The thing about being a lover of books and you're in a place where lots and lots of it are around, can really make you smile.
Amy smiled. The book store really caught her eye as they walked. She's about to buy stuff for their field trip. She checked the place on social media last night— it's eco friendly. She wanted to enter the store a while ago because they have to finish buying the things they need.
Andrew was with her. No one among the two or them talked about it again. She also tried to ignore what happened. There are other things that need her attention, she prefers to focus on that. What happened between them passed like a mist—vanished into thin air.
“ Do you have something to check there?” She talked to Andrew who's checking the plastic bags.
“Where?” He was counting the snacks he bought before his eyes went to give her its attention.
Amy moved her head and pointed at the book store just across the street. “Bookstore.” Even in the way he uttered it, he was obviously happy. Her lip was quivering, trying not to give in to the smile that's been wanting to come out.
Andrew stared at it. “ I know you want to go there, so let's go.” He answered. It seems that he understands her. The way she invited him while she was suppressing her smile—in the inside, Amy wanted to go and check the books there.
They started to cross the pedestrian lane to get on the opposite side of the street. It's the only route they can take to reach the store. They can't just go straight, they will be hit by cars passing by. Can't do jay walking either. The two of them follow rules...
The bell rings when the door opens. She smiled when she saw the short-haired girl with purple dye on the tip of her strands. She's heading out. She was in a hurry, but she was clutching the books she bought as if her life depended on it. Andrew pulled the door handle for her to enter first.
Her eyes did a tour of scanning the place. Details. It's full of it. She took a breath and inhale the air — gawd the scent books made her heart go frenzy.
“I'll check the other side.” She started. The red book on the top shelf caught her eye, making her want to check the decks there first.
Andrew gave a nod. “And I'll be on the other corner.” He replied.
Amy smiled and advanced her way to where she wanted to go. Andrew did get the signal. He didn't need to explain. Her fingers drop on the book she was eyeing— red na red.
Bloody red. It had gold rimmings. The words that were calligraphed to its front cover were golden too. She stared at the girl on top of the title wearing a red garment which happens to be a kimono. The traditional dress for a Japanese. The story must be a tale from the ages. She checked the back of the book for more details about it.
She was right with the hunch she made. She was admiring the thing when her eyes went to the glass window. It was Dylan and he's with someone. The girl was explaining something as she was trying to make him understand what she was talking about through the use of her hand gestures. It seems that these two will also go to the place where he is standing now.
She didn't bring the book back on the shelf and instead she held it and took a step out to check Andrew. Amy saw Andrew frozen as he stood. His eyes were on them. He looked as if he was processing something. She's unable to come up with any word too as she stared at her best friend and switching to look at Dylan. She stared at the girl. She's always been such a beauty. Her and Dylan were blockmates. And she's always has a lot of romantic suitors lining up for her to take but she's still single. But she couldn't say the same thing now, that she and Dylan are together. There is no malice when two people are together that belong to the opposite gender. But—Sabrina's hand were holding Dylan's arm.
If the two of them were indeed dating each other. For sure, they are one of the power couple of their batch. Both excels on their class, still active in participating to the uni's activities, and both of them are in the student council. So for sure power couple of their batch—and for the whole school too.
She went to Andrew and she can't help but to smile when she saw holding a book on his hand. She gently tapped him in his shoulder. “Hey, you are stunned.”
Andrew stared at her. “It's nothing.”
She didn't buy his reason. “You're affected, Drew. That's why you're like that.” She knowingly uttered at him.
Andrew's eyes suddenly went cold at the words she mentioned. “I am not affected, Amy. You've been thinking wrong.” His eyes went down towards the book she was holding. Amy's eyes went to it too.
“Give it to me.” Andrew urged her for her to hand her the book.
Amy was confused. “Huh, why?”
Andrew's impatient look somehow threw her off. He looked annoyed. What's the problem with this.
“Just give it to me, Amy.” He was trying his best not to lose his cool.
Amy not wanting for him to grew even more impatient handed Andrew the book she had in hand. “And what are you going to do with that?” She asked him with a firm tone.
Andrew didn't answer and instead he turned his back. Amy's eyes darted on Andrew's back as he was walking towards the counter and lined up with the people who's paying too. The line is quite long.
Amy was trying to process what's happening when her eyes went big. Andrew is going to pay for the books!!!
He's paying for it.
Her eyes were just only focused on him. Her heart suddenly went erratically fast. The move is breaking the barrier she had set again. She was trying to guard her heart but it would suddenly beat fast again because of the same man again and the move he made—buying her the book.
She couldn't take her eyes off him, this is just pure bliss. Her heart is celebrating with joy. She will get the book that caught her eyes while the man that captured her mind and heart will be the one who will pay for it.
Suddenly someone tapped Amy on the shoulder causing her to turn to know the person who just touched her...
