“Listen up, class! In the afternoon, we will be having an election for our campus officers, and they told me that it was a sudden election. We need to find someone willing to join, and help our school to keep the respectful rules and regulations.” The whispers filled the room. All of a sudden, someone raised its hand. “Teacher, can I nominate Miss Garcia?” In my perspective, she was from a group of mean girls in here. Girls with make-up on their faces. “Miss Garcia, can you stand up? So the students will recognize you,” the teacher said to the black-haired girl. “Sure.” She stood up, and guess what, her eyeshadows were thick, and her lips have red lipstick. “I'm Amara Garcia, nice to meet you all! I want to run to our incoming election as a president,” she stated. It seems like she's not going to maintain a peaceful, and quiet place. If you look at her, she doesn't have the credibility to lead this school to the top. She's just sugarcoating her words, so she will gain the trust of those students. I smirked because of my thoughts. “Teacher! I'm nominating Miss Santiago as the campus president at the elementary level!” someone's shouted. My jaw dropped a bit, and my eyes widened. I can't imagine that I'm going to be nominated in the school. “What? How can you say that Miss Santiago has the credibility to be the campus president at the elementary level? Do you think that I'm going to accept it?” “I'm not doubting her skills in leadership, and she's intelligent enough to handle the difficulties,” my classmates said without hesitation. “Did you know that Miss Santiago had a lot of school records regarding bullying? Are you aware of that, Miss Riego?” the teacher asked with an eyebrow arched. The girl who was interrogated by our teacher is the one and only Zoe Amethyst Riego, my childhood best friend. My heart is pounding, and I feel like my breath is going to be cut. “Miss Riego, be professional, nominate someone more deserving by this position, and I can't see the traits of a leader from Miss Santiago, I'm apologizing to you, and for my words earlier, but I'm still not going to agree to your decision.” I'm not sure about this, and this is not included in my plans. However, hearing those words from my teacher is making me feel useless, and I couldn't make some good things for my fellow students. Zoe walks towards me and sat beside me. “It's okay, I will talk to the dean, and I'm going to make it sure that you will have this position in this sch—” “You don't have to do this, it was not in my plans, and I'm not ready to carry it on my shoulders.” She suddenly stopped while her jaw dropped a bit. “B-But, I want you to be the leader of our level,” she whispered. “I don't like it, our teacher was right, someone is deserving than me,” I said in an airy voice. “Don't listen to them, you know yourself than they know you, I'm sure that you've got the good leader and smart thinker.” I remained silent. My heart is still pounding. All of a sudden, the bell rang, which means, our class was already done, and it's time to go home. I fix my things and clean my desk with tissues. “Girl, do you think, I will win this competition?” It's the girl who wants to be the president, the girl with thick eyeshadow and thick lipstick. I couldn't imagine that a 12 years old student can put on some make-up like a panda or a sleepless woman. “Yes, for sure, I won't let that Morgan ruin your plans, and I'm sure you will get the campus crush,” her friend said. They are gossiping, and it's all about the election. I don't know their real agenda, but it looks like they going to ruin the rules. I looked at the ground. I'm one of the rule-breakers. I bullied some innocent students. “Hey, let's go! We're going to answer our homework.” I nodded to Zoe, and we began to walk. After a few minutes of walking, we heard a small commotion. “What's that? Do you know what do they gossiping?” I arched my right eyebrow and looked at Zoe. I shrugged my shoulder, “I think you didn't know anything, let's go there.” We both agreed, and we stepped into the small commotion. “I thought, she's alright, I didn't know that she had suicidal thoughts.” “I felt sorry for her because she didn't survive.” My heart racing a mile in a minute. “Do you know, Sammy Santiago? I heard that it's her fault.” I stood there speechless. Someone holds my hand and pulled me out from that commotion. “Let's go, they will sue you,” she stated. She's gasping for air. We keep running until we reached the park. “I'm glad that they didn't follow us, that was close.” She sits at the bench beside the bushes. I'm still speechless, I can't find a word to say, because, in the first place, it's indeed my fault. They are suffering because of my selfishness. I sat beside her without saying a word. “Here, drink some water to avoid dehydration,” she stated. I refused it, so, she can drink it. “No thanks, drink it for your own sake.” She smiles at me, “I don't care if your words are hurting like a knife, and digging through our hearts like a bullet.” I looked away. I don't deserve her to be my best friend, because since we are kids, I treat her like my slave or my tail that follows me wherever I go. “Could you stop following me?” “H-Huh?” “I said, stop following me, I'm not happy.” Her eyes became weary, and it's because of my words. “No, I don't want.” “Why are you so stubborn? Do you still have a brain? Or you are not using it.” My temper is slowly losing, and I want to shut my mouth, but I can't. “Whatever you say, I won't leave you alone,” she said. She starts to drink her water, so I became silent.
