Chapter 80: Successive Sadnesses

In the dimly lit room, Nancy struggled to sit up. Her whole body was aching, blue-purple marks were imprinted on her thin white skin.
Nancy didn't know how long she had been unconscious, but through the gap of the high-quality silk curtain, she saw that it was already late afternoon.
Hearing Dylan's steady breathing, she guessed that he was still sleeping, so she quickly adjusted her clothes and hurriedly left.
It was now rush hour, and the taxi carrying Nancy merged into the crowded traffic. The sky was covered in a gray color. In the distance, a pair of late birds were flying back to their nests. Her mind was filled with resentment and indignation.
Her feelings for him seemed to have disappeared, obscured in the mist. She wanted what happened today to quickly sink into oblivion, just consider it as her atonement with him, from now on, she hoped that no one would hate each other anymore.
Not long after Nancy left, Dylan suddenly woke up. He looked around but couldn't see her, so he quickly put on his clothes and hurriedly ran downstairs to the reception desk.
“Where is the girl who was with me?” Dylan asked urgently.
“President, she left about ten minutes ago.” The receptionist bowed her head and replied.
After the technical department staff reviewed the camera and reported the vehicle number, Dylan quickly chased after her. His heart hurt so much, he couldn't bear to lose her like this.
Life is so cruel. If fate has let him meet her again, why let her slip away from his grasp again?
The afternoon rain suddenly poured down on the sidewalks, surprising everyone.
The wind blew the trees, the leaves were soaked, sweeping away the hustle and bustle, and the water curtain gradually erased the stream of cars rushing back and forth.
The taxi stopped in front of a pharmacy according to the passenger's request. Nancy paid and hurriedly got out of the car, running into the pharmacy. The female pharmacist looked at her and smiled slightly.
“Get me the emergency contraceptive pill.” Nancy said as if urging.
“Yes.” The female pharmacist replied and quickly took it and gave it to her.
“Thank you.” Nancy took the pill and hurriedly opened the water bottle.
Before she could drink, the medicine and water were suddenly thrown onto the floor. Nancy looked up in panic.
Dylan was standing in front of her, his shirt hanging out, not neatly tucked in like usual. This was also the first time she saw him looking so disheveled.
Dylan's eyes burned with anger. He grabbed Nancy and dragged her to the car. She used her strength to punch his arm, trying to escape.
“Let go, let go of me.”
When they arrived, Dylan took the key to open the gate and continued to drag her into the house. Nancy's whole body was pushed down onto the sofa by him.
She quickly stood up, tears continuously falling. Every time she stood up, he pushed her back down.
“Nancy, we're getting married soon, I want you to give birth to my child.”
“Are you crazy? I will never marry you.”
After saying that, she quickly ran away. Dylan chased after her, blocking the door. He felt pain when he saw her hitting his body, not physical pain but pain that penetrated his heart.
“Why? Giving birth to my child makes you so resentful?” He grabbed her shoulders, held them tightly, and asked in a harsh voice.
“I can give birth to anyone's child, as long as it's not you.”
A tear fell from Dylan's eye. He didn't expect that when her body belonged to him, her heart would still be so distant.
After all, in all those years they grew up together, she didn't even have any feelings for him. He loved her more than his own life, but in return, she used him to find a place to stay.
The images of the past flooded back and overwhelmed Dylan's mind, his hands squeezed her shoulders tightly, and his teeth clenched.
“Do you know you've reached my limit? Giving birth to another man's child? You want him to die without a whole body, right?”
Dylan screamed and pushed Nancy, causing her to fall to the floor. She glared at him, her face as cold as winter frost, and said coldly.
“Okay, let me tell you, if there is a baby, I will take it out before it takes shape. Let's see who is more heartless.”
Nancy's words extinguished the anger that was burning in Dylan's heart. The hands that reached out to help her suddenly stopped, floating in the air.
He felt like he was a wanderer abandoned by his relatives. Slowly standing up, he spoke sadly.
“I'll go buy it for you. Wait for me.”
Looking at the tall and thin figure of the man gradually disappearing into the afternoon rain, Nancy's tears flowed again, her sobs mixed with the sound of the rain. The small house now had only her left, alone in resentment.
When Dylan returned, Nancy had locked the door from the inside, so he couldn't open it, so he reluctantly pushed the contraceptive pill pack in through the gap below. He kept standing in front of the door, letting the rain make his whole body wet.
After a long time, the rain stopped, and the cold air filled every corner. The trees on the side of the road were gloomy and sulky like children who had just woken up from their afternoon nap. The fading light of the day gradually left, darkness crept in, and the silence made people's hearts sob.
The phone in Dylan's hand vibrated slightly, he was frustrated, didn't look to see who was calling, brought it straight to his ear, and pressed the answer button.
“Mr. Dylan, your mother passed away.” Jenny's voice on the other end of the phone was sobbing.
If anyone asked Dylan when he was saddest, it was probably now. He just lost the heart of the girl he loved and also lost his mother. He rushed out and drove away unconsciously. The rain this afternoon haunted him for the rest of his life, the miserable screams rising in his heart.
When Dylan arrived, he stood motionless, looking at the bed covered with white cloth. It took a while before he was able to lift his legs and approach the bed.
His trembling hands pulled down the fabric and he vaguely heard the sad voice of the hospital director behind him.
“She has continuously had a fever since early afternoon, and now her heart has stopped beating. We tried to contact you but you didn't answer the phone.”
“I want to stay with her for a while.” He said in a low voice.
Everyone quietly left, leaving space for him and his mother. Dylan grabbed Camila's hand and knelt. Bitter tears rolled down his face, his sobbing echoed in the cold room.
All his dreams and plans for happy days were buried under the rain this afternoon. He also missed the chance to be with his mother in her final moments.
When he took Nancy to the hotel, he turned off his phone because he didn't want anyone to bother him. It wasn't until he bought emergency contraceptive pills and returned, seeing her lock the door, that he turned it on to call her.
It wasn't until the evening when Lyle and Dylan had taken Camila's body to the funeral home and finished everything, that Wynn showed up.
Because of an accident in the afternoon, the filming crew ended a bit late, and the road from the filming location to the city was quite far, he had to take Rose home, so he was late.
Wynn sighed sadly, secretly feeling sorry for Camila, in the end, she couldn't wait until her son got married.
No one dared to interfere or ask about Dylan's private matters, so neither Wynn nor Lyle knew that he was hiding his past from Nancy, not letting her see his mother.
