Maybe then Zachary can be mine. He’ll leave her, and maybe then we can all be together. Maybe I can get him to love Thomas too. My brother looks up again as we finish our food. “Ready?” he asks softly, smiling sadly. “Are you ready to go?” I nod again and smile, hugging Thomas tight to my chest again. “Yes.” My brother smiles too and holds out his hand to help me stand. I take it with a nod of thanks and walk back to his car with him. As the months go by, Zachary and I continue to see each other more and more. We grow closer and closer, and I wonder if he’s falling in love with me. I am falling in love with him, and I want to be with him forever. Today, as I walk into his office with Thomas, he looks at us with a wide smile. “Cait!” he greets happily, standing from his chair behind his desk. “Come here.” He smiles as he motions me over and picks Thomas up from my arms. I smile too as I walk over to them. He kisses Thomas’s forehead lightly as he hugs him close to his chest. “Hi, buddy,” he says happily, smiling up at me. Thomas giggles and smiles back at Zachary as well as he hugs Thomas tighter to his chest. I walk over to kiss Zachary softly. “Hey,” I greet, smiling softly. He smiles back and holds out his arm for me, wrapping it around me lightly. “Hey.” He presses a light kiss against my forehead. “How’ve you been?” I smile again and lean against him, holding Thomas’s hands in mine as they rest on Zachary’s chest. “Good,” I say happily. “How have you been?” Zachary smiles again as he walks back over to his chair. “Good too.” He sits down and motions for me to sit next to him. I smile and take a seat in the other chair as he smiles back at me. “Do you want anything?” he asks softly. “Before we get started?” I shake my head, smiling too. “No.” He nods and smiles again as he sets Thomas in his lap, hugging him tight to his chest again. I smile as well and nod again, looking back down at my paperwork in front of me. At lunchtime, Zachary and I decide to walk to the food trucks together. It’s not far away from the building, so we don’t need to drive. As we walk outside, Zachary wraps his arm lightly around my shoulder, holding Thomas in his other arm. “How is lunch?” he asks happily as we stand in front of the food trucks. I smile back at him and shrug. “Good,” I answer, smiling happily. “How about you?” Zachary smiles too and nods, glancing down at Thomas before looking back up at me. “Good too.” I smile again as we order our food, and Zachary pays for us with a nod and a smile. We walk over to one of the tables under the awning and sit down to eat. “So,” he starts as he sets down his plate. “How has Thomas been doing?” He smiles as he looks at Thomas in my arms. I nod and smile back. “Good. He’s doing good.” Zachary nods and smiles again as well as he begins to eat his lunch. “Good.” We finish lunch in comfortable silence as we eat our food, watching people pass by on the sidewalk. After lunch, Zachary and I walk back inside and back up to his office. As we walk inside, he smiles at me and kisses Thomas lightly as he takes his seat behind his desk again. I smile too and take a seat on the couch. I look up at him as he sits behind his desk, looking through the files on his desk. “Zach?” I ask quietly. He looks up at us again and smiles. “Yes?” I blush as I look away again, fiddling with Thomas’s hair. “Do you think we can...” I start nervously, looking up at him again. “Be a family? You, Thomas, and me?” Zachary looks confused for a moment, and then he smiles again as he nods. “I think that could work,” he says softly. I smile happily as well and stand, walking over to hug him tight to my chest as I hug Thomas in between us. “Really?” I ask excitedly. “You would do that for us?” Zachary smiles and nods as well, kissing Thomas lightly on his head and my forehead. “Really.” He nods again as he smiles again, smiling down at us. I smile too, feeling happy. “Bye,” he says softly, smiling as we pull back slightly. It’s the weekend and I’m heading to work. My favorite part of my new job is that I’m on a first-name basis with the CEO and it’s not frowned upon. Not to mention, he’s sent me multiple texts every day and called me in the middle of the night just to chat. I have to admit, it feels really good being wanted by someone like him. He’s young, successful, good-looking, and powerful. We haven’t taken anything further than kissing and hugging but I feel like we’re growing closer each day. When I arrive at the office, I’m immediately accosted by security. Zachary warned me that I should expect some backlash from Alena after what happened last night. “Hello,” I greet the men. “I’m here to see Zachary.” “You are who, exactly?” One of the guards asks, clearly not impressed. “I’m Caitlin Moore. I’m an employee here,” I reply, trying to smile warmly at them. They exchange skeptical glances and one of them pulls out his phone, dialing a number. “We have a woman by the name of Caitlin Moore asking to see Mr. Edward.”
