As Seyun, Aiden, and Mina hurried back through the twisting maze, the atmosphere shifted, thick with tension and anticipation. Every shadow seemed to loom larger, every sound amplified, as if the maze itself were watching them.
“Do you think Nora and Aiden made it back yet?” Mina asked, her voice tinged with worry.
“I hope so,” Seyun replied, glancing over his shoulder. “We need to regroup and figure out our next move before the second trial starts.”
Aiden shook his head, trying to mask his unease. “I just hope the others are okay. The maze can be deadly, and we can’t afford to lose anyone else.”
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed through the corridors, causing all three of them to jump. “What was that?” Mina exclaimed, her eyes wide with fear.
“Sounds like it came from up ahead,” Seyun said, instinctively gripping the hilt of his sword. “Let’s check it out.”
They rushed down the corridor, the light from Aiden’s flashlight flickering as they approached the source of the noise. As they turned the corner, they found themselves facing a group of players huddled together, clearly shaken.
“What’s going on?” Seyun called out as they approached.
One of the players, a girl with a frantic look in her eyes, turned to them. “It’s terrible! There are monsters roaming the maze—real monsters, not just the other players!”
“What do you mean?” Aiden asked, confused. “Are they attacking?”
“Yes! I saw one just a few minutes ago. It was huge and covered in shadows, moving faster than anything I’ve ever seen,” she explained, her voice trembling. “It chased us until we found this spot.”
Seyun felt a chill run down his spine. “We need to warn the others. They could be in danger too.”
Before anyone could respond, another player shouted from the back of the group, “Look out! It’s coming!”
The group erupted into panic as a dark shape loomed at the end of the corridor, moving with an unnatural speed. Seyun squinted, trying to make out the figure, and his heart dropped as he recognized the silhouette.
“It’s one of the undead!” he shouted, raising his sword. “Get ready to fight!”
The creature, a grotesque amalgamation of flesh and shadow, charged forward with a guttural roar, its eyes glowing with a menacing light. Seyun took a step forward, determined to protect his friends.
“Stay back!” he commanded, swinging his sword to ward off the advancing undead. “We’ll hold it off!”
Aiden stepped beside him, brandishing his weapon. “We need to push it back. We can’t let it reach the others!”
As they prepared for the fight, the undead lunged at them, its claws swiping through the air. Seyun dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack, and countered with a swing of his sword.
“Watch out!” Mina shouted, her voice piercing through the chaos. She hurled a rock at the creature, aiming for its head, but it only seemed to enrage it further.
“Just aim for the center! That’s where its core must be!” Seyun yelled, feeling a surge of adrenaline.
Together, they fought against the undead, weaving in and out, striking at its exposed flesh whenever possible. It howled in fury, thrashing wildly, but Seyun and Aiden managed to hold their ground.
“Are you okay?” Aiden shouted over the noise, glancing at Seyun.
“Yeah, just keep attacking!” Seyun grunted, ducking beneath another wild swipe.
As the battle raged on, Seyun caught sight of a familiar figure rushing down the corridor—Nora and Aiden had returned.
“Help us!” Seyun shouted, waving them over. “We’re dealing with the undead!”
Nora’s eyes widened as she took in the scene, but her determination shone through. “We won’t let you down!”
The three of them joined the fray, striking at the undead from multiple angles. Together, they fought with everything they had, but the creature was relentless, clawing and snapping at them.
“I can’t keep this up much longer!” Aiden panted, sweat dripping down his forehead. “What’s the plan?”
“Just hold on!” Seyun replied, his heart racing. “We need to find a weakness. There has to be something we can exploit!”
Just then, a loud crack echoed through the corridor as the undead swung its arm, sending Nora sprawling to the ground. “Nora!” Seyun shouted, panic gripping him.
“I’m fine!” she yelled, struggling to get back up. “Just—keep it busy!”
With renewed urgency, Seyun charged forward, feeling the weight of their lives on his shoulders. He dodged another attack, narrowly escaping its grasp, and aimed for the glowing core in the center of the creature’s chest.
“Now!” Seyun shouted, rallying his friends. “On three! One… two… three!”
They all struck simultaneously, their weapons connecting with the undead’s core. A blinding light erupted from the impact, and the creature let out a final, agonized howl before collapsing into a heap of shadowy ashes.
Breathing heavily, the group stood in silence for a moment, processing what had just happened. 
“Is everyone okay?” Seyun asked, scanning the faces of his friends.
“I think so,” Aiden replied, still catching his breath. “But we need to move quickly. More will come.”
Nora nodded, brushing dust off her clothes. “We can’t linger here. We need to find a way to escape this maze before it gets worse.”
“Right,” Seyun agreed, feeling the urgency of their situation. “Let’s regroup and plan our next move.”
As they moved away from the remains of the undead, a low rumble echoed through the corridors, and the voice returned, ominous and foreboding.
“The second trial begins now! Prepare yourselves for the race of your lives.”
“What does that mean?” Mina asked, her voice trembling.
“It means we need to be ready for anything,” Seyun replied, steeling himself for whatever challenges lay ahead. “Let’s stick together, and we’ll make it through this.”
With determination fueling them, Seyun led his friends deeper into the maze, ready to face whatever trials awaited them. They had fought hard to survive, and they would do whatever it took to emerge victorious.
