Chapter 5: Survival.

As soon as Alex was gone, I let out a sigh of relief and turned to Jack. "Thanks for handling that," I said, genuinely grateful for his presence.
Jack nodded, his expression still neutral. "It's my job, miss. I'm here to keep you safe."
I smiled, feeling a sense of appreciation for this man who had been thrust into my life. "I know, and I'm glad you're here. I don't know what I would have done if Alex had shown up and I was alone."
With that, I pulled out my phone and dialed Rachel's number, eager to fill her in on the latest developments. As soon as she answered, I launched into a detailed account of Alex's visit and Jack's timely intervention.
Rachel listened attentively, her gasps and murmurs of outrage and support punctuating my narrative. "Wow, that's crazy!" she exclaimed when I finished. "I'm so glad Jack was there to send Alex packing. You don't need that kind of drama in your life."
I nodded, even though she couldn't see me. "I know, right? I'm really glad my dad hired Jack. He's already proven himself to be useful."
Rachel chuckled. "Well, I'm glad your dad is taking your safety seriously. And I'm glad you have Jack to watch your back. You deserve it, after all you've been through."
I smiled, feeling grateful for my friend's support. "Thanks, Rach. That means a lot coming from you."
We chatted for a few more minutes, discussing everything from our plans for the weekend to our favorite TV shows. By the time we hung up, I was feeling more relaxed and centered, thanks to Rachel's calming presence in my life. And as I glanced over at Jack, who was standing discreetly in the background, I felt a sense of gratitude for this new addition to my life, who was already making me feel safer and more protected.
As I headed out of my house, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. It had been two days since Alex's attempted visit, and there had been no further signs of him trying to insert himself back into my life. I was grateful for the peace and quiet, and for the presence of Jack, who had become my constant companion.
Speaking of Jack, he was now not only my bodyguard but also my driver. My dad had decided that it would be best if Jack was the one to drive me around, given the potential threats that might still be lurking. I had to admit, it was a bit of an adjustment getting used to having a bodyguard-driver, but Jack was professional and courteous, and he made me feel safe.
As we pulled out of my driveway, I settled into the backseat of the car, checking my phone for any messages. Jack glanced at me in the rearview mirror, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled. "Where to, miss?" he asked, his voice low and smooth.
I smiled back at him. "The mall, please, Jack. I've got some shopping to do today."
He nodded, his eyes returning to the road as he navigated through the streets. I watched him, feeling a sense of gratitude towards my dad for hiring him. Jack was more than just a bodyguard - he was a presence, a reassurance that I was safe and protected.
As we arrived at the mall, Jack pulled up to the entrance and got out to open my door. I smiled at him, feeling a bit like a celebrity with my own personal driver and bodyguard. "Thanks, Jack," I said, as he helped me out of the car.
He nodded, his eyes scanning the surrounding area before returning to me. "I'll be here, miss. Take your time shopping."
I nodded, feeling a sense of freedom as I walked into the mall. I knew Jack was watching over me, and that gave me the confidence to enjoy my shopping trip without worrying about my safety.
As I continued to browse through the racks of clothes, my mind preoccupied with finding the perfect outfit, I suddenly heard a familiar voice behind me. "Follow me through the back door," it said, the tone low and urgent.
My heart skipped a beat as I turned around, my eyes scanning the area to locate the source of the voice. And then, I saw him - my mystery savior, the same man who had saved me from that attack just a few nights ago.
He walked past me, his eyes locked on mine for a brief moment before he continued towards the back door of the store. My mind raced with questions - what did he want? Why was he here? And, most importantly, should I follow him?
But as I stood there, frozen in indecision, my rational thinking kicked in. No, I wouldn't allow myself to be killed by curiosity. I had no idea what this man's intentions were, and I wasn't about to blindly follow him into some unknown situation.
So, I stayed put, watching as he disappeared through the back door. My heart was still racing, but my mind was clear - I was not going to put myself in harm's way, no matter how intriguing this mystery man might be.
I took a deep breath and turned back to my shopping, trying to focus on the task at hand. But my mind kept wandering back to the mystery man, wondering what he wanted and why he had chosen to appear in my life again.
As I continued to browse through the racks of clothes, lost in my own thoughts, I suddenly heard the sound of the entrance door being kicked open. I turned around, thinking it was just a rowdy customer, but my heart sank as I saw a group of armed men flooding into the mall.
There were about five of them, all wearing black masks and carrying assault rifles. They moved swiftly and purposefully, fanning out across the mall as they began to take control of the area. My mind raced with fear and panic as I realized the gravity of the situation.
I was in a crowded mall, surrounded by innocent people, and now we were all being held hostage by a group of armed men. My thoughts turned to Jack, my bodyguard, who was waiting for me outside. I hoped he had seen the men entering the mall and was calling for backup.
But for now, I was on my own, trapped in a sea of terrified shoppers. I knew I had to keep a clear head and look for a way to escape. I quickly scanned my surroundings, taking in the layout of the mall and looking for any possible exit routes.
The armed men were moving quickly, rounding up shoppers and herding them towards the center of the mall. I knew I had to act fast if I wanted to avoid being caught. I spotted a small store to my left, its entrance partially hidden by a rack of clothes. Without hesitation, I made a dash for the store, hoping to find a safe hiding place.
My heart was pounding in my chest as I burst into the store, slamming the door shut behind me. I leaned against the door, listening as the armed men moved past, their footsteps echoing through the mall. I knew I couldn't stay here for long, but for now, it was the best place to hide. I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down, waiting for the right moment to make my next move.
