covered her well with blanket.
" Goodnight, baby girl... " He pecked her forehead before turning off the main switch leaving the bedside lamp on and walking out of the room.
