Chapter 146
Talia's POV
I ran into the room where his clothes lay neat and folded on the bed. I searched through the pockets if there was anything that could help. Maybe inhalers or whatever.
There was nothing but crisp new bills, and a folded, rolled one. I opened up to see the remains of white powder.
Vance had taken to abusing drugs. But that didn't explain the bleeding.
I went back to the living room and he was already gasping for air.
I ran to the kitchen to get more water and poured it on him. By the time I was done, he was spitting and cursing.
“Clothes.” He demanded.
I brought his clothes not minding that he'd see I had already tampered with them.
With my help, he managed to pull himself up and wear his clothes.
“Why did you continue with the drugs?” I dared to ask him.
“How is that any of your business?” He asked me, even though he was still weak.
“I just care. Even though I shouldn't.” I replied to him.
“You talk too much. Add it to your New Year's resolution.” He said, being very sarcastic.
He still looked weak. I bothered to wipe the dried blood from his nose and mouth.
He still looked weak, but far better.
“Give me something to eat.” He continued.
“Go check for yourself.” I replied to him.
“You don't have to be sassy.” Vance told me.
"I was still somewhat uncomfortable from the whole situation. He came in trying to rape me, collapsed and passed out, and there we were sat opposite each other in a very tight space.
I went into the room, making sure I threw all his stuff out and bolted myself in there with all the locks.
I knew he was weak and helpless, but I wasn't willing to risk whatever again.
He's Alpha and was already gaining his strength back.
While I stayed in, I put my hands in between my legs, and felt for anything that could have been a result of penetration. There was none.
I could not have been more grateful. At least he didn't consume me while I was defenseless.
I was still yet to wrap my head around the reason for what he did, but in hindsight, he really did look like he was on drugs.
I remained locked there, deciding that inside the room alone was far better than being with Vance.
I kept frantically hoping and wishing that he would go away, the more I did, the more sounds I heard. The day was passing fast, and so was my strength.
I hadn't had anything good to eat in a while.
I remained there for an additional hour before deciding to brave it and going out in search of food.
I unlocked the door with utmost care and quiet.
I heard no sound, regardless, I was careful to the bone.
On tiptoes, I went to the kitchen where I saw Vance sprawled and wasted away on the floor.
I nearly screamed in shock, but I managed to hold myself.
I knew the key had to be somewhere. Determined not to waste the chance of escape that the universe had presented to me, I went around, looking for it.
Vance never carried a purse, so that was out of question.
The only place I suspected it could be was his pockets, and I had already emptied those. .
I began to feel jittery.
“You can't give up! You can't waste this chance.” I told myself.
I started searching all the weird places. For all I knew it could have been in any nook or cranny of that house.
I searched all the flower pots one by one. I searched the windows, everywhere in the bloody house.
There was nothing.
Before long, I began to hear footsteps.
It was a good and bad thing. Vance's men had come for him, but they would most definitely murder me in cold blood if I attempted to escape.
I went to the door and stayed behind it very quietly.
I heard hushed and quick whispers. They deliberated among themselves a couple of times, before one decided to open the door.
I didn't trust myself enough to not do something silly. To distract myself from my escape that was very near at hand, I held on to my hair tight, feeling it and tugging at it.
Finally the door was open, as it flung in my direction, but I made no sound. .They entered and made loud noises while calling for Vance.
I'm sure they knew to be careful, as he could be naked, which he almost was.
Praying that Moon Goddess grant me my escaped, I, very quietly opened the door a bit, as gently as I could that could pass for breeze blowing it even though the door was very heavy. I finally saw the men. Big gruff kill monsters, Vance had them for any kind of purpose.
I snuck out, hoping the darkness that was already enveloping the flat was covered enough.
My body was over tense. I could feel my muscles straining from intense contraction.
In the blink of an eye, I was free, I was out.
But it wasn't the time to celebrate.
Getting out of the flat was one thing, getting out of the building was another.
I took the stairs, wanting to avoid the elevators. I knew that they would find Vance in no time and be on their way down.
As quietly but confidently as I could, and quickly too, I ran down the stairs to my freedom. A few people came to peep, but I just could not care.
Thankfully, the door leading from the stairway to outside the building was open.
But I knew there had to be a catch to it. It wasn't usually open. Not unless someone was using it.
As quietly as I could, I looked out into the pitch black darkness and saw Vance's car, on, blaring lights from all sides. I also saw two more men beside it.
They were going to find Vance alive, for sure, but they were going to find him wasted and without company.
It was no science that they would be on my tail.
Apart from Isla’s torn clothes, I took a bed cloth with me. If I wanted to escape them, I knew I had to change my appearance. I took the clothes off and tossed them under the stairway.
Satisfied at his I looked I walked out as confidently as I could, even took a curious look in their direction, and walked off.
As soon as I made my first bend, I ran like a mad woman, not caring what direction I took.
There were a few people on the road, but I wasn't recognisable, so I didn't bother.
I only collapsed out of hunger. Then I remembered that I hadn't taken any food. Thankful, for my escape, I waited for what lay in store next for me.
It was a happy and sad moment. I was free, but I was Vance's enemy. Download Novelah App
