CHAPTER 1: THE TRICKSTER PRINCE

The land is divided in three provinces: Statson, Dagras, and Ordinarius. Statson consists of the wealthy and progressive society; they have a lot of means to gather resources and facilities; in here resides the base of the well-known Major Crimes Unit (MCU): the agency who created the Major Alliance Revealing Vicious Elements Lurking Operations Under Surveillance (MARVELOUS) – a group of powerful beings who oversees the 3 provinces. Dagras consists of the middle class society who worships the gods and goddesses and believes that everything happens because of a benevolent cosmic plan. Ordinarius is the poorest among the provinces and the target of different organizations and entities because of their ordinary upbringings: they do not possess any powers to defend themselves. They are just ordinary citizens of the whole land.
Jean worked as a waitress in a bar at Headlong District in Statson where Leinth teleports to from Dagras. It's her first night there and she bumped into Leinth the exact moment he teleported. The drinks spilled accidentally to him. His gaze fixated in his soaked coat and he was very furious.
“Oh my gosh! I am so sorry! I didn’t mean to do that… I am sorry, I really am!” Jean was so nervous she didn’t know whether to wipe it or not.
"Bullocks,” he said, wiping his tux aggressively.
"I am really sorry, sir. Let me wipe it for you." And she tried to wipe it but he knocked her hand off.
"Do not touch it, slo--" he stopped halfway as he looked at Jean for the first time. He grinned. "Ohhhh... You are new here." He said, his mood entirely changed.
"I-I do. It's my first night, actually." Jean smiled shyly.
Jean was confused with his sudden change of mood. But she was grateful because she can’t afford to lose her job on her first day.
"I could use some company tonight, darling. That's of course if you'd like to." He smiled widely.
"I don't know. My boss--"
"Leinth! Having a good night, aren't we? Oh, you met my new waitress! Jean, meet Leinth. Just introduce yourself, Dagrasean. Jean, mind if you keep him company for the night?" her boss asked.
She nodded.
"Yeah, sure." She smiled. He did a thumbs up and left them both.
"Good. Now let's go back to pleasantries darling. I am Calu Leinth, Prince of Dagras, a direct descendant of the older gods.” He formally introduced himself.
Jean was surprised.
"O-oh my God..."
"I know, darling."
"I mean... You are literally a descendant of a god!" And realizing it made her become more anxious.
"If you act so anxious, might as well leave me alone." He said in an irritated voice.
"I-I am sorry. It's just that, You are a God and I-- sorry. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. Would you like some drink?" she asked when she noticed his sudden change of mood.
"Better." He said and Jean left him to grab some drinks.
She went to the bartender.
"Hi, Winston."
"Hey, Jean. You found some company, huh."
"Yeah. I do not know what he likes, so kindly give me his usual, please." She smiled at him and looked at Leinth.
He was just sitting there like a boss, looking around, until he met her gaze. He smirked. Jean smiled at him.
"Dagrasean Tricks-tail coming up." The bartender said
Jean looked at him and smiled.
"Thank you." She said and grabbed the drink.
She went back to Leinth.
"I got you your usual." She said and handed him the vodka.
"So tell me about yourself, darling...Or should I call you love? Love suits you better.” He smiled. “I introduced myself to you, so let's exchange the pleasantries love, shall we?" He said and sip a bit.
“You’re into endearment, huh. But why change darling into love? Darling sounds rather seductive meanwhile love is… love is plain and boring.” She sneered.
“Well, love suits you better. Not that you’re plain and boring. You’re lovely to look at. Let’s just stick to love.” He insisted.
"Fine. Well, my name is Jean Duque. I live in an apartment nearby and this is my first job. How’s that for plain and boring?" she snickered.
"You don't have a family..." He said more of a statement.
"I do. But my mom's not here. So I currently live alone."
"Oohhh... Mommy issues." He taunted.
She smiled.
"Not really. But she's a bit controlling so I have to move out."
"Oh, tell me." He rolled his eyes.
"I'm guessing you have issues too. What, daddy issues?"
"Never mind that. What should we do? Something that should be fun." He sipped and grinned.
"Well, what do you have in mind?" She asked.
"What do YOU have in mind." He insinuated and smiled mischievously.
She frowned, at the same time, smiled.
"That's exactly what I said."
"But that's not what your eyes are saying, love."
He pulled her in and in a blink of an eye they are both sitting in Jean’s bed at her apartment.
"How--" he stopped her by placing his index finger on her lips.
"What should we play now, love?" He asked.
Her eyes met. Leinth gazed at her lips.
"What are you thinking...?" She nervously asked.
He placed his hands: one on her jawline, and one on her neck, and he kissed her slowly. She returned the kiss and the next thing they know, something happened between them. Jean just gave up her innocence to a demigod. She woke up the next morning to find that Leinth is gone.
"God duties." She sighed and went straight to the bathroom.
Jean came out of the bathroom and went to the kitchen where she found a note on top of the table.
SAME PLACE, SAME TIME LOVE.
As soon as she read the note, it vanished from her hand. She can't help but smile. They met again at the bar, and as he promised, same time. This time, they just enjoyed each other's company. While they were talking, he’d play with her hair, or would caress her face.
"Before I worked here, how's your night going?" She asked.
He was playing with the strand of her hair that wasn't tied.
"Mostly boring. One shot. Chop chop."
"So, you never dated any waitresses here, or you never talk to them?"
"I don't settle for these arrogant slobs. These cretins." He said in disgust.
"Uhmm... Yeah. Like I am one of them..." she said, confused.
"Oh! But you are an exception, love." He said and caressed her cheek with the back of his hand.
"What makes me an exception?" She asked
"That is what I can't explain." He smiled at her.
"How are you friends with my boss, anyway?" She asked again.
"Let's just say, I did something in his favor."
She nodded.
"I am bored now. Let's go to your place."
In a blink of an eye, they are both in her bed again.
"Don't tell me we're doing--"
"I just want to rest in your bed is all." He said and laid there.
She stared at him.
"What? Are you just going to watch me?" He asked in disbelief.
Jean didn't move. He pulled her and let her lie down beside him. She looked at him but he's staring at the ceiling. He slowly closed his eyes.
She stared at him. He's fast asleep.
"What is your deal, Leinth? If I could just have a simple hint about you, maybe I could help you... You are a good demigod." She said and leaned on him and kissed him on the cheeks.
He moved to face her but he's still asleep. He wrapped his arms around her and she did the same.
Each night passes and it became her routine, with Leinth. One night, they both went to Jean’s apartment and while cuddling, she asked him a question she is very much curious about.
"What are we, trickster prince?" And she looked at him.
He looked down to gaze at her. He smiled and caressed her face with the back of his hand.
"What are we... What are we depends on you, love." He kissed her forehead.
She slid her hands and locked it with his. He looked at their clasped hands but he didn’t mind it.
"I think I've fallen in love with you... But who am I? I'm just an arrogant slob as you put it, and you are ---" he kissed her on the lips to stop her from talking.
He stopped and put his palms on her cheeks and met her gaze.
"If this is what love is like, looking forward to meet you every night, looking forward to seeing your lovely, beautiful face, looking forward to feel you in my arms, feeling the world cease to exist around us and the light shining upon me whenever I’m with you...  then I am in love... And I don't want to lose this feeling... I don't want to lose you." And he kissed her again.
She responded and he smiled.
And their relationship continues to be that way for a year. One night he just didn't appear at the same place and at the same time. She waited patiently until the morning comes and no Leinth on sight. Jean thought maybe he just have something to do so it's okay. He is a demigod and a prince after all so she understood. Until the next night comes. And then nights... And weeks... And it turned into a month. And months. And there was no Calu Leinth. No trickster demigod. No Prince of Dagras.
