Ariane’s POV
“You are very good at serving customers. You are also beautiful,” the florist said with a warm smile. The words made me feel proud, and I couldn’t help but smile in response.
“Thank you,” I replied, feeling the pleasure in the compliment. All my efforts and hard work felt like they had paid off when I heard such positive words.
“Are you married?” he asked again, looking at me curiously.
For a moment, I was silent. This question tickled my mind, bringing me to ponder the reality I was facing. Should I honestly say that I was divorced and pregnant? How would he react?
“I...” my voice trailed off a little, searching for the right words. “I was married, but now I’m divorced,” I finally said, trying to explain without revealing too many details. “Right now, I’m pregnant.”
Her face changed, seemingly a little surprised but then showing a sympathetic expression. “I don’t mean to intimidate you. I hope everything is okay. The good news is, you look strong and full of spirit,” she said in a reassuring tone.
Thank you for the understanding she showed. “I try to stay positive and focus on the future,” I replied, feeling a little relieved to be able to share some of my story.
She nodded, seeming to understand. “Everyone has their own story and struggles. The most important thing is that you are here now and working towards a better future. If you need support, I am here to help you.”
This kind of flattery and support is exactly what I need. It gives me a new strength; that I am not alone in this journey.
We continue to work at the shop, and as I combine my activities with caring for flowers, I feel that every experience I face—both good and bad—only strengthens me as a woman and as a mother-to-be. I can’t wait to see what’s ahead for me, and I am ready to face any challenges in life.
Working from morning to evening made me feel very tired, but the tiredness was paid off with a fairly satisfactory salary, especially since I received my salary once a week. Getting into this new routine gave me the confidence and stability I had been longing for, especially as I prepared to welcome the twins who were about to be born.
However, as I was about to go home, I suddenly met Isabella, my half-sister. Seeing her made me feel anxious, and the next second, before I could respond, she pushed me back a few steps.
“What did you do to Leon that made him leave me?” she asked, her tone filled with hatred and accusation.
A feeling of anxiety enveloped my heart. I didn’t want to confront Isabella, but seeing her like this triggered a deep sense of hurt. “Isabella, it’s not my fault. Leon and I have separated, and I don’t control his decisions,” I replied, trying to stay calm even though my heart was in turmoil.
“But why did he leave me? It’s clear that this has something to do with you!” Isabella insisted, looking angry and frustrated. “You took him away from me!”
A bitter taste appeared in my mouth. “You know it’s not that simple. Our relationship was already complicated before I divorced her. I don’t know how else to explain this to you,” I said, carefully choosing my words.
In front of me, Isabella looked very emotional. Her eyes were filled with anger and sadness. “You’re a selfish woman, Ariane! It all ended with you. This is all your fault!”
Her words were like sharp blades piercing my soul, but I knew I couldn’t let this anger get the better of me. “Isabella, I’ve suffered with the decisions I’ve made. I’ve struggled with this pregnancy and everything that’s happened. I didn’t mean to hurt you,” I said, my voice shaking slightly but still trying to control my emotions.
Slowly, the situation seemed to escalate, and I realized that further discussion was pointless. “I want to leave,” I said, turning away, trying to avoid further confrontation.
However, before I could leave, Isabella shouted, “I’ll show Leon your head! He deserves to know who you really are!”
Taking a deep breath, I felt my heart tremble—between anger, confusion, and sadness. “If that’s what you want, then do it. I will no longer chase anyone or let negative words affect my life. My love for Leon is over,” I replied without turning around.
With firm steps, I left Isabella behind. As I walked away, my heart trembled. I didn’t want to carry this burden any further, and I was determined to move on with my life without the burden of competition or other people’s anger. Now was the time to focus on myself and the children to come.
“What did you do to Ariane!” Leon’s voice was loud and thunderous around me as he pushed Isabella’s body until she fell to the ground. I was shocked, not expecting him to appear in the midst of this dangerous situation.
Seeing Leon defend me so deeply shook my heart. In all our time together, I never thought he would act like this. Isabella was silent for a moment, looking shocked and angry, while I was confused by the dramatic change in the situation.
“She didn’t do anything to you, Isabella. This is enough. Why do you keep looking for trouble?” Leon said firmly. There was something strong and protective in his voice that brought a little bit of calm.
“Leon, you don’t understand!” Isabella touched her injured body, standing up heavily and looking at him with hatred. “She took everything from me! You should be with me, not her!”
“Don’t make this harder!” Leon replied, looking very frustrated. He then turned to me, his eyes searching for understanding amidst the chaos. “Ariane, are you okay?”Download Novelah App
