Emma’s POV
I smiled thinly, trying to be professional and not respond further. “Thank you, Mr. David. We can start discussing the project proposal after dinner.”
David chuckled and tried to touch my arm. “Ah, Emma, relax. We don’t always have to talk about work, do we?”
I was starting to feel uncomfortable, and before I could think of a way out of this situation, Logan suddenly appeared from the other direction. He walked over with a determined stride, his face serious. “Excuse me, David, but Emma has to finish her work soon. My staff is only here today, and we have to go home soon.”
I was surprised, not expecting Logan to intervene. But inside, I felt relieved. David immediately removed his hand from my arm and looked a little nervous with Logan’s dominating presence. “Oh, sure, sure. Then, let’s continue the discussion another time.”
Logan gave David a sharp look before turning to me. “Come on, Emma, let’s have lunch somewhere else. I’ve prepared for it.”
I followed Logan without protest. Inside, I felt lucky that Logan had once again saved me from an unpleasant situation. As we walked out of the restaurant, I couldn’t help but ask, “Do you know what he did?”
Logan turned to me, his face still calm. “I could see it from afar. I wouldn’t let anyone cross the line with you, especially at work.”
I paused for a moment, feeling something warm in my chest. Although his manner seemed a little protective, I knew Logan just wanted to make sure I didn’t get into a difficult situation.
We walked to a small restaurant located further away from the main area of the resort. It seemed quieter and more private, away from the crowds. When we entered, Logan had already made reservations, and everything was ready. The food was served on the table, the enticing aroma making my stomach growl immediately.
“Why are you doing all this, President Logan?” I asked as we sat down. My voice was soft, full of confusion.
Logan stared at me for a moment before answering, “Because I care about you, Emma. You work too hard, and I don’t want to see you in an uncomfortable situation. Plus, I feel responsible for making sure you’re safe, both on and off the job.”
I paused, unsure of how to respond. Logan wasn’t just a boss, he was someone who truly cared about me. But his confession last night about his feelings made things more complicated.
Our lunch was a quieter affair. Even though I still felt the unspoken feelings between us, I tried to enjoy the moment. At least for now, I could enjoy some time without having to think too much about it. But I knew that after this, I would have to face those feelings and figure out what I really felt about Logan.
The quiet lunch gave us a chance to organize our thoughts. I stole glances at Logan a few times, feeling like there was a lot left unresolved between us. His words from last night were still ringing in my ears, and even though I tried to ignore them, I knew I couldn't just forget them.
"You don't have to say anything now, Emma," Logan said suddenly, his voice soft but full of determination.
I flinched. "What do you mean?" I asked quietly.
Logan put down his fork and stared at me deeply, his gaze as if trying to penetrate the layers of my feelings. "I know there's a lot on your mind. About us, about my feelings. But I don't want you to feel pressured. Take as much time as you need."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm the anxiety that suddenly overflowed. "President Logan, I... I don't know what to say."
Logan smiled faintly, though there was a hint of sadness behind it. "You don't have to say anything, Emma. I told you last night, I'll still be here. Whatever you decide, I'll respect it."
It felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest hearing his words. However, on the other hand, the mixed feelings remained. I knew Logan was a good man, someone who sincerely wanted to protect me and the kids. But was I ready to let someone back into my life?
The food was almost finished when Logan suddenly stood up from his chair. "Come on, we have to get back to your work before it gets too late."
I nodded slowly, still not knowing how to resolve all the feelings that were raging inside me. But one thing was for sure, Logan was someone who made me feel safe, and that was more than enough for now.
As we walked back to my workplace, Logan kept his distance, but his quiet presence still felt like a calming presence that I somehow missed more than I wanted to admit.Download Novelah App
