Chapter 22 Power Plays

Blair sat in her private suite at the Ritz, her mind racing with calculations. She had spent years building Whales Enterprises into one of the most influential tech companies in the world. Now, it was time to use that influence to outmaneuver Vincent.
As the city skyline twinkled outside the window, she opened her laptop and began drafting a series of orders. Her wealth wasn’t just a status symbol—it was a weapon, and she intended to wield it with precision.
The next day, Blair convened a meeting with her most trusted executives via a secure video call. Lena, wearing her Blair disguise, sat at the head of the table, playing her part as the public face of the company.
“Here’s the plan,” Blair said, her voice commanding. “I want an immediate acquisition of Vincent’s supply chain. Any company tied to his operations—whether it’s shipping, logistics, or manufacturing—buy them out. Quietly.”
One executive hesitated. “Ms. Whales, that kind of move will raise eyebrows in the industry. It could take weeks to secure all the assets—”
“We don’t have weeks,” Blair interrupted. “I want results by the end of the week. Money isn’t an issue. Make them offers they can’t refuse.”
Lena leaned forward, adding an air of authority. “And ensure the acquisitions are untraceable to us. Use shell corporations if necessary. We can’t afford to tip Vincent off.”
The executives nodded, and the meeting ended with a flurry of activity. Blair turned to Lena, a sly smile on her face. “You’re getting good at this.”
Lena smirked. “Well, it helps that I’m wearing your face.”
Blair chuckled, but her amusement faded quickly. “This isn’t just about cutting off Vincent’s resources. It’s about sending a message: he’s not untouchable.”
Later that evening, Blair unveiled her latest investment: a custom-designed, state-of-the-art personal defense system for Lena.
The device, called the Aegis Field , was a multimillion-dollar prototype developed by a cutting-edge military contractor. It created an invisible force field around the wearer, capable of deflecting bullets, knives, and other physical threats.
Blair held up the sleek, wristwatch-like device. “This is your new best friend. It’ll keep you safe while you’re out there as me.”
Lena stared at the device, her eyes wide. “Blair, this must’ve cost a fortune.”
“Pocket change,” Blair said dismissively. “Your safety is worth more than any amount of money.”
Lena hesitated, then took the device, strapping it to her wrist. “Thank you. I mean it.”
Blair’s expression softened. “Just promise me you’ll use it. If anything happens to you while you’re wearing my face, I’ll never forgive myself.”
Blair’s efforts to dismantle Vincent’s operations began to bear fruit. His shipments were delayed, his warehouses mysteriously shut down, and his suppliers suddenly backed out of deals.
But as Blair’s team celebrated their progress, a new development threw them off course.
Kai burst into the room, a look of excitement on his face. “I found something!”
He placed a file on the table, filled with documents linking Gabriel Whales to a secret offshore account. The account had been used to funnel money to one of Vincent’s shell companies.
Blair’s stomach dropped as she scanned the documents. “This can’t be right. My father would never fund criminals.”
Kai shrugged. “The evidence is solid. The account was in his name, and the transactions match his financial records.”
Blair’s hands trembled as she closed the file. “If this is true... then my father wasn’t a victim. He was a collaborator.”
The room fell silent. Even Jax, who usually had a sarcastic comment ready, looked uneasy.
Lena placed a hand on Blair’s shoulder. “We don’t know the full story yet. Maybe there’s an explanation.”
Blair nodded, but doubt gnawed at her. Could she have been wrong about her father all along?
While Lena attended another public event in her role as Blair, Vincent’s men made their move.
As Lena exited the building, flanked by security, a sniper took aim from a nearby rooftop. The shot rang out, sending the crowd into a panic.
But the bullet never reached its target. The Aegis Field activated, deflecting the projectile harmlessly to the ground.
Lena’s security team sprang into action, whisking her away to safety. Meanwhile, Blair, watching the chaos unfold through a live feed, clenched her fists in frustration.
“Vincent’s getting desperate,” Jax said, standing behind her.
Blair nodded. “Which means we’re getting closer.”
Determined to uncover the truth about her father, Blair dove into the offshore account records. Hours of painstaking analysis led her to a crucial discovery: the account had been opened under false pretenses, using forged documents.
Blair’s heart raced as she pieced it together. Her father hadn’t funded Vincent’s operations—he had been framed.
She leaned back in her chair, a wave of relief washing over her. “He’s innocent,” she whispered.
Kai, who had been monitoring her progress, looked up. “What did you find?”
Blair held up the documents. “The account wasn’t his. Someone set him up.”
Jax frowned. “Why go to all that trouble to frame him?”
“To cover their tracks,” Blair said. “My father must’ve found out about Vincent’s operations. They killed him to silence him, then made it look like he was involved.”
Lena entered the room, still shaken from the assassination attempt. “So what’s our next move?”
Blair’s eyes burned with determination. “We expose Vincent and Ronan for what they are. And we make them pay—for my father, and for everyone else they’ve hurt.”
