One Friday afternoon, as the final school bell rang, Lily caught up with Alex at his locker.
"Hey, Alex! Do you want to come over to my house this weekend? We could watch some movies or explore the forest again," Lily suggested, her eyes bright with excitement.
Alex hesitated, glancing out the window at the setting sun. "Um, I'd like to, but I can't stay out late."
Lily frowned slightly. "Why not? Is there something you have to do every evening?"

Lily decided to change the subject. "Okay, maybe another time. So, what are you doing tonight?"
Alex looked down, avoiding her gaze. "I just have some stuff to take care of. But thanks for the invite, Lily. I appreciate it."
Lily's curiosity was piqued. "Alright, but if you ever want to hang out, just let me know."
Alex gave her a small smile. "I will. See you on Monday, Lily."
As Alex walked away, Lily felt a pang of frustration. She wanted to be friends with him, but he always seemed to put up walls whenever she tried to get closer.
The following week, Lily decided to pay more attention to Alex's behavior. She noticed that he was always gone by sunset. One day after school, as they were walking home, she decided to ask him directly.
"Alex, can I ask you something?" Lily began cautiously.

Lily took a deep breath. "Why do you always disappear when the sun starts to set? It's like you have a curfew or something."

The next day, Lily decided to talk to Emma about her concerns. During lunch, she brought up the topic.
"Emma, have you noticed anything strange about Alex?" Lily asked, taking a bite of her sandwich.

Emma's eyes widened. "That is strange. Maybe he's hiding something."

Lily considered this. "Yeah, maybe. I'll see if he wants to hang out after school today. Maybe if I can get him to open up a little, he'll tell me what's going on."
After school, Lily found Alex by his locker. "Hey, Alex! Do you want to grab some ice cream or something?"
Alex hesitated, glancing at the clock. "I can't stay out late, remember?"
Lily smiled. "Just for a little while. We can be quick."
Alex seemed to think about it before finally nodding. "Alright, but just for a little while."
They walked to the ice cream shop, the warm afternoon sun making the walk pleasant. As they sat down with their ice cream, Lily decided to broach the subject again.
"Alex, can I ask you something personal?" Lily began.
Alex looked wary but nodded. "Sure."

Alex nodded, his expression serious. "Yes. That's why I can't be out after dark. It's why I have to go home before the sun sets. I don't want to hurt anyone."
