Lovett and David went to bring the books while Peter went his own separate destination. But later they all merged in the class. David asked Lovett to share the books to the owners while he concentrate on the names of noise makers. As she shared them they were books reserved separately for a purpose. Godwin’s book, Peter’s book, David and few other people were among. These were those who performed well.
“I like your group” Lovett said to Godwin while giving them their books. Godwin and Peter scored same thing. They lost nothing and so it has been since the commencement of their first term assessment.
“There is something I notice about this girl” Peter said in whispers. Godwin gave him a listening ear.
“It’s not something bad. Anyway, let’s not talk about it now. David won’t spare us”
“Okay, no problem”
The class was quiet. You can find those reading, those copying notes, sleeping and more. But David was still active with his duty. He didn’t stop looking around to find noise makers. If you have had a dispute with him in spite how little you ascertain it, expect to see your name in the list each time he writes, whether you made noise or not. And no teacher or prefect listens to your excuses when he or she comes for the names.
A teacher came in demanding to have the names of the noise makers. David presented it. From afar they could see plenty names on the list. Everyone became anxious. How could he have gotten that number when it was certain to everyone that the class was quiet.
“We discipline you, beat you, scold you, teach you not because we despise you. It’s a father that loves a child that scolds and advice him. We also do all these for the purpose of bringing out the best in you. You are the future of this country. If we teach you well and you adhere properly to our it’s for the good of everyone of us. Both we teachers and you because we don’t know what tomorrow holds for us.
I came here and asked you not to make noise. I can testify some of you took my words in as much as there’s about thirteen names on this list. You tried and for Your obedience I will not beat those who their names are here. Correction is not done only by flogging. I can attest that advice is the best means. Keep it up. Do whatever is right and avoid having problem with teachers. No teacher is wicked. It’s your behaviors that makes them what they become. Try please.
At least you are not like the SS2 who I don’t even know what they think of themselves. They are becoming so stubborn that they threaten teachers. Recently they’ve formed a habit of rejecting some lessons for no definite reason. We are working on that. They can’t decided or change the rules the school already laid. They must abide to what they met. Many have followed the same procedure before them”
The class were happy that the teacher pardoned them.
“I didn’t forbid you to talk but let it be a reasonable one with low voices, preferably, whispers. No running around. I will see you later”
He left leaving the class happy. They liked the way the teacher spoke to them. They were not only going to like him but also respect him.
“I think I like Mr. Jonas” Godwin said to Peter.
“That is how sensitive fellows does. Unlike our form master Mr. Stones, he thinks correction is determined by how many strokes you give to someone. And you can see how students hates him. I’m sure he’s one of the teachers having brawls with the SS2”
“I feel uncomfortable around harsh people. Therefore, I avoid them by all means. And you see, you can hardly learn from that kind of person because fright won’t let you calm down and concentrate”
“That is true”
When the school closed and students were flooding to a single direction. Sarah and his friends walked behind Lovett while Godwin, Peter and David came behind, but a little distance. Sarah was using provoking words on Lovett so that she will involve her into a fight. Lovett also, in other to prove to them that their number doesn’t scare her.
“I am not like you who thought giving out your body can grant you all you need in exchange” Her friends too were contributing and they laugh on each point Sarah makes just to hurt Lovett.
“And I am not like you who is jealous for what you criticize. Stop pretending you don’t want to be in my position”
“If I should jealous should it be for a useless thing like this?”
“Why then has it become your headache on daily basis? You have been restless recently and it’s all about me”
“Mind the way you talk to me”
“Otherwise?”
“You won’t wish to return here tomorrow”
“All right. You’ll have to shut my mouth by yourself”
Lovett did not notice Sarah was rushing up to her until her bag was dragged drastically. By then they were far from the school fence. They began to struggle. Sarah’s friends wanted to help her but before then Godwin and the other friends got near. They raved at the girls to stay away from the two opponents, if not they too will involve. The two girls were allowed to fight without separation. They were surrounded but nobody stopped them. Sarah’s friends were not comfortable watching Lovett roll Sarah on the dusty ground. They left feeling shameful.
“Did I not tell you?” David mock “You rant like you are the strongest warrior on Earth only because you rely on this good for nothing things. They are your confidence which I knew. Now look at you… Punch her mouth so that it will swell and tomorrow she wont come to school”
Sarah was exhausted. She could swing slaps and punches again. All she was struggling was for a chance to go.
“Fill her mouth with earth. Let her have enough of it so that tomorrow when she remember it she will learn how to control her mouth”
“Lovett, I think it’s enough. Let her go” David said. “You are hurting yourself and also wasting your time”
“I am not wasting it for nothing” Lovett replied.
“Lovett!” Godwin called gently, immediately Lovett paused and glanced at him. “Please Stop” She freed Sarah, stood up, took her bag and started checking to know if there’s any damage.
“Well done wonder woman!” David said Lovett smiled.
“At least today she will know you are not the type they can intimidate” Peter said.
“But I don’t advice you to fight again. Look what you have done to your uniform”
“I had no choice. Sorry about that” They started moving. But Lovett was ahead.
“I think she likes you” Peter whispered to Godwin so that Lovett won’t hear them.
“How?”
“She likes talking to you. But I think she’s nervous”
“How?”
“Leave how. Leave it. Are you telling me you didn’t notice anything from what had just happened?”
“She stopped immediately he asked her to. I saw it too” David completed.
“Now, walk with her. It’s an opportunity to know her mind, how do you see it, David?”
“Hey guys, I leave you here” Lovett said. Making them disappointed but they feigned an opposite look.
“All right. Good bye”
They waved. Lovett waved back but her eyes were on Godwin with a lovely smile.
